My sister called me just a little bit ago and she is sending me all her fabric as she is giving up sewing and quilting. She is shipping 5 big boxes of fabric and when she comes this summer she is giving me my Mom's treadle machine. Most of her fabric comes from LQS.

willferg 12-29-2010 07:39 AM

Woo hoo!

Charleen DiSante 12-29-2010 07:40 AM

Always sorry to hear when someone is no longer sewing or quilting but what a fantastic late Christmas present :)

koko 12-29-2010 07:41 AM

Sorry your sister is giving up sewing and quilting but it's a really lucky day for you. I'm sure you will be in quilt heaven when those boxes arrive.

Deborah12687 12-29-2010 07:44 AM

I'm not sure were I will put it all....but will figure something out.

sueisallaboutquilts 12-29-2010 07:55 AM

My sister is sooooo...great! She works with disabled children and she just got promoted to full time and she won't have time to do sewing anymore. She also is tired of sewing and the clutter.

amma 12-29-2010 08:02 AM

So sorry to hear that DS is giving up on sewing, but happy to hear that she is passing it all on to you, especially the treadle :D:D:D

cjomomma 12-29-2010 08:05 AM

sewwhat85 12-29-2010 08:15 AM

sorry for her good for you

KathyAire 12-29-2010 09:50 AM

You lucky dog. It's nice that your sister is keeping it in the family. I would guess that it wouldn't be as hard to part with one's fabric knowing where it is going.

AnnieH 12-29-2010 09:51 AM

Smashing. What a lovely sister.
Annie

'Smashing', that just sounds sooo cute!

Free is always good, ENJOY.

franie 12-29-2010 10:54 AM

Good for you but bad for her. Why is she giving up?

My sister was working part time with disabled kids and she got an offer to go full time and decided she wouldn't have much time to herself to do her quilting. She also is burnt out on quilting and wants her time for herself to do other things.

TN Donna 12-29-2010 11:36 AM

Wow! I am glad she thought of you first. Enjoy.

pocoellie 12-29-2010 11:49 AM

Wow!!!!!!! What a lucky gal you are.

Deborah12687 12-29-2010 11:58 AM

One thing my Mom and Grandma instilled in every one of us is always have lots of fabric on hand as you never know when times get tuff your butt is covered!

Raggiemom 12-29-2010 12:44 PM

What a great gift, but it's too bad she's giving it up.

MoMoSews 12-29-2010 12:46 PM

Wowser

BellaBoo 12-29-2010 12:46 PM

You may be storing it for her as she will know where it is. She may want some of it back later. LOL

ann clare 12-29-2010 02:22 PM

Congrats. Enjoy.

Diecy 12-29-2010 08:30 PM

Sad to hear your sister is giving up sewing and quilting.
Happy you've hit the Jackpot though! :-D :-D

jeanneb52 12-30-2010 03:13 AM

Happy dance happy dance. I LOOOOOVE boxes from heaven.

girlsfour 12-30-2010 04:42 AM

Good to hear it's not a bad reason she is giving up sewing. How exciting it will be to go through the fabric!! Have fun!

Psychomomquilter 12-30-2010 04:58 AM

Hey! everyone, I seem to remember that when someone has the "sewing" bug be it sewing, quilting or anything else, they will come back to it, may be awhile but they do come back!!

quilt3311 12-30-2010 05:08 AM

Oh, thats great, sorry to hear she is giving it up though, but you are lucky to get it. I think she deserves a nice quilt made from her fabric. grin

mimee4 12-30-2010 05:13 AM

What a wonderful gift.

Julie in NM 12-30-2010 05:24 AM

Hmmmm. Idea here. Would you want to make a quilt out of her fab as a thank you?

#1piecemaker 12-30-2010 05:34 AM

Wow!!!!! How lucky are you!!! I wish someone would pass a stash on to me!!! I think I would make her the biggest quilt I could for all that!!

sandpat 12-30-2010 05:58 AM

Well...good for you but I'm sad for your sister at having to give it up. You'll make something beautiful with it though!

moreland 12-30-2010 06:02 AM

You might remind her you will share "her" fabric when she gets the quilting bug again, like when she retires! How nice she thought of you.

vivoaks 12-30-2010 07:34 AM

WOW!!!! I'm drooling....

cdufur 12-30-2010 08:10 AM

I'm sorry to hear that she is quitting...but what a great thing for you!

quiltyjax 12-30-2010 08:46 AM

ooh how generous of her. She sounds a lovely lady who likes to give. I would think that she never made herself a quilt so, as someone else has said, a lovely thankyou would be a quilt from her fabric with a note to say you'll share when she feels to time is right to quilt again.

Why is she quitting? Is she OK?
