Ok as of this month I am totally on a spending FREEZE as far as fabric goes - I have made a committment to myself that I will only buy something if I need it to finish a quilt ---- until my stash is reduced by 1/2 or until the summer 30% off coupon comes out from fabric.com ;-) ..... yet I spend at least 10 minutes a day here looking at the fabric for sale .. why do I do this to myself??

What's your fabric obsession confession?

Cyn 12-09-2010 05:14 PM

Same as you- torturing myself looking at fabrics on sale!

bj 12-09-2010 05:16 PM

I love to buy fat quarters, whether I need them or not. I think they are so fun! I cannot walk out of JoAnn's without at least a couple.

Lady Tapioca 12-09-2010 05:16 PM

Same here! Promised myself 'no spending unless I really need it'. Well, just to be safe, I spent another $100.00 on fabric I just know I'll use in something!

Jim's Gem 12-09-2010 05:17 PM

Oh...... Ummmm...... My LQS has a sale starting tomorrow for 3 days, 33% off everything in the store, well at least 33% off on fabrics but everything is on sale. I plan on buying several cans of 505 spray, some thread and of course I may just have to buy some fabrics. It's on sale for heaven's sake!!!

cjomomma 12-09-2010 05:36 PM

I'm taking the fifth on this!! LOL!!

katier825 12-09-2010 05:38 PM

I say the same thing to myself frequently...so far, the longest I've lasted is about a week. :)

Baron's fabrics, right here in Camarillo. Less than a mile from my house and right next to Trader Joes. Of course everytime I go into Trader's I must go to Baron's

TymeToShine 12-09-2010 05:50 PM

If it has cute doggies on it, I am a goner!

crkathleen 12-09-2010 05:50 PM

You go girl! I'd be right behind you if I lived closer!

deedum 12-09-2010 06:04 PM

I lasted about two weeks without going anywhere near a fabric store, I had withdrawal symptons that only another fabricoholic could understand! I have decided no matter how big your stash is, you just don't always have the right fabric everytime....so off I go!

Colorful Quilter 12-09-2010 09:08 PM

Tyme to shine, would you like some doggie fabric??? I have some that you can have for free

Connie in CO 12-09-2010 09:21 PM

A buying freeze you say.....Gosh I made the same commitment for December.....but then I couldn't resist some Christmas fabrics online at terrific deals......then I did it a second time. Both packages came tonight and when I brought them in from the mail, I stole away to my sewing room pretending I had gifts to hide......little did he know, they were little gifts....for moi....Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas to ME! These fabric stores out our way are not helping....25 days of Christmas sales, with email reminders and coupons coming every day. They know we can't resist. Ugh....I'm doomed! I'm a quilt-a-holic! P.S. Tomorrow's deal of the day is 25% off on Bali Pops.....hmmmm??

fayza 12-09-2010 09:36 PM

Not only was my confession that I purchase too much fabric, but I can't stand to let all my new fabrics just lay in the stash --- I have to cut it up and have it ready to use on a project.... Don't ask why it don't bother me if its cut up and ready to be put together and it lays, and lays, and lays, and lays ........... No kidding I will get up out of the bed at night to cut new fabric........ It's impossible for me to build a large stash, and I would really like to. HELP!

AnnaK 12-09-2010 10:32 PM

Go and look at the thread called "fabric moratorium". Some of us joined and so far, so good. I also need to make headway into my stash before I buy any more. I am finding all kinds of creative ideas for using it. Join us and let's share what we make as we go. Good luck to you.

SuziC 12-10-2010 03:17 AM

I alway say "no more" to myself...i don't know what happens! The EVIL fabric monger takes over and i end up just picking up a few pieces.....sure at least 50.00 later, i come home with it and say again "no more". It's that old fabric curse :!:

I live in the middle of nowhere too, don't want to be snowed in and no fabric or projects to do! That is my story and sticking to it.

deema 12-10-2010 04:38 AM

Uhmmmm...I haven't GONE to a fabric store in a few weeks. But I did buy some fabric on here and some more fabric at Connecting Threads...I'm not on a "official" spending freeze, but I've been trying to only buy for planned projects. I'm still collecting for one of them, but in the last month, I think it is safe to say that I've only purchased for those planned ones...I think.

deedum 12-10-2010 04:42 AM

I stopped by the fabric store last nite (again) and bought some more fabric for aprons to make. Christmas aprons, if I don't get them done this year, be a great project to get started on for next year, to get ahead of the gifts for once. I am not on a spending freeze but we are trying to be careful with what we do spend.

