First let me say i'am upset, all my own fault. I live in a two story house and my sewing rooms' are all up stairs. I can't have over night guest cause I've taken down all the beds (more room for fabric). So now I'am out of room again. A sane person would realize that four bed rooms was enuf for storage and a few sewing machines ,right. Well I've spent all day trying to find more room up there, Then it hit me , the dinning room down stairs. well I thought if I start slow , with maybe one machine my hb wouldn' t notice. He never notices anything else, so I slip carefully down with my fw . He' reading so I know he won't pay any attention, I get almost to the table when he says "rum out of room". darn . now what? No I won't let any of my dear friends out of the house.... Thanks for being here just needed tovent. Back I go up stairs.

Did you say "sewing rooms"? with an "s"... LOL :)

Colorful Quilter 01-03-2011 03:17 PM

I hear you....I have a 14x24 craft building UP on the hill, and where do I do most of my sewing???? the Dining room !!

PaperPrincess 01-03-2011 03:37 PM

My Husband has finally accepted the fact that my 2 story 'sewing room' is actually a fabric storage area. I sew in my dining room. My main dining room table is 17 feet long (I also have 2 8' tables in there, yes, it's a big room). The upside is we keep entertaining so I have to clean up periodically.

cjomomma 01-03-2011 03:43 PM

I don't even have 1 room, I have a corner in my livingroom and your whinning about running out of space!!!! I dream of the day I have your problem. LOL!!

Sadiemae 01-03-2011 05:35 PM

I would like to have your problem...

charmpacksplus 01-03-2011 06:09 PM

Thank goodness I don't have an upstairs! I have fabric in three rooms as it is and UFOs spread out on the spare bed in another room. But none of them are sewing rooms... I sit at the dining room table for that.

Patty Patches 01-03-2011 06:50 PM

I WISH I had that problem.I have no room, sew in the corner of the livingroom or on the kitchen table

tmg 01-03-2011 07:04 PM

I have a corner in my bedroom for fabric. A corner in the kitchen to sew at. A server in daughters room a sewing machine in the bathroom and 3 more sewing machines in the shed.

Do I really want to know why there is a machine in your bathroom?

Hey,, when you only have a few minutes at a time....just sayin!! LOL

purple_butterfly 01-03-2011 11:14 PM

Four rooms!!

Bubblegum0077 01-03-2011 11:19 PM

Wishing I could have the rooms you have been blessed with. Today I sewed in the dining room as usual, stopped to make the kids breakfast and lunch (since I didn't have to walk far) went back to sewing then washed dishes. I have no space for anything and my rolly cart gets pushed into my closet when not in use. My iron board is between the table and counter in which if I turn the wrong way I will get burned. I keep praying for a larger house, but I don't have an answer yet. OK, I've aired off, but seriously I hope you are making good use of going up, as in taller bookcases, for your fabrics.

I like the idea of donating stuff, then you wouldn't feel guilty about buying more!

JSNOMORE 01-04-2011 04:18 AM

I also have four rooms upstairs and a bath that are all mine. My DH calls it the sewing suite. Don't know what I'll do if we ever downsize.

Becky Crafts 01-04-2011 04:32 AM

I sew on a tray table that stops traffic-flow & fabrics are surrounding my recliner base & in a tub in DH Bike Barn. If he ever works on the bike again to get it running, I'll be tossed out of there. I'm living on borrowed time... LOL

raptureready 01-04-2011 05:25 AM

Our house has almost 2000 square feet on each floor. The basement is a laundry room, dh's RC room my art room and full. The first floor is where we live plus sew in the winter and it's full. The second floor is my actual sewing room---full but I also have a couple of beds for when we have guests. No closet space available, no dresser space available, no space available. The attic is the same size but it's my dh's domain as is the 2 1/2 car garage. He stays out of my upstairs and I stay out of his spaces. I promised myself that I wouldn't buy any fabric this year but I bought about 3 yds NYsDay.

LindaMRB 01-04-2011 05:54 AM

I don't have a sewing room and can't image that much fabric.
Most of mine is in the attic and I have to go searching (or shopping) when I want to start a new project. My goal is to use it up before I die, so I only buy what I need.
My office is where the sewing machine is as well as the TV and the sofa. So sometimes I am asked to stop sewing during the movie (the family can't hear the actors).
But I switch from working to sewing when there is time while waiting for a file to download or for software to open.
I multi-task a lot. :)

I hear ya sista, my husband wanted to move my sewing stuff to a smaller bedroom(guest room) I'm trying to explain I can't go smaller, need to go larger! I need more room!

websydhan 01-04-2011 06:50 AM

For years I was using our dinning table for sewing and cutting. One day I cleared everything out and set the table for a really nice dinner, my husband looks at me and looks at the table and says "Its been so long since I seen our table I forgot we had one" lol

WOW am I a newbie! Floors and bedroomS S for sewing??? I bought myself a brand new embroidary Janome LAST Christmas (09)! and I've used it twice! Its sitting behind the living rm couch! I'm trying to get a guest bedrm fixed up to put it in there, but it will still be a bedrm. My fabrics are hung on hangers in 1 closet, in footlockers all over and in the attic! lol! SO is a chemical engineer and he likes everything in place!

quiltmom04 01-04-2011 07:35 AM

When I feel like I'm taking over with fabric, I watch a couple episodes of "Hoarders" and it scares me enough to donate some stuff!

Sew and Sew 2 01-04-2011 08:37 AM

You need to open a fabric shop, sew 24 - 7, or have a sale.

I have one small closet in our family room and my sewing table is a card table, so count your blessings. My husband is in and out all day so I'm usually alone with my classical music, so that keeps me calm about it all. That much fabric would frustrate me, because I don't have enough life left to use what I have already.

bonnielass 01-04-2011 10:39 AM

My children recently moved out. However,my sewing room is yet to be organized so I still sew on the diningroom table and hope to get the sewing room by the end of spring.

PatinAtlanta 01-04-2011 11:50 AM

I think it is a matter of the amount of space you have does not matter -- you will fill it regardless of how small or large it is!! I have found this to be true with every place I have lived!!

I like the comment about "Missing him" -- good answer!!

Pat

Quilters are wired to reason like that, when it comes to sewing rooms. Our motto should be"If if can hold fabric then that should be the purpose of the room, most of the time".

Okay girl - time to step back a moment. If you have 4 bedrooms full of quilting stuff, and need more space, get organized. Use up what you have. Are you a materialholic? I knew a woman who stacked hundreds of yards of material in her closets. Couldn't go into a material store. You really need to do something and soon!!

mhansen6 01-04-2011 01:08 PM

Sounds like you could open a quilting store.
