I bought a 4'x8' sheet of white styrofoam, 2 inches thick and covered it with flannel. It leans against the wall in my sewing room,(tilted, by 2 inches from the wall at floor level) I don't worry about putting it away when not in use, because it is always in use... LOL

I use a flannel backed table cloth and fasten
it to the wall with sewing machine neeles so no big holes in the wall and works great can also take one to class or retreat and design roll up cloth and everything still in place when I get home

I put a curtain rod over the closet opening in my sewing room. When I need to "design" I hang a piece of white felt from the rod. When not in use I just fold up the piece of felt and store it.

I like this idea as I have limited wall space in my sewing room/guest room. I need to get things put away when the DGD visits which is often.

I love mine too! So as not to put holes in the wall, DH came up with a creative idea. Got a piece of flannel and i put a unside down "pocket" in the top to fit the door. When i am not using it, fold it up and store away.Oh yea...the piece of material was only $3.37!

What's a design wall? Is it like a cork board with patterns on it? If so I have one of those, above my sewing machine

I'm so happy for you ! The one I have is rather small right now. I hope to remedy that soon ;-) I used the floor or my dining room table for the last quilt top I pieced and wish that I had done it on a design wall. It would have given me a different perspective and I would have made some design changes. Oh well. My daughter won't care! But going forward I will using a design wall for placememt... makes a difference!

I have a design wall and love it. I have a shelf above my closet so I just just use a flannel backed vinyl table cloth and attach it with the large office clips on shelf and it works great.
