Fabric is wonderful, you don't have to feed it, take it to a vet. This addiction is more acceptable than gambling, or drugs, or, drinking. Fabric colors make you feel good, planning the next projects keeps your mind active, and if armageddeon comes, you will never go naked.

I recently started organizing my fabric. Wrapping them around comic book boards etc. I swore that I was going to use what I have before buying more.
Then I started on Bonnie Hunters Orca Bay Mystery quilt. I was determined to use my stash for the 4 color families that the pattern uses. And I did start that way - honestly. Then after I started the first step I decided that I didn't have enough variety in my neutrals (mostly tone on tone) or my oranges - mostly batiks. I ended up buying 20 more 1/2 - 1 yard pieces (5 or 6 neutrals and the rest oranges). Hehe. In addition I decided I needed a couple more purples too. My total for "NOT BUYING" fabric was about $80. Guess I need a scrap quilt pattern that just needs lights, mediums and darks - not color family related. Oh well, that is my excuse and I am sticking with it. |
Someone once called it cheap therapy, since a therapist is usually a couple of hundred per hour. Enjoy your stash.
When I see all the beautiful quilts on this board I think thank goodness for your stashes.
I know I spend too much money on fabric and sewing stuff. This month I have already been so bad...now the brakes are on fabric buying for now....at least for today, tomorrow, etc.
I've often suggested to quilting friends we start a group, but I just can't figure out why no one will ever join!!! Hee hee

Welcome to the club honey. Fabric and quilting go hand in hand for becoming a quilt addict, and so far I haven't found a cure. To tell the truth, I'm not sure that I want to be cured. I'm trying to finish up UFO's and have started, however, my DS told me that while DDIL had asked me to make a quilt for their bed, DS wants me to make a twin size quilt for our wonderful granddaughter. Now how can I refuse that. Anything for Zoe. I think the best thing about Quilter's Anonymous is that there are no dues, no Board of Directors, no secretary to record the minutes of the meetings, no minutes, no rules of any kind and you can share all your creations at Show and Tell. Plus you get to meet a lot of great quilters who are happy to share what they know. It doesn't get any better than that.

Welcome to my world, I got 10 boxes of fabric 2 weeks ago and bought more fabric today from a lady going out of business. I got such a great deal I just couldn't pass it up. hubby said I didn't have any more room for any more fabric (silly man, he didn't want the you tube video). I have so many ufo's I should name my sewing room the "Galaxy":D
Love the youtube......................only it's too real.
Wow, there are a bunch of us on this board, huh? But we are all in good company.
Thanks for the youtube link. Love it but don't know if I really want DH watching it. I did an amazing thing last week--I made two baby quilts totally from my stash!! Since I live in the boonies and the nearest (crappy) fabric store is 10 miles away, the nearest (decent) fabric stores are 25 and 40 miles away, I feel that online shopping really is easier. Unfortunately (OR NOT!!) I have a DH that works in the US and is happy (well, resigned) to be my orderer and my fabric Mule. He hauled about $75 worth of fabric home last week and then watched me ogle and fondle it all for an hour. But I have NEVER complained about the woodworking tools or wood that he buys. I think he understands me.
A friend came into my sewing room the other day, and after looking around asked me if I sell fabric. NOOOOOO, I replied this is all mine, I am not greedy, I'm just materialistic.

That is such a cute video! Had to call DH in to watch-just so I could say "I'm not that bad!" (YET!) I can't stop buying either! My moratorium on buying didn't last long-have probably bought 60-80 yards (mostly in 1-2 yard cuts) since the beginning of December when I started making purses. Now, I am hooked on making them and can't stop buying fabric! It was easier when trying to visualize quilts, but every fabric I see now, I see a purse/bag in it!! Looks like I am going to have a de-stash sale soon!

Sounds normal to me!!!!!

It's just so exciting to find another design we like, and kind of boring completing an old project, even tho it is very satisfying to finish something. I've been trying to restrain myself from starting that chair cover we saw last week, but I keep searching for fabric I'd love for it. Can't help myself. We are weak!
LOL the you tube video is so funny( and maybe so true for alot of us on this board)
Still laughing!!!! Thanks

My DH bought me a small trailer to have in the backyard for all my material. I can't hardly get in it. Does anyone go to Marshalls Drygoods in Batesville, AR. It's several hours away and when I get to go I buy plenty.

Everyone on the board is the same way. It's a way of life for me.
Actually I spend way to much time in thrift stores finding some great deals. I just took a good look at my sewing room and thought, "I really need to do some spring cleaning." But then I have a UFO monster living in there and he gets bigger and scarier every time I do not finish another project. Actually I think he is dating one of the dust bunnies. lol

I was at my LQS yesterday and as I was paying for (yes, more) fabric, I said to the salesperson " I hate to come here, I always see new fabrics and projects and I have so many things I'm working on at home". She said "Its worse working here - we work for fabric".:o
I found out early in my marriage, my husband's toys were a lot more expensive than my fabric. Happy sewing!!!
My name is Paulette. and I am a fabricaholic.
Went to Road to California today, didn't buy any new fabric, but bought a pattern for the cutest cup aprons (hoping to use some stash), also saw several patterns that I have to make which means more fabric...
I have the "disease" also. I have to keep my stash in my bedroom as we don't have an extra room for quilting. And it's beginning to look like a "hoarder's" room. Almost have to have a path through all the storage bins for fabric...LOL
I have it too. My problem is when fabric is on sale, especially 50% off and more. We had a Fabric Shop go out of business, and now one of my fabric shops is have for the month of January 50% off of everything. That is what gets me in trouble. But I never pay full price for fabric. And I have from 20 to 30 UFO's.
It is better then drinking and on drugs. Also cheaper the having to see a head doctor.
Oh my gosh!!! I start looking at patterns, fabrics - and I want to go crazy!!! I find my self wanting to go in so many different directions at once! Right now I am staying away from the fabric. Gotta do it. Want a new sewing machine. Have more fabric than I realize sitting in my closet. Want to learn new techniques, time to loosen up and go scrappy!!! Going to take a paper piecing class, this will slow me down some. And yet, I keep browsing online. Bookmarking pages (my daughter shakes her head when she sees the number of pages I have bookmarked!). Keep printing out patterns. E gads!!!!! Sometimes I ascribe to the "this is therapy" thought. Other times I think - you seriously need therapy, get a grip!!! :D
Ah Dawn the old this is therapy vs you need therapy dilemma. For me it depends on how recently I have blown money on fabric I don't need.
Par for the Day: I am with you, I don't buy fabric unless it is on sale, but with the internet you can almost always find something on sale. Right now I am holding the line at $5 a yard, so that limits me a little. It is still amazing how much fabric you can find for under that price. |
I'm trying to "train" my husband well. I just played the YouTube Video about hiding your stash, and he thought it was pretty funny. However, it doesn't stop him from asking "What project is that for?" when I come home with more fabric. Of course, it was just more fabric that I either absolutely fell in love with and had to have, or knew would go well with other fabric for a future project on my bucket list, or was that final piece for a project I was was working on, or something. Do you really need a reason to buy fabric? He's learning! At least he has a sense of humor about it!
Yes, I believe we all have had this problem at some time. I too must stop buying and get some things finished so I refuse to go to another quilt store until I finish at least three of my UFOs.
