Ever Had One Of Those Days!!

Have you ever had one of those days when EVERYTHING you try to do goes wrong!

I'm working on a Christmas gift for a friend that's made from paper pieced blocks. What could be easier? Well.....my iron has something really yucky on it so cleaned it with a little water and baking soda. Seemed to be alright except on one place toward the back of the iron. This block has white in it so what do I do? Yep! Use the whole iron and get this nasty mark all over the white fabric again. Tear the block apart and replace the piece. Then I did the same thing again!!! Tear it out again and the piece I used was too small so had to rip it out again. When I was doing that I tore the piece next to it so now I have to rip out two pieces. Got the first of the two pieces sewn into place and instead of cutting to the 1/4" seam, with the new piece folded back, I had it forward and cut the piece off. Oh my gosh!!! Get ready to sew the piece, once again, and break the needle on my machine. While changing out the needle I smelled something burning. One of the handles of my brand new Karen Kay Buckley scissors was against the iron and had melted. So now I have something else on my iron and a melted section on my scissors. This 6"x8" block has taken me over an hour to make.

Whine, whine, sniffle, sniffle, pout, pout...poor, poor pitiful me. Do I dare start another one day???

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 11-30-2011 02:38 PM

Wow! You really did have a bad day.

jmabby 11-30-2011 02:43 PM

Several days ago I had a similar incident. I made a 10 minute block that took 3 hours before I could understand how to make it.

amyjo 11-30-2011 02:45 PM

better quit for today and read the board posts to lift your spirits.

sewmary 11-30-2011 02:47 PM

I can't help but laugh but know it's laughing with you -"man that has happened to me too!"

KerryK 11-30-2011 03:09 PM

I'm thinking you should have stopped somewhere in the middle of this episode, gone back to bed, gotten up again, and started over! :)

quiltsRfun 11-30-2011 03:12 PM

That's about when I'd call it a day.

Dina 11-30-2011 03:23 PM

Yup, call it a day, find some chocolate, read a good book, drink some wine....do something different. Tomorrow will be a better day!!

lillybeck 11-30-2011 03:34 PM

Been there and done that.

LivelyLady 11-30-2011 04:25 PM

Been there, done that. Time to put your feet up, pour a glass of wine, light a couple of candles, and put some soothing music on (-:

Mariposa 11-30-2011 04:27 PM

Some days you're the bird, some days you're the statue! ;)

Nanaquilts44 11-30-2011 04:51 PM

Sorry to hear about that. Reminds me of one day when my daughter was a little girl. I cleaned and waxed (back in the waxing of linoleum days) my kitchen floor. Then I curled and dried my hair and it was looking great. We made a quick trip to get a few things from the grocery store. I had a bag of blueberries on my kitchen counter. It split open and I started to pick them up but stepped on a couple. Put some water in a bowl to clean it up, slipped on another one and fell on the kitchen floor with the bowl of water in my hand. The water went all over my hair and the waxed floor was floor was now a mess. I looked over at my daughter and half cried and half laughed.

quiltsillysandi 11-30-2011 04:58 PM

Yep, been there, done that, and sadly, more than once......Some days it gets so bad I just have to tell myself "back away from the sewing room, back away from the sewing room".....and this too shall pass....:)

jojosnana 11-30-2011 05:01 PM

I guess we have all had a day kind of like that. But I am sitting here feeling your frustration. Put it away, and start again tomorrow....

Tartan 11-30-2011 05:01 PM

Been there, done that. Well, not exactly but it was a plastic bag to close to my iron. What a mess! I did a very intricate Valentine heart paper pieced block. I got it all done and realized a small but critical piece was the wrong colour. Don't call the Quilt Police but I cut out the piece with wonder under on it and ironed it over the spot. I quilted the edge done later and told myself it was now raw edge applique. Nothing is as accurate as PP but when it's wrong, it's very wrong!

I am so sorry... I think I would have walked away halfway through your ordeal. Tomorrow will be a brand new day - and hopefully free of oopses!

unclefreckles 11-30-2011 05:58 PM

Boy do I understand. Think it is time to do something else for a bit

Alex J 11-30-2011 06:14 PM

Well as my father -in-law would say go to bed, tomorrow will be better. As the song goes
The Sun will come out tomorrow...
It will be a better day

LindaM49 11-30-2011 06:19 PM

I probably would have pitched the iron and went out and bought a new one...LOL.

