i've never used rulers or templates to make flying geese. i always just made them. so, i see that the elonore burns flying geese rulers? templates? are on sale. but there are a limited number of sizes. i don't make geese that often, so tell me: those of you who make them often, is there a size that's most common? are her sizes worth owning? are any worth owning anyway, regardless of size? does anyone own these?

I LOVE these rulers and her way of making them. I have all 3 of the sizes and use them all the time. It is done with squares and then trimmed to size.

I almost bought a flying geese template at the quilting show, but out of all the blocks that is my least favorite. Don't like making them and don't like the way they look, but the template did make it look easy. I thought if I ever did make them I would want a template. does this help? :D

i have never used them before either..i use the rectangle with 2 squares method.. it is called no waste flying geese..

Eleanor has another method of making the flying geese with 2 squares sewn together, which is how I do it since I don't make them very often.

I was intimidated by flying geese since I knew how exact everything had to be for them to turn out correctly. When I was in Atlanta at the Sewing and Quilt Expo I watched Deb Tucker show how several of her templates worked. I bought three of her templates, one of them being the Wing Clipper. I don't have any other flying geese templates to compare it to, but I can say it seems very easy to me now to make flying geese. It ranges in size from 1 1/2" to 10" I think, maybe 10 1/2". Can't remember for sure right now. :)

This is the directions that have used always. It's een some time ago that a very dear friend showed me how to make the neatest geese and how to make sure they were evened out regardless of what size. The flying geese and the friendship star are my two most favorite blocks. I also found, years ago before I was so sick, a block called the pin wheel. But it's the 3 D pin wheel and I have used this block in a lot of juvenile quilts over the years. And I have received so many compliments on this particular block. Frankly with my lack of self esteem, any type of approval on the things I do, I so appreciate.
