That is such a cute video! Had to call DH in to watch-just so I could say "I'm not that bad!" (YET!) I can't stop buying either! My moratorium on buying didn't last long-have probably bought 60-80 yards (mostly in 1-2 yard cuts) since the beginning of December when I started making purses. Now, I am hooked on making them and can't stop buying fabric! It was easier when trying to visualize quilts, but every fabric I see now, I see a purse/bag in it!! Looks like I am going to have a de-stash sale soon!
I really have to stop acquiring fabric. In fact, last weekend I met someone who has a friend who is looking for someone who would like her quilting stash and supplies. I told him that I have more than enough fabric as it is. What was I thinking???
It's a disease alright. It's contagious but not fatal. I'll never live long enough to go through my entire stash. Told hubby if I should kick off, he needs to divide my fabric between my two closest friends and anything left, e-bay it because it is worth some $$.
You are not alone. We probably all have more than we will use in our lifetime! I'm sewing as fast as I can!
My theory is....we are hunters and gatherers....isn't that what this is all about? If there is a space to fill, we need to fill it....it makes wonderful insulation in our homes and in our hearts.
I have the same disease. This year I am going to try to stick to spending gift money on fabric. I made my birthday money(Sept.) last until Christmas. Hopefully Christmas money will last until Mother's Day, then birthday again. Of course I still spend money on books, batting, and other quilting supplies. Lol. Kids and husband all know to give me gift cards and money for fabric stores. I'm easy to buy for.
Welcome to the club. After I buy it, sometimes it is hard to decide what to use it for - "It's too pretty for this or that"! LOL
Well, when you see a "light" with the sweetest design in a peach color, I think 2 yards is needed. That way, when I need a "light" with a little design in a peach tone I will have it at my fingertips and won't have to go out shopping! I want to have lots of fabrics I love on hand (about 50 copier paper boxes full and a couple of dressers full in the bedrooms of the children that have moved out.) Everytime I walk into the store with a coupon I come out with another cut for my collection. Fabric is not my problem; storage, that's my problem!
That video is the funniest thing. I'm not there yet but...... I said that I wasn't going to buy any fabric this year. Like all resolutions, it is broken. It is an addiction and I throughly enjoy it. I'm not drinking or gambling like a lot of people in this county.
Yep, I understand totally! So addicting! I put myself on a budget for all the good it is doing me! We will see how long I last on budget! Ha! It is all fun though, I am trying to focus on my projects I started.
I really, really meant to behave, but I just couldn't pass up this awesome bargain. I just placed my third order (this time for approx 24 yards) with Cuddle-Bugs. My first two orders yielded some wonderful, quality fabrics. Cuddle-bugs is going out of business and selling their cotton fabrics for .... an amazing $2.00 per yard. Everything I received is top quality, name brands with a lovely, almost silky hand.
So toss caution to the wind as you will never find this price again. http://www.cuddle-bugs.com/fabric-collections.php</SPAN> I don't have a problem...just a harmless addiction.</SPAN> |
I love the video it looks vaguely familiar I hate to admit. The yarn and fabric are pushing me out. I'm not buying yarn anymore I have enough to last until who know when. Now the other addiction Fabric I'm trying to reorganize but I find more and more and I am going to visit my son in Ga this weekend and they have a quilt store right there in Warner Robins it can't be far from there and I know my DIL said there is a big Joanne's and I have the name of a few others and have gift cards to WalMart so I'm very afraid. I can't wait to get there. I guess I'll first hug & kiss my son and DIL and the her & I will be out shopping. Do they have a FabricHolics in Ga. or Fl. even tho I probably wouldn't go. Does anyone else get as excited as me about a new quilt shop? I feel like a kid going to Disney. We should enjoy every moment we're healthy enough to be able to buy the fabric and sew the fabric into lovely things. Enjoy. Sue

I wish. LOL . I have UFOs stacked here and there and fabric that I purchased forever ago still setting in the shopping bag. I too would be a great canidate for fabrics anonymous.
This is a problem????? We are just fabric collectors.

I am also one of the group. lol
I hope they never find a cure!!! |
I'm the same way. I have so many projects going and then I see a pattern for one I just have to make. Then it's off to find fabric. Darn the luck. ;) HAHAHA!!! It's like this wonderful high when you find just the right fabric. Hubby will see me working on something and ask when did I get that fabric? I tell him it's something I've had laying around and decided to put it to use. Like he believes that. LOL!!

you are a official member!
Congradulations! You are a member of the club. You might as well go with it. There's no way out.

Board members, for me it is not the fabric that is addicting, it is all of the patterns that I can't get enough of. I go home nearly every day with another new idea for a quilt because I saw something on this message board I just want to try. I have more plans and patterns than I can possibly ever accomplish. I still work full time and just don't have much beyond week-ends to quilt and the frustration is rising. It is only January and I am already looking forward to summer when I will have a three day work week allowing me to quilt two extra days per week! Yippee. By the way, this month I spent less than $2.00 on fabric. I bought a quarter yard of a sale item for a doll quilt. Brag, Brag, Brag but it is only the 20th. Tee-Hee
Oh yes, you're the ONLY ONE on this Board with that problem :-)
I really LOVE fabric and color...so I can't resist and it is a sort of therapy. My FIL was a fabric expert and her really rubbed off on me. He used to come and play with my fabric with me. He is missed! He knew all of the mills and I got a lot of great samples from him.
You are not alone!!! Try psych-ing yourself out! Quit calling "fabric" fabric! Start calling it "Thread" like I do. When my DH ask me where I am going, I tell him I am going to get "Thread"!!! Now I am addicted to Thread which cost less!!!! Ha! Ha!

You are absolutely right, Hilary! We are all suffering from a form of this disease. GOOD FOR US!

It is so bad and then my friends don't help. I have two friends who buy an enormous amount of fabric and then lose interest. Of course, I take it. LOL My goal is to use all of my stash before buying anymore. It is hard but a couple of really scrappy 9 patch are already in the works.
OMG, this is too funny! There was a fabric store here in town that closed down and I went in and purchased 750 bolts of fabric....LOL......my husband about killed me....LOL. I am still laughing about that one. I make charity quilts and donate fabric to the ladies aux at the hospital to make baby quilts and I hoard the rest....LOL. My personal stash. I went the to fabric store the other day and wrote a check for almost $300 in new fabric, and had to explain to my husband that it was new fabric....LOL. I don't think he was too impressed!!! Oh well!!!
I think most quilters are fabriholics (LOL). Welcome to the "stash" club. And Cabbagepatch - loved the u-tube!

hello my name is bobbie jo & i AM a fabricholic! Im Ready to admit it....... i have been sorting thru my fabric trying to organize in a different room. I was previously in denial even looking at my receipts & KNOWING a 100$ a pop was easy & the fabric stores called my name on a weekly basis......They STILL do call my name & when i think, hmmm PERHAPS, the remembering the mess i STILL have of the fabric quickly flashes thru my mind.....i will say, i CERTAINLY UNDERSTAND....... But its sooooooooooo much FUN & Pretty & all the cool things i could make....... Blessings =0)

I thought that's what this Forum is for! You mean its not???? LOL
Unfortunately, my addiction has spread to beads lately and I will soon begin marketing locally some lampwork bead scissor and key fobs. (Hopefully, they will sell because I've spent way to much this month myself!) |
Please, what is a UFO?

THERE IS NO PROBLEM.... I figure if I can't buy Renoirs, I can at least buy fabric......I enjoy my indulgence.
This addiction can also pass from/to another generation!
