Greetings, any of you use the EQ6 ? Do you reccommend the product, user friendly? Thanks!!
I have EQ and it's the only quilt design program you'll need. It is for beginners to advanced designers. I haven't used all the features in it and I've had every version.
I like mine when I take the time to use it. It was a gift from the kids.
I know most people love it, but I just keep going back to the old pencil and paper method. I guess I'm just not very computer literate??? I don't know, but I never can seem to get it to do what I want. I think I need a class. tee hee
If you use the computer in your job frequently or everyday life you should have no problem. I did a few lessons and got the hang of it and went from there.
Personally I love the program because I am math challenged (this coming from a person who is a payroll manager). I like the fact that I can play with my design, color, and layout before I even purchase one yard of fabric or cut one piece. It has opened a whole new world of quilting that I thought I could never be part of. |
One huge thing I LOVE about it - is changing block sizes and all the templates, or rotary cutting measurements are automatically fixed..
you choose your block size and then your block - and can change both however you like... you can play with colors and fabrics, it computes yardage, you can add borders or remove them, put in sashing, take it out.... and that's just the simple stuff LOL but I do have to mention my 'pet peeve'... the 4 installation limit and the having to have internet access to install... |
Since I bought mine 3 years ago, there hasn't been a week (or days) that has gone by that I don't use it for something :D:D:D I would hate to be without it!!!
Just bought mine today!!! Can't wait to get it!!! I got a new machine and now EQ6. Can't wait to get started!! :-D :-D
The only other draw back that I can think of - if you haven't done some quilting and piecing you may have a hard time putting the blocks together because the program does not give you instructions on how to assemble them.
I have EQ5, I am saving to update but it is so expensive,I have to wait. but I still use mine, and I have DJ, Dear Hannah, broad base, and others downloaded to it . So I really use mine. Jolo
Can't wait to upgrade to EQ6 from Quilt Wizard...Love Quilt Wizard, but want the additional features of EQ6, especially being able to scan in your own fabric, as much of what I have is vintage stuff and not available currently in stores so not in the QW files.
I had purchased the Jenny Haskins cheaper product but did not like it. I ended up buying EQ6.
I LOVE it - if you decide to purchase it . . . Go here. Trust me call them - they had it cheaper than anywhere else - you will not regret it. http://jhittlesewing.funoverload.com...ls/page_1.html |
I have it, but have not taken the time to learn how to use it. I think I'll spend some time with it since I have heard so much good about it.
I have not figured out how to use it. I have EQ5 and got frustrated.

I got myself the EQ for Christmas... I do enjoy it but haven't really had the time to play. I did tey and take the Quilt University online class - I got through lesson 1 and life got in the way so I printed out the lessons to do while we're camping this summer. It's too hard to take along my sewing machine but we always take our laptops - DH is a big computer junkie - so I will have quilting time while camping!

I grabbed the Folk Art Blocks off the website the other day - 10.97 "while supplies last" - it came to a little over $16 with shipping - it got here last night (hey our UPS man never shows up until dark)... anyway, it was WELL worth the $$ - 200 patterns!

Oh my goodness, the upgrade to EQ6 is so worth the money. I couldn't believe how cool the features were to use.
You would be even happier to get the supplemental tutorial, EQ6 Simplified, so good for teaching how to use the special features. |
I got it last year and love it. I am slowly learning how it works. Not that it's hard, just very time consuming.
I did do one thing as soon as I got it. I took the manual down to an office supply store (Office Max, but others probably have the same service) and for less than $7 I had the binding cut off and had plastic spiral rings attached, along with a nice clear plastic cover. This way, the manual will lay flat and I can fold back the pages to the one I want. Some of the illustrations in the book go practically to the edge of the paper and I was concerned that some of them would be cut off, but they weren't. BTW, the manual has pictures of almost every step you need to do, whatever task you are doing. It also states in the manual that if you have EQ5, you can buy an upgrade of EQ6. I assume the manual comes with the upgrade. |
I got mine directly from Electric Quilt, I get all my EQ stuff from them.
Yeah, I finally figured out where they were from and the ones that I wanted were all gone. I was able though to get the Baltimore one from 4my3boys though. So atleast I'll have that one.

