I am getting ready to make a rail fence quilt for my BIL, I will use med to dark colors in a scrapppy. I also love the bear claw for men, but haven't made that yet. A turning twenty in a scrappy theme I think will be on my agenda too, maybe for my son.

I think most patterns make great quilts for men. To me it's all in the fabrics and colors you choose. Keepsake quilting has some great samples of men appropriate quilts in their little mailer every month. You could also check them out online.

I agree that patterns don't need to be specific. It's the fabric you choose. Here are two that I just gave to very special men. If I had used lavender and rose colors on the same patterns, many people would never visualize how they could be made differently to appeal to a man.

All quilts for male members of the family. Doesn't seem that one is more popular than another. All very basic.

The quilts I made for my DH, DS, DSIL, and DGS have been regular patterns (Trip Around the World, Fences, Lady of the Lake), but made with more masculine fabrics, like navys, deep reds, dark greens, etc. They loved them. In fact, my DS has moved into a modern penthouse condo in downtown Atlanta and has asked for a new quilt in a modern pattern and fabrics.

Almost any block pattern except floral blocks should work in masculine colors - blue, green, brown, black. Yellow can work for accents. I would agree to stay away from feminine fabrics, mainly stay away from floral fabrics. So, autumn colors would work, maple block, others have suggested bear pay, that works, most stars would work. Depending on the man, sports theme, car theme fabrics might work.

I love all your quilts. I was wondering if you have a pattern or instructions for the last one, the red and black one.
Thanks
