I ran across this on Ebay and had to quetsion it. You know if it looks to good to be true...

http://cgi.ebay.com/Electric-Quilt-7...item4aac9aa69a

Has anyone else seen this or have any comments? How could anyone sell this so cheap?

PrettyCurious 07-07-2011 10:50 AM

It's probably a [illegal] copy. To be clear, ask them if it comes in the orginal box. I bet not.
Their FB is zero, so it's probably a throwawy ID that they'll dump as soon as the complaints start pouring in about the illegal copies. Only 1 outa 10 will actually complain, so they'll probably sell about 50 before getting kicked off.

amma 07-07-2011 10:50 AM

I have reservations about this too... it is approx $100 less than anywhere else...

Buyer beware :D:D:D

PrettyCurious 07-07-2011 10:52 AM

eBay will protect you. Go ahead. Just use yer charge card - in case.

elainecooper 07-07-2011 11:11 AM

I've sent them an email asking about the original box. If you read the description, it doesn't say that it comes in the box. Just that it's new and comes with printable instructions. The seller name was just created on the 4th so I'm sure you're right about it being a dummy name. I'll keep you posted on what happens!

That conflicts with the other shipping info that indicates it's commin from Canada. Also another red flag that usually means it's a copy.

but yet they use Canada post on the shipping estimate hmmmm

Realize that the seller is from London, United Kingdom, England.

Ask the seller questions such as if it is one that can be used in the U.S. Some software just like anything else is not compatible from one country to another.

Ask if it is a U.S. licensed product in the box from the company itself or if it is a copy.

Ask them why they can offer it for such a low price when it retails in the U.S. for $189.

Ask them if they are an authorized retailer for EQ.

Ask them for references since they are new on eBay.

elainecooper 07-07-2011 11:31 AM

Not only do they say they are located in London and shipping from Canada but in the description they talk about celebrating the Country's Independance Day with friends and family and would not be shipping until after the 5th. This has signs of trouble all over it! But I did ask them all the above questions so we'll see.

In searching it out some they have 100 of this item for sale, have sold 7 since July 5th and auction is for 5 days.

What one can do is to buy it so you can than pull sellers contact info and attempt to make contact by phone or at least check to see what country they are registered under.

They have this long tirade about offering books, fibers, arts and more yet this EQ is the only item listed.

My having been on ebay since they opened there doors in 1995 (almost 16 years) this has enough red flags for us to be cautious.

If enough folks made the purchase and than pulled sellers contact info they could file with eBay almost immediately stating why they are unwilling to pay for it which will immediatelys end an ALERT flag to eBay to investigate and if found legit follow through with paying for the item.

It's such a little amount and even though I have EQ7 and my wanting to keep eBay safe I'm seriously considering making the purchase to pull sellers user info and check them out. If found legit than give it away to a friend for Christmas or there birthday or just because.

At least that way we'd know if they are legit.

If I'm not mistaken both Canada and U.S. recognize Independence day or recognition is made by Canada. We have many borders in the U.S. within reach of Canada and U.S. and some of us are from Canada originally with our grandparents and/or parents having transplanted to the U.S. I'm second generation U.S. and grew up about 18 miles from the Canadian border in Maine.

They may be legit but there also are enough red flags to warrant there being checked out.

Or if one does not want to go through all of the above mentioned one can click "report item" to the right of the auction and ask ebay to check it out.

janb 07-07-2011 12:12 PM

oh, do be careful...sounds too good to be true and probably is.

Exactly!

partsalot 07-07-2011 01:26 PM

How about paypal - wouldn't that protect you? I know how good and how expensive this item is because I purchased it for my son last Christmas.

PrettyCurious 07-07-2011 01:27 PM

Good Lord, don't buy just to pull their contact info! Ya'll know they are not legit, right? Yer gonna get a copy, but all ya hafta do is file Item Not As Described, and ebay will give you your money back. eBay limits new accounts to 1k per month, and does not release the funds to the seller until you leave feedback. Trust me, you are totally covered, if you want to just see if it's real or not.

Nope. Paypal discontinued their protection plan for ebay items, and eBay has picked it up. You are covered.

meemersmom 07-07-2011 01:32 PM

I have been looking for a copy to try EQ again (my first time was a disaster). This listing is just a little too hinky for my liking. I reported it to eBay. I had about 7 or 8 red flags pop up in my head while reading this listing.

Thanks for the warning!

BellaBoo 07-07-2011 01:48 PM

EQ7 has to be downloaded from EQ Website to your computer. If the serial number or other info where to download the program is not legit you won't be able to download the program. It could be trial demo cd not sold in the US. ?

ladyshuffler 07-07-2011 01:52 PM

First of all I always look at the feedback before I purchase anything on Ebay. Did you notice "0" feedback.....she probably doesn't have a clue what to sell it for in the first place.

susanwilley 07-07-2011 02:02 PM

Sent them an email asking if orignal, software, book and box. And, how in the world can they sell it for 27.36 when the "REAL" thing sells for almost 200.00.
I'll let you know if I get a response.

It doesn't have to be downloaded from EQ but it does have to be activated via the web (and probably the website). My copy of EQ is on a cd, not downloaded.

No it doesn't! I bought the program in a box from a retailer in TN couple months ago. Got it for $138 v. $198.

I popped the DVD in my drive and installed it and registered it at the site.

ccrow99 07-07-2011 03:59 PM

Oh this is scary....I wouldn't use anything but PayPal. Wouldn't want these creeps getting my credit card info. Good luck with this. I paid a whole lot more than that for EQ7!!!!

collady 07-07-2011 04:07 PM

Ebay has removed it.

elainecooper 07-07-2011 07:23 PM

Well, not only did they not respond to my email but they have pulled the product completely. It's like it they never existed!! But thanks so much to everyone that responded!

auntpiggylpn 07-07-2011 07:39 PM

I didn't see the original because it was pulled before I started reading this thread. I was tipped off last nite about Eleanor Burns site , "Quiltinaday.com" had EQ 7 discounted. I went to the website and purchased it for $132.96. It is over $50 off!!! I just looked, they still have some left, I don't know how long the sale will be. . .

nellie 07-07-2011 07:44 PM

it,s been removed

jaciqltznok 07-07-2011 07:47 PM

that listing has been pulled from ebay...it was a FAKE...

NEVER buy an American product like software from a dealer overseas...they do NOT have to honor our copyright laws, so they can Bootleg/Pirate software and it takes years to prosecute, if ever....

That's because I hit the "report" button at eBay. I've been on ebay for 16 years and they usually pay attention to such things if they can't validate who the seller is.

I expected no less from eBay if they could not get the seller to validate who they said they were.

I had sent an email to seller as well and never got a response.

PS Stitcher 07-07-2011 08:02 PM

I had this on watch and sent a question. I never received an answer and now I see that they pulled the listing. It is no longer there.

rivka 07-07-2011 08:48 PM

Good to see that Ebay is still working to protect buyers!

uniquelynancy 07-08-2011 02:50 AM

I have the E7 and I haven't been able to get it to work. It's more trouble than it's worth IMHO

mmb195152 07-08-2011 03:29 AM

Interesting! I went to the ebay site, and the item has either been removed (my guess), or no longer available.

Great heads up to all of us. Thanks to you and for all the other responders for their suggestions.
