Just wondered what any of you know about Liz Porter not being on the show anymore. I sure miss her. Hope she'll be back again.

QuiltingHiker 12-20-2010 04:49 PM

I was wondering the same thing.

dkabasketlady 12-20-2010 04:52 PM

This has been discussed before. Liz has moved to Texas to be with family. Marianne's daughter is now on the show. It doesn't seem to be as good as when Liz was on, but it's an adjustment for all.

Greeter Eva 12-20-2010 05:01 PM

I guess I just don't like change.

LastGrandma 12-20-2010 05:16 PM

The F&P that was on in our area this Saturday had both Liz and Maryann on it. And it was a new episode...daughter-less.

amandasgramma 12-20-2010 05:42 PM

I saw that show and even though the tv schedule says it was new in 2010, I don't believe it is --- Liz and Maryann look a LOT younger....

amma 12-20-2010 05:55 PM

It could have been the very beginning of 2010 when they were finishing up taping their last season together :D:D:D

june6995 12-20-2010 05:56 PM

i saw my first Fons and Porter show on Sunday...without Liz. Oh my gosh. That girl never stopped talking and then both of them were talking at the same time. Reminds me of The View! Listening from another room makes one want to turn the TV off.

Not the same with out Liz! She was so calm!

i never saw any with liz and maryann (i'm a pretty new quilter). i would imagine it will take a while for the daughter to get over her nervous chattering. lets give her a chance. (and yes, she seems to talk nonstop)

Jim 12-20-2010 07:38 PM

First show that I saw without Liz back a few months ago...Marianne said that Liz had decided to retire and Marianne's daughter would be filling in.

texas granny 12-20-2010 07:40 PM

I heard this month that liz had moved to the Austin area or central Texas area if i hear more I will let you know

nycbgirl 12-20-2010 11:30 PM

I heard that Liz wanted to be closer to family. I always thought Maryann and Liz talked over each other! So this isn't such a big change for me. In any case I hope all is well and the show continues to be successful.

Maybe it is nerves on Mary's part - I know I talk nonstop when I am nervous. I like her because MaryAnn and Liz were so far advanced from me and I just couldn't pick up some of the stuff they were talking about, but I am learning all over again with Mary and MaryAnn. They just may fall into a really nice show. Edie

I prefer the videos on you tube or Missouri Star Co.

Nolee 12-21-2010 06:48 AM

Where are you seeing them? What channel? They aren't on here that I know of but if they were, I'd sure tune in.

I wondered what happened to her ... well the show won't be the same, I always liked Liz & her wry sense of humor
We visit Austin & the Hill country a lot, maybe we'll run into her at some of the LQS lol :)

If you have a search feature on your computer..............
enter "Youtube Quilting videos" or whatever it is you would like to view.........
You can find loads of videos. Just takes a minute to search.

Enjoy

They stated that Liz wanted to spend time with her grandkids. I am in Texas for the winter, does anyone know what channel they are on on Direct TV? Back in MO they are on Sat mornings at 9:30 PBS

Their show is on Public Television -- PBS, usually on the weekend.

jgriinke 12-21-2010 08:25 AM

I'm glad someone brough this up. I have my DVR set to tape all the episodes, and was wondering why the change. Now I know.
Thanks. I was hopping it wasn't health issues.
Merry Christmas to you all.
I have many more projects on my To Do list from looking at the wonderful quilts you all have made and shown. Thanks for the insperation.(spelling?)

RetiredDiva 12-21-2010 10:33 AM

I guess I can't handle change - and if it "ain't" broke, then don't fix it. Since I started quilting a few years ago, I've watched every quilting program I could find (mostly on PBS) and F&P made it fun and easy to learn. If Liz is trying to retire and is giving up the show she certainly is going to be missed, but I would rather see just Marianne go solo - with occasional guests then have Mary as co-host. Just my opinion.

davidwent 12-21-2010 10:38 AM

I am assuming this is a quilting show? I have been looking for one, so far the closest I have founf is sewing with Nancy. Could someone fill me in with te where and when?
Thank you!
David

I think it is fantastic that the daughter is following in mom's footsteps. They will do just fine. Enjoyed that show I saw with them both

Greeter Eva 12-21-2010 11:18 AM

Here in Saskatoon , they are on KSPS . F&P on Tues. 3:30 PM & Sewing w Nancy on Wed. at 3:30 PM.
On Sat. Sewing w Nancy at 5:30 AM & Quilt in a Day at 4:30 AM on WTVS. Don't know how much this will help.

