I think Jan's method of making the star points makes much more sense than the pattern instructions. Much easier her way! Thanks Jan!!

It's always interesting to see the original pattern. After going to the Houston quilt show and several in Oregon, Washington, Texas, & Arizona, I have so many kits that I don't think I will ever get them done. So many quilting projects, not enough time in my lifetime. Thank goodness, I have a daughter and a granddaughter that are searching through my gi-normous stash every time they come to see what they think they can use. Kits that I am no longer interested in are being passed down every time they come. Isn't it crazy how our tastes in fabrics and patterns change as we progress as quilters? |
Thanks to everyone for you help. Jan, you are always so willing to share your skills on this board. It is appreciated. I have always loved this block and think it is ideal for showing of pretty fabric. But, I going back to my original question. Does this block have a name? It should :-)

I search thru my older Blockbase program and was surprised it wasn't there.

I don't know it's name, but, by coincidence, I have made it this week as the center of a medallion quilt that I am working on.

Yes, thanks Barb for that pattern location. It looks like a great block. I was just thinking I should make a star block for the "blocks in space" program that I saw recently on the Quilt Show program. This would work!

I don't know the name but it is pretty/

Notice that those star points aren't just HALF-square triangles, but are actually (what I call) TRI-square triangles - there are 3 triangles in the one square.
These are easily made by topping an HST with a plain square, drawing your diagonal line across the already sewn diagonal, and sew on each side of the drawn line as you do the HST. When you open, press and trim, you have that tri-square triangle. Jan in VA And in the directions for "Fresh Flowers", it took a long time to understand the "bud". It's hard to see in a picture; I think I need a hands on instructor. LOL |
