My dh called and said his boss gave him some fabric. I was expecting junk. Was I wrong! i got 3 shopping bags and one trash bag full of fabric. one was all batiks. Of course I shared it with some friends. I have so many batiks, i don't know what to do with it all. Just wanted to share my good luck with all of you. all of it was great quality fabrics too. No Waste.

Boston1954 05-04-2017 12:39 PM

I can give you my address when ever you are ready! I just love batiks. :-)

I just now noticed that you are on Long Island. My mother was born in Richmond Hill, and grew up in Babylon, and Hempstead.

lynnie 05-04-2017 12:45 PM

babylon is right down the road about 30 miles away.

any suggestions for all of those batiks. or for the 30 something fat quarters?

selm 05-04-2017 01:46 PM

sell it on here or give it away on here for the cost of the postage.

Tartan 05-04-2017 01:49 PM

I think I would look for a quilt pattern for batiks. Maybe one of the intricate applique patterns since they fray less. Congratulations on your wind fall!

RedGarnet222 05-04-2017 02:31 PM

I like to wear summer dresses and tops made with batiks. They are very cool (literally) and summery looking done with the right colors.

Have fun with your windfall!

quiltingcandy 05-04-2017 02:51 PM

That's so nice of his boss. It's always fun to go thru fabric, and to get it for free, even better.

patsan 05-04-2017 03:19 PM

Wow, how nice. I would love for someone to give me all that fabric. Lynnie, where are you on LI? I am in Ridge.

red-warrior 05-04-2017 03:24 PM

Happy for you and can't wait to see what you create!

Jane Quilter 05-04-2017 03:42 PM

Batiks look beautiful in the Yellow Brick Road pattern. I made one for a young lady to take with her to college. She loved it and was so glad to have it since her dorm was always cold. Even though DH knew the quilt was for her he had hopes I'd keep it.

I have several batiks that were given to me also, I have been looking at the Scrappy Batiks quilt in the picture section and figured out the pattern, now all I have to do is cut the blocks and get ready to sew. why is it so hard to get started some days?

coopah 05-04-2017 05:33 PM

Nice boss! Save out what you want and then...well, you have lots of ideas. You could always donate to churches, guilds that make quilts for homeless shelters, NICUs, etc. Whatever you decide, enjoy the thoughtfulness of that boss.

JustAbitCrazy 05-04-2017 06:27 PM

How nice! Congratulations and have fun with it!

lynnie 05-04-2017 06:32 PM

Marge, what a wonderful quilt. i might just make that one.
I forgot that I too do NICU quilts. I'll make some of them too.

mamagrande 05-04-2017 06:47 PM

I don't if his boss was a man or a woman....and I hope that the Batiks were theirs and not the spouses..hehe

luvstoquilt 05-05-2017 03:31 AM

Send the 30's to me!!! Lol

Wanabee Quiltin 05-05-2017 04:52 AM

I made the most beautiful Courthouse Steps Log Cabin quilt with batiks. I also made several other quilts with batiks and they are beautiful. If you have any of Kim Brackett's books, I would suggest using any of her patterns. I think batiks cut up and used with black or even beige (white) work great in a scrappy quilt. I think I've made 4 quilts now with batiks and they were very scrappy. Lucky you with all that wonderful quilt fabric, sort of an early Mother's Day gift.

Daylesewblessed 05-05-2017 05:43 AM

Congratulations! Nice things happen to nice people!

Nammie to 7 05-05-2017 05:54 AM

It must be like Christmas and your birthday all rolled into one. I can only imagine the hours you will spend sorting thru the fabric and imaging all the great quilts you will create.

JanieH 05-05-2017 06:14 AM

Congratulations to you - you deserve them. I have followed your comments and postings on QB and know you will do something wonderful with all of them!

NoraB 05-05-2017 06:34 AM

Wow! What a nice surprise for you! You are such a generous person.....it's good to see you got to be a recipient for a change. Oh what fun you must have had looking thru all the fabric! Congratulations on your gift!

annette1952 05-05-2017 07:46 AM

That was so nice of your DH's boss to think of you to gift the fabric to. Have fun with all of your new stash. I know you will find a good use for it

redstilettos 05-05-2017 07:54 AM

What a great thing to have happen!

You could do contests here on the board and use them for prizes :)

Kitsie 05-05-2017 08:11 AM

My cousin is on Bali right buying me (and herself) a bunch of batiks! Here is a post by Boston 1954 of the quilt I'd love to make with them! Thanks Boston 1954!

lynnie 05-05-2017 02:23 PM

KITSI, GREAT QUILT, I'LL TAKE IT UNDER CONSIDERATION.
i still don't know what i'm doing. I went thru the fabrics with friends and let
them have their pick of all of the fabric. These people re my close quilting friends
and i like to share with them when i can.

Painiacs 05-05-2017 10:31 PM

What a great boss!! Would love some batiks! MISSOURI QUILT Co has a great pattern using batiks I'd love to do if I could afford the batiks! Emerald isle I believe...

Gerbie 05-06-2017 01:19 AM

I think the 30's would look great in dresden or Sun Bonnet Sue blocks.Congrats on your new additions to your stash. I can't say about the batiks- if there is enough in size to use- they would make a beautiful jacket, since you aid you already had a lot.

quilterpurpledog 05-06-2017 02:50 AM

Sounds like a treasure trove to me. It is always fun to receive fabric.

Mariah 05-06-2017 07:11 AM

fabric

They work up beautifully in Landscapes--like for water, some hills, ect. Good luck!

I'm making this Dresden Plate Quilt with batiks and am happy with the way it is turning out. Other quilts made with batiks that I found are: Trade winds strip quilt, Butterflies Quilt tute- Jenny Doan (MSQC), Stained Glass Quilt by Rose Smith, Cool Water Quilt by Fons & Porter, Coin Quilt w/Pizzazz -Jenny Doan (MSQC), Layer it up - Quilting Quickly (F & P). Let us know what you decide.

Carol34446 05-06-2017 10:55 AM

Happy for you. Was at thrift store with daughter and got a bag that sign said was linens. I bought it for $3.00 and it was a plastic bag with zipper king size quilts come it. Some had been used but big enough to use in scrap quilt, 3 peices that are nice cotton and 3-4 yards each and some heavy I will use for dog beds for the dogs. Will wait to see what you make out of them. Love batiks

Rose Bagwell 05-06-2017 12:27 PM

Lucky you, my favorite kind of fabric is batiks.

busy fingers 05-06-2017 01:14 PM

Perhaps some of the fabric could be made into a "thank you" quilt for your hub's boss for the lovely fabric.

ube quilting 05-06-2017 01:48 PM

What a nice surprise from your boss. Would he appreciate a wall hanging or lap quilt made from his gift. That would be the fist thing I would do, as a thank you.
peace

Judith1005 05-06-2017 01:50 PM

Congrats Lynnie, Enjoy your good fortune!

lynnie 05-06-2017 04:24 PM

Qand E, love the big Dresdan quilt you made. I also found out that my cousin is expecting. I'm so excited about it. What to do next for her??? Maybe a batik quilt.
