Hi, I just love those watercolour quilts and would love to try and make one, bit scary I know but there is obviously a trick in doing it the easier way, I think :?

Would really appreciate your help on this one. :D

Hey Elle... check with Izy- I think I threw in some of the interfacing for her to play with in the first box. Maybe I just intended to, but check with her. Oh wait a minute.... she might have traded it for some hot kisses from a Spanish soap opera star.... yup.... nevermind... :D :D :D

Butterflyspain 05-30-2008 07:52 AM

I have the book Watercolor Landscape Quilts by Cathy Geier and she does a quick, no-fuss fold and sew technique. Might try looking at her work

I have a watercolor wallhanging I'm going to be starting. Had to wait for the quilt fuse before I could make it.
Got the quilt fuse, now I just need to find time with all the other WIPs I have going now.

Butterflyspain 05-30-2008 11:14 PM

Hi there, Am I right in thinking with this quick fuse you donīt have to do a button hole stitching or satin stitch around the blocks. it just kinda fuses the fabric together :?

Morning Terri, Is quilt fuse the same stuff as what Cathy sent over to me, a fusible webbing which Cathy showed me how to place all the pieces on, fuse then stitch by folding over on the seams???

tlrnhi 05-30-2008 11:58 PM

I'm thinking it's the same.
You put your squares on it, iron it down, then fold and stitch.
You can read about it here

Thanks Terri, that site is great!! I was reading your other thread, have a great time with the kids!! :D

tlrnhi 05-31-2008 12:09 AM

Is that like the same stuff you got?

Oh, I intend to. I miss them sooo much!

I think so, seems the same technique was Cathy showed to me... :D

You sorted out the sleeping arrangements for all the family yet instead of gassing to us lot eh?????????

Butterflyspain 05-31-2008 03:47 AM

Oh wow Terri that sounds great stuff. Have got an idea for a middle section to start of my next quilt idea. Well it could be the 200th one buzzing around in my brain, but will have a dabble first with this amazing fusing.

Thanks for your help. :D

Elle

tlrnhi 05-31-2008 04:01 AM

Not a problem!
Once I finish up the ones I have going, I'm going to TRY the one I have.
Will most likely do a "test" first so I can make sure I kinda know what I'm doing.

Cathy M 05-31-2008 04:44 AM

Terri you are sooo funny.... I am telling you... this fusing stuff is just like making rice krispie treats. You're going to have to lie to your family on how hard it is.

Elle....You do realised how SMALL your pieces are gonna be...
Make sure you adjust your stitch length, oh and you might have to find a really small foot and wear those extra strong glasses I saw you admiring in the charity shop.........I just cut your 6" square to bring on Tuesday...it will have to be a 'micro watercolour' may I suggest a dolls quilt..TEE HEE

Butterflyspain 05-31-2008 07:45 AM

Izy, just realised how small these squares are gonna a be. Also will need elastoplast for my MOUTH. (In case of swear words)   . Does look special though WHEN its finished.

Elle :D :D

tlrnhi 05-31-2008 08:11 AM

Yes, the pieces are small. 2 inch squares! UGH!
That's the reason for using the quilt fuse!

Izy 05-31-2008 09:24 AM

Terri, you really were tired when you read through these comments...I was winding Elle up telling her I was only gonna let her have a 6" piece of the fusible stuff. so she would have to use super small pieces to make a quilt don't you see???....I don't wanna share - gonna throw me doll out of me pram as we say over here lol!!!!

Butterflyspain 05-31-2008 12:00 PM

Hi there Cathy M, Oh yeh, pull the other one... :-) nothing is that easy, bet I get in one big mess, already thinking Phew bit off more than I can chew, :(
to be continued.... :? Elle

Butterflyspain 05-31-2008 12:02 PM

Oh calm yersel am only kidding you on...you know I can't stand vomit....I promise to bring a big piece on Tuesday for you

DA Mayer 05-31-2008 12:15 PM

thank heavens you are going to share or else I would have had to come over there and straighten you out. Let me know how it goes I haven't had the nerve to dig in yet. I have a specific picture in mind to try to replicate and so I will be on my own creative devices, am going to try the fuse and stitch method.

Joking aside DA - The watercolor quilting is spectacular, but you have to have a massive selection of fabrics to get the right affect...I suppose each square is like the pixel on a digital image.....If we could blow an image up extra large, we could all make a massive one using fat quarters lol!!!!!!!!!!

DA Mayer 05-31-2008 12:37 PM

I have been stashing just for that purpose. I even carried my picture to get the shades right. I do like the idea of fat quarters- they would have to display it in a big hall so people would have to stand way back to get the effect we want. I'll bring my stash you bring yours and we'll meet in an ocean liner halfway.

Now your talking....I have had a quick search on the net and found this free pattern...seems a more simple way of piecing all the pieces together. I have put it into pdf format for easy downloading :D

Butterflyspain 06-01-2008 07:28 AM

Yep and with my eyes, probably need fat quarters  (thats my eyes after sewing it) . Well I can only try and when you bring me that big piece you promised  I am going to stick it on the wall and go from there placing squares on it till I get some sort of a design. Thought I would try a heart or something simple, I love that one that has been done in the Round Robin its super.

Butterflyspain 06-01-2008 10:33 AM

Not to worry, I love anything artistic, its all a learning curve for me.
Thanks. By the way Loretta, have you ever had a look at Nancy A Pearson Quilting and applique. Its fab book, but tried it and it is really difficult though.

Been to the beach today and traced out my next kiddies quilt, this one is for our 4 year old (going on 18). Also want to try watercolour quilting, I have 2 UFOīs at the moment, seems to be a hazzard of quilting.

Cathy M 06-01-2008 11:06 AM

Elle- don't worry about having so many projects to do at once... it somehow guarantees you will live a very long life to get them all done. I'm pretty sure I'm going to live to be 758 years old at this rate.

Butterflyspain 06-01-2008 11:45 AM

Cathy M, already decided I am not going....simple as that.

I got into this quilting just last September and I am really addicted, canīt believe it and I just canīt get enough. There are so many things you can do so many styles. LOVE IT :D :D

Butterflyspain 06-01-2008 11:58 AM

I am on my 2nd book of patterns that I have taken out of magazines or copied. What are we like  Suppose it keeps us out of mischief

In actual fact, I believe the more you keep your mind occupied the better your brain functions. Emmm what was I saying, whatīs my name :-o
Weell thats the way its supposed to work :D

This is where the Quilt Fuse stuff comes in handy.
You just arrange the squares where you want them, press, then turn it over and sew!

Morning Terri, you are up bright an early!!

The quilt fuse that you use had a grid pattern on it....do you butt the edges of the squares upto the line?...if so how can you use this as a sewing guide as that would surely be the edge so do you stitch 1/4" in from that line?????? :?

tlrnhi 06-01-2008 01:54 PM

according to the directions, you turn it over and sew the 1/4 inch.

I'm always up early. Have to get up with Courtney at 5:30am YUCK!
