Double Irish Chain, opinions please
2 Attachment(s)
I am posting two sample blocks for feedback, please. They are not sewn, just stuck up on the design wall, so we can decide which way to go here. Thanks!

Here is a picture of my roomates's double Irish chain in progress. She likes design 2. I like design 1. #1 is probably going to win because it's MY quilt! The colors did not come out well. It's green and orange, the colors of the Irish flag. The white background is tone-on-tone shamrocks.

I think I like the first one better. I like them both, but I think the first one with the flowered blocks on the corners gives it a more "open" look and draws the eye toward the white block with the center flower.
Either way it's going to be very pretty! |
I like the first one; it gives the floral center a little more support.
Like the 1st one
I like the Irish Chain look...#2
I like the first one.
I too like the first one. But either way it will be very pretty.
I like them both (LOVE this pattern) but really like #2 best
I really had to look at them both a lot -- then I looked at them thru my camera lens -- the # 1 seems to flow better with only one dark piece to follow
Mim |
The 2nd one is more visually appealing to me
I prefer the first one.
I like them both and it will be difficult to imagine what they will look like, (for me) but I'd probably go with nr. 1 even though i tend to like the darker on the outside and make the inside chain lighter.
But I think in this case, I'd go with the darker on the inside. But, either will be beautiful. When you only look at one block, it doesn't make a statement, but as a whole, it will be wonderful! |
I like the first one the best.
I like the 2nd one better, the flowers in the corner of #1 seem to be lost to me
I really like the solid corners better than the floral corners.
I'm taking a break from piecing a double Irish chain at the moment to check the board. Cheers, K |
I like them both but I would have to say #2.
I like number 1 better.

Well, for a female, I'd pick #1 for the open airy look, but for a guy I'd pick #2 for it's more solid robust look. For me, I'd pick a Triple Irish Chain and add another row of the leaves to #2. :)
I like the second one

The #2 layout has more contrast because the flowered blocks are kept away from the solid looking white blocks. When the flowered blocks are beside the white, they get a little lost, imo.
I love the fabric that you chose. |
Number 2 has my vote
I like # @ It seems to flow better to me. The most important opinion is yours! Make it how you like it! It's going to be lovely how ever you make it.
I like #2 better, but I really like the shamrock one!
#1! Pretty!
My vote is for 2
I like #1 best....will be pretty with quilting showing up in the white area.
i like them both but first one i like the best
Annie68,
Amazing quilts. The tulips are my favorite, but I'm obviously a sucker over flowers, especially appliqued ones. |
I had to look at both pics as well, but decided that I do like the first with the floral corners better. I am sure what ever you will decide will be beautiful.

Wow, thanks for the response, everyone! This quilt has an interesting history already. I bought this gorgeous blue floral border print in Ohio in July with it's corresponding dark blue geo print. I decided to do this pattern with it after seeing my roomate's DIC, but it was going to take 9 yards! I had 4. Called the shop. They didn't have any more. Found 3 yards online but after that, including the ISO thread on this forum, there simply was no more fabric available. I was going to have to find another pattern. Then on an amazing Tues the Ohio shop called me. Another clerk had found my note near the phone in the office and remembered the fabric. She found 4 yards of it!!! Wooo Hooo! That same night my best friend called to tell me she passed her board exam to be an LPN. We're both in our 50's! This is her quilt. It was even before she called, but that just made it special. I think I'll stick to #1, my first choice because overall it's softer and more feminine. Using the dark as the second chain will put too much emphasis on it and darken the quilt.
Thanks again for all the input. I'll post the picture about this time next year ;) |
I really like them both, but #2 is my favorite. It has a "cleaner" look with more simple lines that I prefer.
I'm going with #1.....looks less congested! Nice fabric choices.
Ilike the 1st one... will be very pretty when finished
i like #1 the best, although both are nice
IMHO #1 looks more contemporary and #2 looks more like a traditional Irish Chain.
I like #2 as the flower center pops out more :) :) :) |
#2 will be easier to quilt a design into!
