Is this possible in EQ5?
 

I am in a time crunch, finishing a project for our Pastor. I need to make a template for these swirls...I have EQ5, but I only know how to do the basics. Is it possible to draw these on EQ and print them? Any other ideas??

I have EQ8 and I don't know what 5 is and isn't capable of, But honestly I wouldn't do templates. Depending on how big these swirls are, I'd probably do bias stems.

Another option might be to use yarn and a couching foot, but Peckish's suggestion of bias stems would look neater.

EQ8 (Electric Quilt 8) is quilt design software. You posted your question in an EQ-dedicated thread, which is why we all thought you have the software.

On point simply means the squares are turned so they're on point, or diagonal, instead of sitting on a flat edge.

The southwest design in the rug is probably not the best design for a beginner to start with. I'm a very experienced quilter and it would take me at least a month to piece that quilt, and that does not include quilting it. Since you're in a hurry, you'd be better off starting with just simple squares of fabric in those neutral colors, or maybe even some pretty prints, arranged in the on-point setting you like. Piecing those triangles and connected squares (on the bias) would be a huge challenge to a new quilter who is in a hurry. It makes me very sad when newbies pick a design that is beyond their skill level and then, in frustration, give up on the hobby altogether.

If I have a 6 1/2" block and I put it into the EQ8 software, is there a way to change it into a 12 1/2" block that will give me all the measurements for the pieces?

I am doing a mystery quilt that is all 6 1/2" blocks, but I'd like to intersperse some 12 1/2" blocks in, too.

yes, your drawn block of any size can be put into a block of any other size... your cutting measurements could end up very strange, though. Is your block really 6.5", or is that the unfinished size? A 6" finished to a 12" finished is the ideal resize in my estimation. You do not need to redraw the block... just change your layout block size to the larger size, choose the block and go to print your cutting sizes. HTH

QuiltmNan is correct - if your block finishes at 6.5 you may get some funky measurements at 12" - don't forget you can always print the templates

On the print pop up for rotary cutting there is a choice for "Finished Size" where you can choose either size from worktable or custom size. If you are doing paper piecing, the size choice is on the "options" tab in the print pop up.

The finished size would be 6" and 12".

Still trying to decide whether to get the EQ8 or not.

I too suggest to go for it if you can swing it. I use mine all the time and love to play with blocks and coloring. Besides there are lots of folks here to help if you get stuck on something ;) !!
