The ghost took it!
Getting ready to sew on the last corner block of a guild round robin......all 4 blocks were ready to go...got down to sewing the fourth block and......i don't know where it went! All of them were on my cutting board the last time I was in my sewing room. i swore that they were there when I started to sew them....sigh.just want to get this done! Now i have to scrape up the scraps and hope that I have enough to re-make the now missing block.

Did you sew 2 blocks together in one corner?
|
Tapper may be right. I have sewn two together before too. Check your blocks.
|
That happens here, I claim its the mice who ate my scissors, measuring tape.. So funny, how things disappear before our very eyes.. Not to worry, think most of us have done same..
|
I hate losing something in my sewing room. Did you have anything else out at your table little fabric or quilt magazines? You might have picked it up when you put them away.
|
i bet you have two together
|
So you have children or animals in the house. Remember the dog who ate homework. You might have one that likes fabric. hehehehe! But, I bet you have sewn 2 together. (I've done it plenty of times). It will drive you crazy till you find it.
|
I've done it too -- then I think I'm losing my mind. I generally find it in some weird place! Hope you find it soon. Keep us posted.

As soon as you make a new one, it will show up. Let us know what happens.

I just did this a week ago with a pair of favorite scissors. Bearisgray asked if I'd checked my bra.... :D:D:D
Take a tea break and do something else for a while. It's probably sitting right in front of you. :) Jan in VA |
Could you have set something down on it - and when you picked the something up to move it, the last block went along?

I had it in my hands just a second ago, and someone had just been there, and I was sure they'd taken it. I was looking all over for it to make sure I didn't still have it, getting madder and madder as I was not finding it, and started slapping my hands down on my stuff on my desk to make sure it wasn't hidden under any paperwork. A coworker, noticing I was angrily searching my desk, asked me what I was looking for. I reached up and took my pen out of my mouth so I could explain.....oh. There it is! I was pretty embarrassed. Teach me to go jumping to conclusions... |

WOW! This idea has been repeated a few times in this thread. I would never think of this. I will look! Sandy |
All things being as they usually are, once you have struggled to make another block, you will find the missing one! Seriously, have you looked behind the sewing machine cabinet? I find things have slipped over the edge here. Anxious to hear if you've found the escaped block.
|
When I cannot find something, I try to remind myself that considering the size of the planet, my search area is rather small. It has to be someplace. I will keep my fingers crossed.

Do you have a cat? My kitty borrows blocks, strips, whatever from my sewing studio.
|
I have a quilt set aside right now because two blocks are missing. They are cut out and pinned together but disapered
Now I can't finish until I find them. |
I remember I had a brand new white dress with dots of blue and red throughout. I hung it on the door because I was planning to wear it to a mother-daughter tea my classroom was having (I was the teacher) the next day. When I went to get it there was a triangle about 6-8 inches big out of the bottom of the back of it. Our dog was a Samoyed/Shephard and White Collie mix. Several days later I found the missing piece mixed in with his poop in the back yard. No, I didn't sew it back in. I cut the dress hem evenly and added a solid navy blue border on the bottom so the dress was at least useful.

fmhall: That is the funniest thing I ever heard of. Is the big dog banned from your sewing space now?

I sent a new friend, from this board, four samples of fabrics to use in "Cottage Romance." I have found three of the four I sent, do you think I could find the fourth? I have torn my sewing room apart and am about to resume the search this morning. There are ghosts everywhere. Of course I have an out, I can ask my friend to send me a picture of the fabric she would like and that would be way too easy. Oh no, I have to find it by making a total mess of my stash. Think I'll go play with my mental blocks.
|
Do you have a kitty that like to play with the blocks?
|
This Quilting Board is addictive!!! I love it. I laughed so hard this morning at all the 'disappearing' things in sew rooms.
I do believe the ghost is probably related to my Hawaiian Menehune! |
I just want to clarify ... it was NOT me!! :D
|
I lost two blocks yesterday and after searching for hours, found them under the table just before I was ready to cut out two more--had all the fabric ready, too.
|
Oh, the missing block, missing bolt(!), missing panel, the lists goes on. LOL

I love it! All the innocent people on this board!! LOL
Not me, cried "Ghostrider" Not me, cried "Mousie" Who else among us is "innocent" of this deed?? |
I can see that you were visited by ghosts/gremlins - I have several living in my sewing area. That would have to explain why I can put something down, a block, a pair of scissors, rotary cutter, the list is endless, then when I go to find it, it has "flown the coup". I can only find it if I make another block or reach for another scissors, rotary cutter, whatever. I guess it's one of the "joys" of getting older. LOL. Just know that you are in good company and that when you make another block you will find the missing one - Murphy's Law of Quilting.

Well, we have NOT found the lost scissors in my case of missing items; but I guess I made Mother feel so bad she brought over her own pair to give me.
Now if those get away, too, we'll definitely know who the guilty party is!! :p (After years of mothers blaming it on 'the kids'. :D ) Jan in VA |
I feel your frustration. Happens to me more often than I want to admit

A similar thing happened to me. Never did find the missing block but I think I know what happened to it. The blocks were nicely stacked to the left of my sewing machine. Also on the left was my little waste can (aka: thread catcher). It's very possible that as I picked one of the blocks up, another one fell into the waste can. I discovered the block was missing after the garbage was picked up...
Now I check the waste can before tossing the contents into the household waste. Lesson learned. |
