What makes it hard is everyone wants you to make them a quilt but when you tell them the cost they cringe. You try & explain that the quilt is made of good quality quilt fabric which is expensive. They would rather go & buy a premade manufactured quilt from Walmart! Go figure!
Needless to say they have no idea the hours in labor it takes to make a great quilt! Not only has fabric gone up but so have thread & notions! My embrodery hoop was $75. Most of the foot attachments for my machine are priced over $25 it adds up! I use to make alot of my clothes but with the cost of fabric its almost not worth it anymore! Gotta love 2nd hand stores, church sales, garage sales, etc! |

I honestly came home thinking that I should just quit quilting and sell off everything because I just can't afford it anymore . I am not good at making quilts from clothes etc. |
My LQS sells $21-$26 per metre but I can always go to the next city, an hour's drive away, and pay $34 - $75.

and to add to it, my Joann's store use to let you use more than 1 coupon a day. Now they don't even let you make seperate purchases one after the other using a coupon on each. The gal told me one coupon per patron a day! Whats the difference if I got ten ppl to buy things using coupons or I stood through 10 transactions? Go figure!

I am lucky. Gaffney Fabrics in Philadelphia has a fair selection of TT batiks all at 4.99yd and an even better selection of cotton prints all at 3.99yd. I think they are all discontinued/closeouts/whatever styles, but still first quality. It's pretty much the only place I shop.

There are reasons cotton prices are going up..read
http://bworldonline.com/content.php?...lters&id=35860 What I don't understand is why I can buy 5 pack of Fiscar 45 mm rotary blades for 15.99 at Walmart and the SAME pack of blades cost 25.99 at Joann. |
For great prices,I never pass up a yard sale. One sale out of Ten will have new fabric, most of it was part of a relative's estate. I have picked up some fabrics from the 40's and 50's. As a scrap lover, I find a lot to choose.

The prices went so high from the problems with the last
cotton season, however no problems this season and the price of cotton is down. Do you think what we pay will become lower? |
