I made this lovely quilt with 7 blocks on point and lavender flowers in eac. After much thought I decided on the binding and then took the quilt top down off the design wall, nicely folded it, and laid it down thinking "I will just put it here!"

OK - two days later - now I can't find it. So, I am sharing my woe with the only people I know will sympathize with me! The quilt board members. I loved making those appliques in the blocks - lovely flowers made with batiks shaded with purples and lavenders.

So, after about 6 times going thru every shelf and drawer in my sewing room, and looking in lots of other places outside the room, I gave up and turned it over to God. He will put it in my sight!

So, I am waiting...........!! Patiently.......

Did you lay it down and it got covered by something? I did that once and forgot what it looked like and hunted for days and it was right where I left it. Looking for wrong colors. sign of old age?

MoanaWahine 10-08-2011 03:44 PM

I have not done that with a quilt top, but did that same thing with a pattern to the quilt that I already started. And a long ruler for cutting WOFs. The pattern showed up a day or two later, but still have not found the ruler. Luckily, I had another. Your top will show up when you least expect it. ;)

Quilter Lois 10-08-2011 03:44 PM

I have turned everything over ten times it seems, and inside and outside, too. Thanks for ideas

DebraK 10-08-2011 03:47 PM

everything else except a quilt top.

MaryAnnMc 10-08-2011 03:48 PM

Get someone else to look, they'll find it in two minutes or less! Somehow we get "blinded" and just cant' see what's right in front of us.

Sadiemae 10-08-2011 03:50 PM

Do fish swim?lol I don't lose things, I just misplace them in "safe" places. Hope it appears soon.

Murphy 10-08-2011 03:50 PM

Wrapped with another top!! Under the batting!! Under the backing fabric!! It will reappear (smile).

ckcowl 10-08-2011 04:07 PM

yup- seems to be the story of my life!
i've lost as many completed quilts- will have some one come to see one- geesh- can not find it- or birthday comes along---and now- i can not find the quilt i made for the occassion-
it's a terrible thing...but sooner or later they always show back up ;)

zipit 10-08-2011 04:08 PM

It is probably next to the roll of painters tape that I had in my hand this afternoon.

I did find a quilt top that was lost months and months ago during the search.

LindaM49 10-08-2011 04:20 PM

Too new at quilting to do that but......I lost a pair of brand new purple flip flops in our bedroom. Still had the tag holding both together. I bought 2 pair at Pier 1 last summer and decided to wear the white ones. This summer I got a new swim suit and wanted to wear the purple. No where to be found. I have looked for them all summer...under furniture, in the closet, even in drawers and they are NOWHERE to be found.

My mother lived with us for 5 years before she passed away and so many strange things have happened here since then. I hope she has been enjoying wearing my purple flip flops. LOL

That is so very true. Same with proof reading a letter or a post....you can look at a typo forever and not see it. Hand it to someone else and bingo! they see it right away.

DogHouseMom 10-08-2011 04:32 PM

Did you do laundry, perhaps put the laundry on top of the quilt top and now the quilt top is is in one of your dresser drawers?

IrelandDragonQuilting 10-08-2011 04:43 PM

Hmm have kids? I have one son who if he finds a quilt I am working on he likes, he just takes it, done or not LOL, so I have to now tell him if I am working on a specific quilt for smoeone else so he won't rob that one!

BrendaK 10-08-2011 04:43 PM

It probably had a secret meeting with one of my June Tailor rulers that I had been using now can't find. Wouldn't doubt if they each are wearing a purple flip flop wrapped up in painters tape. Hopefully they all will come home soon. BrendaK

nativetexan 10-08-2011 04:58 PM

maybe it's hiding with my bedroom shoes!! I lost them yesterday or the day before!

Barb44 10-08-2011 05:29 PM

They are all with my 18" ruler I bought at Tuesday Morning and used once before it disappeared. Must not have liked it here. More fun with the purple flip flops. We all know flip flops are party animals. :)

KathyAire 10-08-2011 06:26 PM

I spend half of my time looking for things. It makes me nuts.

amandasgramma 10-08-2011 06:27 PM

Oh, honey, do I EVER know what you're talking about. I used my tape measure the other day -- the cloth kind. Then looked ALL over for it for 2 hours. Finally found it....wound up and hanging on a spindal!!!! Right where it's SUPPOSED to be!!!!!!

Debbie C 10-08-2011 06:32 PM

ROTFLMBO!!! Lordy is this ever familiar!! So glad I'm not the only one who spends hours looking for stuff I just had in my hands!

Is it where you went to look at the binding colour? Did you fold it wrong side out? If so look for the backing colour not the lavender. I've lost things in my sewing room too and it isn't very big. It's so frustrating because you know it has to be in there. See this as a chance to reorganize the room because you know you won't be happy until you find it. Good luck on your hunt!

