Does this block have a name

I would like to know the name of this block so I could Google it and find out how to make it. I have tried sawtooth, morning star and every other kind of star I can think of. Thanks so much for your help.

I don't know what the name is, but I drew it in EQ7 as an 8 inch block. Maybe this will help you.

Is it a carpenter's star or carpenter's wheel?

It's the centre part of Christmas Star.
The full one has another layer of points similar to what is on that one.

I first made it from an Eleanor Burns book.
You can also find it at QuiltersCache.com

Thank you, Barb and QuiltE. I think I can figure it out using half square triangles.

It's a free pattern on the Moda website called Fresh Flowers Table Runner and Pillow. Type Fresh Flowers in the Search Box

I think I used the same block in a quilt. I couldn't find a name for it either. I think the closest I found was morning star and carpenter's wheel. But it's not exactly like either of those.

Notice that those star points aren't just HALF-square triangles, but are actually (what I call) TRI-square triangles - there are 3 triangles in the one square.

These are easily made by topping an HST with a plain square, drawing your diagonal line across the already sewn diagonal, and sew on each side of the drawn line as you do the HST. When you open, press and trim, you have that tri-square triangle.

It's always interesting to see the original pattern.