Tomorrow will be better...I guarantee it. Yesterday was the worst possible day for me...today was fantastic.

Mickey1 11-30-2011 08:30 PM

Might have been a bad day but it made a hilarious story! Thanks!

CoyoteQuilts 12-01-2011 06:09 AM

Just want to send {{{{{HUGS}}}}} your way....

KimS 12-01-2011 08:13 AM

So after the day I had, I called to see if my grandson could spend the night with me and bought a new iron so that problem is solved. Waking up to his precious face made everything all better. Sounds like we all have "those day" and the ones shared made me laugh. The chocolate was a wonderful idea so made some homemade No Bake Cookies that are loaded with cocoa and sugar. Yippee!!! If I'd only stopped and gotten that bottle of wine..........

raptureready 12-01-2011 08:19 AM

CHOCOLATE-----and HURRY!!!

cinson7 12-01-2011 08:23 AM

Sorry to hear about your bad day I had one a while back I waited a day or two when I went back I finished my quilt, With no problems. Good Luck

timepasser 12-01-2011 08:25 AM

I got anxious just reading your post. I have had those kind of days. Walk no RUN away from it for an hour or so, things will improve when you come back.

Wagoza 12-01-2011 08:31 AM

My friend Trish and I were doing the same thing last week. First I had sewn a block on backwards, then she would sew a block on backwards. In the process of ripping the piece out I ripped a little too much and repalced two blocks. A sipmle block took an hour to repair. Trish then had bobbin issues and ruined a needle in the process.
I finally put it all down and made lunch.

crafterrn1 12-01-2011 08:38 AM

Oh my what a day! I would have stopped long before you did. I have learned sometimes it is better to step away from a project, do something else. Then start fresh. I hope you are having a better day today!

Opal Jane 12-01-2011 08:41 AM

I think I would stay away from your sewing room for a while!!!!

RDM 12-01-2011 08:43 AM

I've had those days and sometimes figured it was time to stop, go to something else and come back to it another day. My frustration would just get worse and so would my capabilities. My heart goes out to you, but don't give up. A new day, new energy and you'll make it all come out beautiful.

Quiltngolfer 12-01-2011 08:43 AM

I hear you! Today I discovered that my sewing machine oil spilled onto my sewing machine instruction manual, new spool of thread, and several other items. What a mess! It was all my fault for not putting my oil back away after I used it. I got to spend a good hour cleaning before I could sew.

Eliebelle 12-01-2011 09:36 AM

I have had many, many days like yours and I find that chocolate helps.....

clapperj 12-01-2011 10:18 AM

I thought only my mother and I did that! I feel for you. :)

susie-susie-susie 12-01-2011 05:05 PM

It sounds like you have a chocolate emergency. We have all had days like that, but you made it sound funny. We are not laughing AT you but WITH you. Better days are coming--they can't be much worse.
Sue

KarenR 12-01-2011 05:12 PM

I think you need of cup of tea and put away the sewing for today.

SherryW 12-01-2011 05:41 PM

Yep, things happen. Tomorrow will be a better day.

Happy Tails 12-02-2011 03:46 AM

WOW you definitely need a (((((((((((((((((((((((HUG)))))))))))))))))))))))) )

gramarraine 12-02-2011 06:43 AM

Time to quit for the day. Sometimes things just go so bad that you have to quit and start over tomorrow. I had a day like that a few years ago when I was sewing some bridesmaid dresses for a friend. I messed up one so bad I had to replace the whole front of the dress because my iron was too hot and burned it. I call them the bridesmaid dresses from h--l. Don't do that kind of sewing any more.

jaciqltznok 12-02-2011 07:25 AM

wow..I have SOOOOO been there...I normally shut everything off, walk out of the door, grab an old movie, then go back , rethread my machine, pop in the movie ,and start the day over!

Kathy Osterby 12-02-2011 07:45 AM

Yep. I was making a XMAS Sunbonnet Sue and wasn't really in the mood so after ripping out the blanket stitch on 1 section 2x I finally decided it wasn't worth destroying the whole project. I got smart and gave up for the day. Still haven't finished it-too many other XMas things to get done. There's always next year for Sue.

polly13 12-02-2011 08:39 AM

Yup!-----just yesterday. Making the simplest Christmas project, but had to repeatedly rip!!!
