I have the same problem but thats my fault

i tried heat and bond , and after i wash the quilt all the letters fell off !! i wrote to the company and they said if it was set with the iron being to hot or for a longer time then needed it wont work , i now use staem a seam and love it , i cut out the middle of a design and it doesnt feel as stiff

I have to agree with Izy. Cut out the center & use it for smaller projects.

Just a caution. If you are using just the edges be careful ironing them down to the fabric so they don't distort without the middle to stabilize them.

Thank you for this topic I plan to do an applique project with my residents in May. I am looking for projects that are simple but beautiful. I have to make a model for them to start with. I'm thinking a small door banner for spring / summer would be nice. Late in the summer a fall banner. Most of them don't have any thing on their doors now. Any advice would be appriceated. PM me please.

Have you tried steam a seam lite 2?? It is much softer, but a great tip is to actually cut out the centre of the fusible on any piece that is large enough, leaving only a 1/4" border of fusible. This lessens the stiffness a lot! Plus if you are careful you can re-use what you cut out for smaller appliques!

When I use fusing for appliques, I first bond it to the fabric and then cut out the applique. How do you cut out the middle?

With the paper backed fusible you trace the piece onto the paper rough cut around the piece and cut out the middle before fusing it to the back of the fabric. If your fusible doesn't have paper to trace on, you can iron on a piece of parchment paper then trace, cut out the middle and fuse.

The tent has part of the middle cut out before fusing.