Becky Crafts 12-10-2010 05:18 AM

I have little to no storage in our motorhome, so have to be careful, but must confess my love of fabric is rearing its head again since I started quilting. Thought I'd conquered it after the kids moved out & didn't need new things all the time. When moving from home to motorhome, you would all have been horrified at the amounts of fabrics, notions, etc. I had stashed everywhere. You could almost hear the house sigh with relief as it was carried away. It was the hardest thing I've ever had to do!! With quilting, it's starting all over though. Some is even stacked in the shower & I have to unload it to take the shower & make sure its dry before putting it back! Hubby thinks I need help! LOL

ruthruff3 12-10-2010 05:25 AM

I went to a LQS yesterday to get my buck-a-block for this month and came out with an almost $52 receipt - the buck a block was only $1 but boy did they have some great sales too!!!

Karyn 12-10-2010 05:26 AM

I'm a pushover for Christmas fabric. I just love it and have to have a piece of every one that I see and don't own.

CarrieAnne 12-10-2010 05:28 AM

Yeesh....I WORK in a fabric store. Way to much to tempt me. I am like a rat in a cheese factory....what to buy next..........

raptureready 12-10-2010 05:34 AM

A good way to avoid fabric stores is to re-organize your stash. Or at least it works for me. When I do that and realize how much I actually have, how there's not room to store what I have, and how much simpler my life would be if I didn't have so much, it makes it much easier NOT to buy. However, I'm going to a fabric store today and will probably buy backing for at least one quilt if not two. Oh and a batting. And I'm planning to go to Fat Tuesday in February---where a LQS has all their fats on sale for $1.50 and the person that buys the most wins a prize. (I came in second last year with 68). The first week in June I'll be going to Marshal's Dry Goods in Bateville Arkansas on a MAJOR FART. Probably bring back several hundred dollars worth of fabric but their batiks are usually on sale that week for $2.99 a yard.

jolo 12-10-2010 05:37 AM

I am so blessed. I went to my LQS and the owner is my best friend also. I went to get some Christmas themed fabric even tho I had made up my mind to use my stash, due to the fact in all my quilt making over the years and years,I had never done one in all Christmas fabs. My friend said to me,I have so much of this fabric in my personal stash,Make me a quilt and I will give you enough for your quilt also. whoooooooooooo whoooooooo. I almost have them both cut out and am piecing one of them. I will post pics of it when finished. mERRY CHRISTMAS everyone. JO

CarrieAnne 12-10-2010 05:46 AM

Lucky you, Jo, thats AWESOME!!!!!!!!

Calico92402 12-10-2010 05:46 AM

I've tried this "self-imposed ban on buying fabric" for some months now, but it's not working so well. I joke with my husband and friends that it's my civic and patriotic duty as a quilter to participate any time JoAnn's or Hancock Fabrics has a big sale, and when JoAnn's sells their Red Tag specials at half price, I really, really can't resist! I like scrappy quilts and most of mine are for charity, so I can use most anything (that's on sale!).

steelecg 12-10-2010 05:56 AM

I am sure I could have taken several European vacations with the amount of fabric I was bringing home. Then I had a friend come and help me sort through it all. I kept the things I an sure I will do and donated the rest to a school for the mentally challenged. I have need to finish some projects before I get more. It is hard but I feel better - now I need to attack the rest of my house.

Lori S 12-10-2010 06:07 AM

I wish I had a $$ for all the broken promises to myself about purchasing more fabric. it interesting that the justifications for breaking the "promise" really has not changed much. Although this year there is the "cotton is going to go sky high" excuse. Like I needed another justification.

sumcoop 12-10-2010 06:12 AM

It is almost impossible for me to pass up a bargain. I can stay out of the regular cloth shops even with a sale for fabric, but can't pass up cloth from the thrift stores.
I have flannel sheets, shower curtains, etc...anything big and cotton and cheap....it usually comes home with me.
I am trying hard to beat my addiction...but not succeeding.
Who can pass up 9 yards for $3????? You know you can make something sometime.
Told my Mom cotton prices were going up...her reply"Don't worry you will have enough to sew until you are my age(81)...another 30 years.

PS send me any addresses of thrift stores you know.