Thanks JJs, I will go check it out. I bought mine just over a week ago @20% off, purchased the simplified book at the same time also 20% off. I received yesterday the Block Book, I ordered Saturday also at 20% off.
I have only had time to go through lesson one, but know I will love the program. I have wanted it for the last 6 months, sold a quilt so I used some of that $ to order. YEH |
I upgraded to EQ 6 and have not taken the time to learn it. However, after reading all your positive comments I am going to make time.
I don't have it but sure wish I did. Penny
I use mine everyday!!! And, now I'm adding things to it. I don't know what I would do without it! I can browse patterns, make my own, print out paper-piecing or rotary cutting sizes, print quilting designs- everything! I wouldn't be a quilter without it!
I looked through all those pages but I couldn't find it. I have been considering it but have hesitated because I'm very computer illit.

I have EQ6 and I love it.. My DH gave it to me for a Christmas gift, along with a book called "EQ6 Simplified". Being a new grandma, and busy with an elderly parent as well didn't give me time to really learn it, or so I thought. Earlier this year I needed to design a quilt that I'm making for a Navy Reunion raffle. I got on there and it all fell into place.. it's a wonderful program.. I am using mine all the time now! It just takes awhile because the program has so much to offer. I still use the old graf paper and pencil method to figure out a block, but then transfer my pencil musing to the program and let it do all the math and figuring of yardages. Keep at it, and don't get discouraged. It does all the figuring for you!
Happy EQing, Judie |

I bought EQ6 from EQ(signed up for it before it came out.) I took a class at a LQS and spent some time with it at home. I just don't have the time or inclination to use it. I have all I can do to quilt never mind DESIGN. I'm thinking of selling it--I will have to check with the EQ site because I think they have rules about that.
Hello everyone! Just spoke today to one of the ladies at EQ, and there is a newer version coming out in a month. I myself was looking to buy the EQ6 and was told I might want to wait a month until the newer version comes out. I have enjoyed using the quilt wizard, but want something more advanced. I'm not sure as to how much the newer version will cost, but it will probably be in the same price range as EQ6.
I have a EG5 that is still in the box and I have never ever opened it. Why? I dont know. I just retired yesterday so I will get brave and download it one of these days. If you have the EQ5 what are the advantages of the EQ6....thanks
Does the eq 6 also for example if you find a block pattern that is a 6 inch block and you want to make it a 12 inch block can it calculate how to make the block bigger?
Yes EQ6 will calculate the block sized up or down, and calculate the differences in your yardage as well. If you want to get a inexpensive program to play with the Electric quilt Company's Quilt Wizard is a good place to start. You can size up and down blocks in the quilt wizard too. The difference is you don't have the freedom todraw in your own designs, make quilt labels, have about 5000 different fabrics loaded into the program.
So I can get directions on resizing blocks and not just designing quilts? Did you say there are also quilt labels? Its called qlectric quilt wizard? How much is it approximately..I am not too interested in designing right now too busy with getting my long arm business going.
Thanks for info, |
To resize a block in EQ, you go to Print and it will ask you if you want to print a picture of the block, rotary cutting measurements, templates or foundation (paper-piecing). After you select one, a box opens and you go to Options. In options, type in the size of block you want and select Print. You can choose any size of block you want, from just over 0" to as large as you want, a bed size block or even larger if you want. It figures out your measurements and how much yardage it will take of each fabric. You can even make your block in an odd number, by using a decimal (such as .375 or .625 or whatever you want). I don't have to figure out how much to enlarge a block for a swap or a quilt. I just look through the Quilt Block Library and type in the size. You can change any block before you print the directions, if you don't like the way it looks! You don't have to design quilts, even though they make it easy! It's a great quilt encyclopedia and you can add blocks to it, if you find a block you like in a book, so you can remember it or change the size. It also makes it easy to see what your block or quilt will look like in a different color or fabric.
I have a question about EQ6. I have a quilt I'm working on and would like to import a picture of it to play with it. Can this be done?
