Inquiring minds would like to know, What is your favorite block and Why?
I am interested in learning about new blocks that I haven't discovered yet:) |
talk about new blocks I have just made a Ribbon block looks hard but not bad it all. I would love to see some quilts made with this block. I'm think it well be my next quilt. after I get some of my UFO done. I have been makeing all kind of differt 12" block for a quilt just to see if I all to make, the way they look done.
For quick and easy I like the pinwheel. I use it a lot for baby quilts. Because I like the way it looks there is Friendship Star. For the fun of seeing what each step looks like I do Stack and Whack. I have most of Bethany Reynolds books. Lately I've done several fan quilts using this method. In the past I was the Block of the Month chair for the guild. These are some I enjoyed: Cracker, Irish Chain, Single Wedding Ring (also called Squirrel in a Cage), Josephine's Knot, Crumb Basket (a great way to use up scraps), Jack-in-the-Box, Columbian Puzzle, Weathervane (done to look like a flower).
I've used the Ribbon block as a border and love it! My favorite quilt is a Sampler so I get to try out many different patterns, but my favorite block is the simple Snowball. It can be used so many different ways; spacer block, background for applique, by itself with a fabric "just too pretty to cut" and many other uses.
It is hard for me to decide on a block as I get looking and want to make them all!
My favorites are...Weathervane block, and just about any star block...there are so many great quilt blocks that are fun to play with!
My favorite changes every day:) I like them all!
I have recently discovered the kaliedascope blocks and I love making them. Each one turns our differently and I've found that even the fabric I would not have chosen to buy is usually the one that makes the prettiest blocks. (sorry, can't remember how to spell it) LOL!
I love to appliqué, either by hand or machine, so anything with appliqué is my favourite type of block.
Any pics of the rivvon block ???
For me it is usually a paper pieced star type of design, Mariners being my favorite :D:D:D

I love them all....I love to go to quilterscache and look at the blocks....THEN go and look at the finished quilt...more often than not I love the block, but not the finished quilt..rarely does a really pretty block look good when there are 24 of them all bunched together...so I am of the TWO block quilt gang..hehehe
I told my husband the uglier the block the prettier the quilt! I am partial to star blocks though... |
I like Ohio star but there are so many it's hard to choose just one.
The Ohio Star and the Frienship star are my fall back, becausse they truly work well in a quilt. For a single block, I love the Japanese Lantern from quilterscache.com
My favorite block is whatever I am sewing at a given time. If I have strips to use (scraps) either log cabin or a string quilt would be my choice. The way some of the newer techniques show off fabric are flat out fun to do, too. In other words, no favorites, love them all. piecefully, the old one

Log cabin is my favorite block.
My 'go to' block is a log cabin -- simple to make, great for using up leftovers, and they play well together. There are probably hundreds of ways to set them to get a different looking quilt.
My absolute favorite is the Log Cabin but I try many different ones. It's fun to see other blocks develope but go back to my fave! I used it for my mother's 90th birthday memory quilt. And I'll use it a lot more!
It's hard to say because they are all beautiful!! I guess my 2 favorites are log cabin and pineapple blocks.
Amish Dahlia as I like the bas-relief effect of the flower.
Churn Dash - because I like to 'fussy cut' fabric for the center block (great for kids/baby quilts). Also Attic Windows...am working on an "All Creatures Great & Small" quilt for myself. Using every fabric I could find for animals, birds, water creatures, etc, and am embroidering the poem around the edges.

Hello, Jitkaau!
Just noticed you are from Australia...what part? I used to live outside of Melbourne, Victoria... |
I like soooo many but I think my favorites to do are...crumb quilts and string quilts.....I like to use up scraps and I have so much fun doing those two quilts..they are freeing and I am not a follow the directions kinda person........
My fav has always been the Log Cabin. Never made one, (just quilting 3 years)but I will sometime. Have no clue what the ribbon block, pineapple, or Amish Dahlia are. Would love to see them. Thanks for all the little clues everyone puts in their notes. Never heard of the quilterscache.com but will check it out this morning.

I've been sitting here for 10 minutes, going through all the quilts I've made and trying to pick a favorite. I give up. I can't ever tell until it is made.
All the ones I have. I could not pick one over the others.
When I research the ribbon block, which i am not familiar with, I come up with several. Which one are you referring to? thanks, Ann in TN
My favorite is the Churn Dash block, Don't know why but I have always been drawn to it.
New York beauty!!! Hands down favorite!
Rising star, I love it. I made my kitchen curtains out of it. It looks excellent. It is a super easy block to construct, but it is so beautiful when completed. The directions for this block is on quilterscache.com. Very easy and simple directions to complete.
I think I would have to say that the pinwheel is my favorite. Because you don't need special measurements just 2 pieces of fabric the same size and you can make them.

The Bear Paw. It looks great no matter what size you make ut.
Hunter's Star is my favorite at this moment...though that may change as I keep looking through the pics on this board! I have always been drawn to stars.
I love anything with stars. I'm currently making a Split Star/Log Cabin. I also played around with a 9 patch block last night, so I think the disappearing 9 patch may become a favorite too.
