When visiting in WA twice a year I get my fabric fix at Fabric Depot in Portland, OR. Love, love, love it!!! Also order on-line from them.

Cagey 01-22-2013 07:40 AM

I buy fabric where ever I find it. Lots from Joann's, but also Hancock, Hobby Lobby, LQS, Walmart, etc.
Not fussy, as long as the price is right and the quality is good.

Lori S 01-22-2013 07:45 AM

It would be easier for me to tell you where I don't buy it from. I buy on-line, and LQS. Yep I have even pruchased at Jo'Anns, Hobby Lobby ..the one place I don't is Walmart... mine does not have one thread of fabric.

Jackie Spencer 01-22-2013 08:05 AM

Just found this shop, great prices, QS quality, great sales, (5.00 yd.) and right now $5.00 shipping on all domestic. Whittles Fabrics. Great Shop!!

sewmary 01-22-2013 08:08 AM

Wherever they sell it - except Walmart.

grammy Dwynn 01-22-2013 08:34 AM

I love to support my LQS's! Esp when with quilt buddies on road trips. :) Fabric Depot is close enough, that I can get there a few times a year.

I do not shop on line, because I am a touchy feel-y person.

valleyquiltermo 01-22-2013 08:44 AM

On line almost always, except for the few times I would be near a quilt shop.

QuiltnNan 01-22-2013 08:47 AM

i shop at a local chain... Mill End Textiles http://www.millendtextiles.com/
they have very low starting prices and have fantastic coupons

mighty 01-22-2013 08:50 AM

Where ever I can find it lqs, joann's, hobby lobby, on line.

Buckeye Rose 01-22-2013 08:56 AM

I love shopping online at Connecting Threads as I can buy a collection of prints, knowing that they will all match. The fabric is great quality, customer service outstanding and great pricing. If I have to match a shade of fabric, then I head to the stores - starting at WalMart, then JoAnn's, Hobby Lobby last (because they have very little selection). If all else fails, then I have two LQS that I look, but their pricing is normally out of my budget. I will also look for fabrics at garage sales, Good Will stores. My friends all look for fabric at garage sales for me and sometimes I can get a great deal.

Jingle 01-22-2013 09:29 AM

Connecting threads, wal mart, hobby lobby. Very seldom do I buy from quilt stores, too high a price there.

TanyaL 01-22-2013 09:36 AM

Equilter.com, Hancock's, Walmart

pennycandy 01-22-2013 10:25 AM

There is a store with a nice fabric department within walking distance from me. They have a good selection with great prices. I purchase for the project otherwise it would be too tempting to build a stash.

aronel 01-22-2013 02:33 PM

Hancock's, Walmart, garage - estate sales. Anywhere I can get a good deal!

love to sew 01-22-2013 02:53 PM

all of the above and don't for get yard/estate sales, picked some there too.

ckcowl 01-22-2013 03:09 PM

depends on what i need- the lqs, fabric.com (mainly backing, basics) bayside quilt company (panals, licensed fabrics)primative gatherings, wool central...
i shop around for what i need-looking for reasonable levels for free shipping, or good shipping prices, a good selection & good prices- but it just depends on what i need- if i know my lqs has it=i go there- if i know they do not i generally check fabric.com first (free shipping at $35 and i've been shopping with them for 11+ years) if they do not have what i'm looking for i check the fabshophop list of shops & browse/search for what i'm looking for.

sxboyer 01-22-2013 03:11 PM

Have you ever tried fabric depot online? They have really good buys out there, shipping is reasonable and they are prompt. I passed Fabric Depot on my way home from work for 13 years..... and stopped way more than I should have :-) But even when I lived there and it was that close I used to do the online orders and then pick them up.... if I knew what I wanted. Every time to go to Portland I make it a point to stop at least once!

quilttiger 01-22-2013 04:40 PM

I've bought at LQS only if there is a sale, ditto with online sources, sometimes at Joann Fabrics if on sale, and if the quality is good. I have found some really good buys at garage sales and thrift stores. Once at an estate sale. The trick is to read the selvages and look for well known names such as Timeless Treasures, Moda, etc. I avoid the calicos...bought too much of them when I first started quilting and didn't know better, lol.

Dolphyngyrl 01-22-2013 06:38 PM

everywhere online, joanns, walmart, LQS

Mama Clem 01-23-2013 04:03 AM

I like to feel the fabric when buying for quilts. I have some local favorite shops The Quilt Patch and G Street Fabrics. I do have a store that is a little farther from home but worth the drive. It's called Webfabrics. I do order online from them because I know the quality of their fabrics but I treat myself to a field trip every so often.

