i watch it , but it is not the same without liz, i am not crazy about her daughter on the show
|
I agree. It's just not the same without Liz. The daughter is a fairly new quilter but is trying to talk like she has her mom's expertise. Just isn't cutting it for me.

Not the same with out Liz! She was so calm! June in Cincinnati |

Eleanor Burns is on RFD channel 345 on Wed. at 2:30 and again after midnight, same program. Hope this helps anyone who has Direct TV, I have no idea about Dish network but if do a search for quilting shows you might find something. Longarm  |
I do miss her, but the daughter is trying. I liked their last show with the twister pattern, I wish I had the article they talked about. I tried making the template, turned out okay, but if I had the directions it would probably be better.
|
I wish the girl would stop saying YEP.
|
Liz is retired and Marianne said she was partially retired. I watch them every nite at 6:30 on Direct ch.374. I think Mary does the best she can. She'll learn-she's young.

I just wished we got the show here in Australia...we are staved of quilting shows here we have nothing ....
|
I agree !!! I personally learn much better with videos instead of trying to follow written instructions..youtube and missouri quilt are where I got my start before I found this forum...Blessings and happy quilting.
|
I'll miss Liz, but I'm glad the show is still on.
I enjoy watching Mother and Daughter quilting together. I like the message that it sends out. That quilting isn't just for people with gray hair. And that it can be enjoyable as a shared, family hobby. I would like to see them bring some children on the show and what projects would be good for them. Get 3 generations quilting! |
I have been watching the 2010 series with Mary and Maryann. I like Mary she is a beginner like me and gives some good advice. Maryann always was a chatterbox and Liz had to slow her down.
Like Mom, like daughter. My PBS station carried 3 episodes and now does no thave them. Bummer! Francesrose |
Mary tends to say uhhu or mhhhh too much!! I agree it must be nerves. She is a good quilter to learn from. being from the Younger generation she is brings some fresh perspective on quilting.

I asked the same question when I was in Winterset, Iowa in July. The clerk told me Fons and Porter was sold and Liz had moved to Texas to be near her Grandchildren. Karen from Grant, Iowa
|
BYUTV (Channel 289 on Comcast), Fons & Porter is on at 5:30 on most days. I set my recorder.
|
I love their magazine, but I never liked the show enough to follow it.
|
For those who do not have quilting shows in your area, (like me), there is QuiltersTV.com online. You can watch a show by different quilters listed, and you can watch it any time you want. And it is free!! There is another site also, but I have forgotten the name. Maybe someone else knows the site. Anyway, when you really need a "quilt jolt", you can try there. I know Fons and Porter has their shows online on their website (for a fee). Hope that helps!

Directv channel 374 at 5:30 pm Monday thru friday.
They have already started reruns after just starting on this channel a couple of monthes ago.

I have them on, every night at 6:30, on BYU (BRIGAM YOUNG UNIVERSITY channel........that is on DirecTV for me, but it might be on some other channel too.......also, on RFD, every Wed at 2:30 pm and again, just after midnight, I get Elenor Burns QUILT IN A DAY program (also on DirecTV)...
|
I agree with Edie. Give them time to improve. i do like learning with them.
|
The last I had heard the daughter was supposed to be doing her own seperate show for newer and younger quilters, It was approached like she would only be on with mom til she got the hang of doing the show. At that point I guess MaryAnn will continue the original show I'm hoping for occasional visits from Liz.

Not the same with out Liz! She was so calm! June in Cincinnati btw-- For $20 you can get internet access to all of the Fons and Porter videos through their website. Watch as much as you want for 12 months. I thought is was a bargain compared to what many of these sites are charging. |
I read that she has passed away. She will be sadly missed by the quilting world. Go to her website.

Yeah....I don't think it's a good idea to say someone has passed on without being able to show evidence....
Here is a link to Mary Fons (daughter of Maryanne) website: http://www.maryfons.com/blog/ she addresses the retirement and her participation with the series there. |

It's on their website in the story of the guy named Dave on the quilting board who quilted her last 4 quilts for her.

First of all--- here is the link Betty Jean is trying to give us, and then I've got a word for all to consider...
http://www.fonsandporter.com/aspx/fo...spx?pageid=259 I don't believe the "Liz" in the story is Liz Porter. First of all, unfortunately there is no date stamp on the story. The person telling the story shares that the funeral was held the day after Christmas, and yet BettyJean says the story was "on Dec. 23rd".....how could it even be about this year??? If the man doesn't even go meet the family until Christmas Eve?? Don't you think if Elizabeth Porter passed away, it would be acknowledged bold as day in plain site on the home page of the website?? Not buried somewhere and released by a relatively unknown business associate? I mean that wouldn't even be proper. I'm going to shoot and e-mail to the Fons n Porter website with a link to this thread and ask if they will clear this up! |
Okay--- I just sent customer service at the Fons and Porter website an e-mail with a link to this message board.
We shall wait and see.... and Betty Jean, I did not call you a liar. Rumors require confirmation before being passed off as fact, and that story does not indicate the death of Liz Porter as it is presented on that site. Further clarification is necessary. |
That is a really heartwarming story about Dave completing those quilts for a lady named "Liz" - BUT nowhere does it say that the lady was Liz Porter. I'm fairly certain that if Liz Porter had passed we would have heard about it, and not just an aside in a small quilting article. i think perhaps someone has misconstrued this story.
|
Okay---- I just opened up the response e-mail from customer service at the Fons and Porter website. (and might I add...that was a mighty quik response from them. Good customer service!)
Here it is-- with only my real first name removed: *******, in the 1601 series, we informed the viewers of Liz's retirement. If you would like to put all this information on the blog, please feel welcome to do this. After doing TV for many years, Liz has decided to retire. She is in her 60's and would like to spend more time with her family, travel more, and play more golf! Liz decided to move to Texas where she has family and the winters are warmer than Iowa. We sincerely miss Liz and wish her the best in her retirement and have an open invitation to her if she decides retirement isn't for her. Mary Fons has stepped in as a guest co-host and Marianne is greatly enjoying quilting with her daughter. We hope you enjoy the shows as much as we do. The story linked above was posted in another thread by a member of this board. The person who wrote the story is that member so no it is not Liz Porter and it wasn't from this year. I'll see if I can find the other thread.

Here is the thread:

If you have Dish Network you can catch "Fons and Porter" on ch.9403 on the BYUTV,at 5:30am and 5:30pm same program.
They did announce at the beginning of this season that Liz was retireing to spend more time with family. I feel that Mary is doing a pretty good job considering the shoes she has to fill, give her a chance, and it is always good to see mother and daughter sharing the same interest. |
I read Mary's blog and it kinda sounded like she was coming on to "save" the show, especially when she said it was already getting stale.
|
I went to Winterset Iowa this past summer and met a neighbor of Liz's who was working at the John Wayne Museum a couple of blocks from the Fons & Porter Shop. She said she retired to Texas to be close to her family.