Cybrarian 10-08-2011 06:39 PM

Did you fold it up with the backing fabric or batting maybe? Could you have decided something else after laying it down so it is in a container of some type "for safe keeping"?

That is so funny, but I think you are right

TrenbeathRanch 10-08-2011 07:10 PM

Did you happen to find yourself in a room and wonder "why did I come in here?", only to turn around and leave when you can't think of the answer? If so, perhaps that room is where you left the quilt! If it were me, I would probably check the linen closet...

Monroe 10-08-2011 07:44 PM

That's called "Living in the Hereafter" as in What was I in Here After?

Digitizingqueen 10-08-2011 07:53 PM

I lost a quilt block in a class with one other person we searched for like 20 min and low and behold it was on the design wall - I send good wish in finding your wayward quilt Top! :-)

chelgvns 10-08-2011 09:17 PM

If it helps...it will be in the last place you look! :)

TheSevenYearStitch 10-08-2011 09:29 PM

My mother lost 3 or 4 quilt tops all at once. Called the police and told them my Dad's ex-wife probably took them. (This would have involved driving 300 miles across state lines to take a few 9-patch quilt tops?!?!) Filled out a report. She found them hanging in the closet where she left them a few months later.

Keep looking and don't get carried away.

Quilter Lois 10-08-2011 09:34 PM

probably - sneaky !!!!!

Willa 10-08-2011 10:04 PM

I tend to put things in "safe" places - I find them at the oddest times.

sewbeadit 10-08-2011 11:27 PM

I forget things quite often, sometimes I will remember where I put them in a dream as I sleep, so weird but true. Sometimes I never find it again.

ccrow99 10-09-2011 01:30 AM

So I guess we all have a portal to the same black hole of missing things!! How can something disappear right before your eyes??

judi43 10-09-2011 03:11 AM

I feel for you, I to have lost things in two days, found then folded with other material in my stash closet.
Good Luck on your mission.

rob529 10-09-2011 03:33 AM

I'm hunting for a small square ruler right now. I can't imagine what I did with it. Please let us know where you find it. Is it folded up inside your sashing fabric?

Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most... have someone else look with you. I find that if something isn't where I expect it to be, I can look right at it and not see it - extremely frustrating!

MaureenR 10-09-2011 03:53 AM

yes this past week I could not locate my hand pieced hexagon quilt that needed to have borders added. I though it was in my UFO box but could not find it. searched my house tidied my sewing room and decided after 4 days to give up looking. this morning I decided to check my UFO box again (about the 5th time)and there it was caught up with another larger quilt I am working on - (always have more than one on the go at a time) so tunnel vision on my part or the quilt went on holiday without me and returned today lol

LindaM49 10-09-2011 04:03 AM

LOL...I love the comments about my flip flops. One thing though...I didn't buy them at Pier 1...it was Old Navy.

Something else that STILL has me baffled. My son and his girlfriend bought me a breast cancer awareness watch for Christmas (handmade). I planned to wear it when we were going out to dinner with friends. Put it on the bureau in our bedroom and went to take a shower and get ready. Friends arrived and before we left I said...forgot my new watch upstairs. It was NOT on the bureau. Looked everywhere...my hubby and friends looked everywhere downstairs as I searched our bedroom high and low. Gave up...went to dinner...came home and thought I will turn this house upside down to find this watch. Still couldn't find it. Time to go to bed. My mother's old bedroom is where I crash and watch TV at night. Walk in the room and pull back the covers and there beside my pillow is the watch. Now...HOW in the world did it get in there since I was NOT in that room after I put the watch on my bureau. As I said before...my mother is being sneaky...lol.

Scrappy Gram 10-09-2011 04:16 AM

"Look under your bed" - this is what I told my two sons for years when I heard, "Mom, I can't find my...........". Most of the time that's where they found it......!

LOL Too funny! Guess your mom liked the watch. My best friend passed away 11 years ago. She always loved to put those little plastic hearts or angels that you get to sprinkle on tables for decoration in birthday cards, so they would spill out when you open them. Every now and then I find one, in the back of my truck, on the counter in the kitchen, in a box. I know she is just saying hi.

And yes I have had stuff taken by gremlins, only to be returned at a later time....cuz I sure didn't forget where I put it!

Jackie Spencer 10-09-2011 04:19 AM

L do that all the time. Almost always it is under something, or I have put it somewhere safe, where I know I wont forget it. LoL I have done that with Christmas presents bought earlier in the year, comes time to wrap them, they are no where to be found. Please let us know when and where you find it. Good Luck