Rivercity 01-23-2013 04:03 AM

Most often online is eQuilter and I have ordered from Fabric Depot and Thousands of Bolts. In person, Country Sewing Center in Elk Grove, Thistle Dew in Fair Oaks, and Quilter's Corner, Sacramento. I'm happy with all of them. :)

kteall 01-23-2013 04:45 AM

LQS and Fabric.com. Best deals and fabulous customer service. Free shipping on orders over $35.

nygal 01-23-2013 05:03 AM

My favorite places are Joann Fabrics where I can go in person, online I shop at Connecting Threads, Equilter, Handcock of Paducah and Keepsake Quilting. Those are my favorites.

Scakes 01-23-2013 05:26 AM

Where ever I see fabric I like - LQS, Hobby Lobby, Hancocks, Joanns, yard sales, thrift stores, online. Most of the LQS have closed around here but there is a great store called A & E in Pensacola, FL that is half drug store and half fabric and they have a wonderful selection of sewing and quilting items. When we are traveling, I watch for quilt/fabric shops and they make nice break time stops.

GammaLou 01-23-2013 05:43 AM

From my LQS's, Joanns, estate and garage sales. I have not purchased fabric on-line yet, but have thought about it. I really would hate to see my LQS's go out of business!!

Thank you for sharing. I just looked at the site and will be going back soon for fabric.

oleganny 01-23-2013 06:43 AM

For health reasons, it is difficult for me to go shopping & I would love to be able to shop online, but when I see that the cost of online fabric is more than my LQS, I just can't make myself pay it. Fortunatel;y my closest LQS (have been shopping there for close to 40 years) is so client friendly. I can call & ask if they have a certain fabric, tell them wht I want, & if I have a specific project in mind, I can tell them how much of co-ordinating fabrc (lgt/med/dk) I need & they will pick for me - my DD can go in, make the final decision, & pick it up for me. I also like her FQ policy. Her FQ's are cut from end of bolt, clearance, etc, & are always less than the per yd cost of the fabric. She also has a buyer appreciation card so after you purchase so much, you get a little something free or % off next purchase. She must be doing something right to have been in business for so long & the shop is always busy. Until I can match her service & prices online, I will continue to shop there. The next closest shop is about 20 miles away, but they have also been in business forever & are good to deal with & have excellent sales.

I like Green Fairy Quilts for pre-cuts. All their pre-cuts are on sale all the time and they carry only the well-known manufacturers. Shipping is reasonable and fast.

I also like Connecting Threads A LOT.

solstice3 01-23-2013 07:35 AM

joann's (be selective), Hobby Lobby, Connecting threads, fabric.com, LQS, Wal-mart, thrift stores etc. It is all in when and where you find the quality

PolkaBabe 01-23-2013 09:50 AM

Hancock Fabrics.

butterflies5518 01-23-2013 10:32 AM

A majority of my stash is from here (Quilt Board), the remainder from my local LQS and joann's (BF LOVES FQs and its up to me to use them - hence the stock pile of them!).

Wintersewer 01-23-2013 11:44 AM

www.thousandsofbolts.com www.5bucksayard.com www.connectingthreads.com occasionally my LQS and Joann Fabrics

nhweaver 01-23-2013 12:00 PM

I buy fabric anywhere I can find it. I do buy online, and have been very happy with the prices and the quality. I buy at lqs's too, but lately it seems that the selection is getting stale. I love Hancock's of Paducah - their catalog is a feast for the eyes.

MissSongbird 01-23-2013 12:22 PM

Usually Joann's, then Hancock, and if something strikes me and I can afford it my LQS.

mcdaniel023 01-23-2013 03:17 PM

I buy at my lqs, Joann's, Hobby Lobby, etc. But, my favorite place is an ebay store called Crowsnestquiltingfabrics.
The Red Roster fabrics are awesome and are about $4.50 a yard. I ordered on Friday and it was here yesterday (Tuesday) and Monday was a holiday. This was my third time purchasing from them. They combine shipping.

Same here as I have not had good luck with their fabric.

jvelardi 01-23-2013 08:21 PM

Just checked out Whittles, THANK YOU!

Chasing Hawk 01-23-2013 08:40 PM

Joann's
Hancocks
Walmart

And when we take a road trip to Portland, I overspend at the Fabric Depot.
I avoid the LQS like the plague.
