This thread is sadly over 10 years old. AZ Jane has posted fairly recently but not for a couple of years yet stranger things have happened and maybe somebody knows if this was a pattern.

It looks pretty clearly to me like it is based on (finished sizes) 6" blocks with 2" sashing. Most of the blocks are just standard 9-patch or Flying Geese, etc. A couple I think were probably done using up scraps, but most are easily searchable on line, or easily drawn on graph paper.

I'm trying to find the right pattern for a quilt for my adult son. He likes fixing motorcycles, building his house and loves growing plants. The motorcycle quilts that I've seen are too literal, or somehow political (yikes!) I haven't been able to find anything that relates to home construction and the plants patterns are all so feminine. Maybe I should go with something modern and abstract...like a kaleidoscope of motorcycle wheels...I dunno. Ideas please.

I’ve seen some succulent plants quilt patterns that don’t strike me as very feminine. What do you mean, motorcycle quilts that are “too literal’ ? Like you don’t want blocks that depict a motorcycle?

Tropit, I don't know if this is too political for your taste, but I just made this for my youngest brother. He rides a motorcycle and has a group of friends that he goes on trips with. About 2 weeks ago, they went up into NC and I knew it would be cooler there than here in Alabama, so I wanted to give him a quilt to use in the little pull-around camper that he pulls behind his motorcycle. He said the quilt was a great thing to have, as it got quite cool in the mountains.

I think that I found a quilt that I can make a little more masculine by changing a few colors:

He has a large collection of houseplants and fruit trees. I think that he'll like this one.

My guild is making half log cabin blocks avoiding pinks and colour combinations that may be construed as "feminine". Most of us are going scrappy. I'm matching the two arms of each round and have about ten fabrics from bright blue to dark grey. I'm still on block construction and think that each block is unique.

I think a masculine quilt is more recognized by the colours rather than the layout, although I'm not sure fans could ever be masculine.

I agree...the colors can make all the difference. While looking for a pattern for him, I also bought E. Hartman's "Arctic Feathers" quilt, partially because I like the colors she chose...very masculine, with a brown background. I'm not sure which one I'll make for him.