Me too and I think Mary just needs time to relax. Liz and Marianne weren't so relaxed in the beginning either. And they made lots of boo boos that they tried to cover up. At least Mary admits to them.

inletjerry 12-21-2010 11:43 AM

Glad this subject came up for discussion. I have been sharing the same feelings about the daughter replacement. Her personalty seems rather overwhelming and you are right in that she talks over many times when it would be better to listen. I know that change is hard to accept, but I am trying. Hope I can conquer my acceptance. Merry Christmas to all my quilting friends.

ljordan1029 12-21-2010 11:57 AM

I saw this explained on a show about 2 weeks ago. I think she is still involved some with the show, but the excuse given was, she wanted to spend a lot of time with her Grand Children and other members of her family. I hope she enjoys the time off, I miss her being on the show. She was an excellant Teacher.

jad1044 12-21-2010 02:09 PM

My MIL told me one had retired - so it is only the other one still carrying on the show - not sure of anyone is joining her - as I never get to see the show - but loved it when I could watch it.

Hosta 12-21-2010 02:12 PM

I didn't know they split wow I wonder how that will affect the magazine

Otterhound 12-21-2010 02:19 PM

I noticed that Mary Ann never stops talking. I don't watch it much because of that fact.

duckydo 12-21-2010 02:37 PM

Lets face it, The daughter has some pretty big shoes to fill, and we all had to be new at something sometime or another in our lives. We do have to let the younger generation have a chance. She is doing the best she knows how. Merry Christmas to all.

quilt3311 12-21-2010 02:39 PM

I heard that she wanted to retire and spend more time with her family. I didn't know she moved, but I can understand wanting to be closer to ones kids.
I ended up close to DS#2. He bought the house across the street!!!!! Now at first I wondered if that was TOOOOOOO close, but its worked out wonderfully. AND he removes snow. and mows the yard. And he works for food--grin

Hattie 12-21-2010 02:43 PM

I was watching the show a couple of weeks ago and and Maryann said that Liz was not participating in the show any longer. She wants to spend more time with her family.

MissJMac 12-21-2010 04:22 PM

Fons and Porter's Love of Quilting - show airs weekly on local PBS channel. Here in Kansas City it plays 8:00 am on Saturday morning, followed by Sewing With Nancy. Check your local PBS Guide online.

I don't think we even get this show. Only Eleanor Burns as far as I know. She's hilarious.

mae 38 12-21-2010 04:51 PM

she wants to spend some time with her grandchildren

Longarm 12-21-2010 05:03 PM

On direct TV there are episodes of Fons & Porter every weekday at 6:30 am and 6:30 pm eastern time on the BYU channel 374. Some of these are older episodes without Mary Fons. Sorry, but she turns me right off, there is such a thing as listening and learning.

Eleanor Burns is on RFD channel 345 on Wed. at 2:30 and again after midnight, same program.

Hope this helps anyone who has Direct TV, I have no idea about Dish network but if do a search for quilting shows you might find something.

Longarm

ljordan1029 12-21-2010 05:08 PM

I was wondering how it would affect the show also. The guest that she has had on the program haven't been very impressive, and I'm easy to impress. Let's hope for the best for the show, perhaps it will get better.

jigsymom 12-21-2010 05:26 PM

I don't get to see the show here anymore. What quilting shows they do show are on at 7am and thats only when they don't have something else they would rather show at that time. cooking or traveling programs are more important that sewing or quilting I guess.
