It bothers me when I see remarks like, I make what I love and they should love it too. Do you like everything someone else does, would you want to display something that isn't your taste or that doesn't match the colors in your house? If you are making a quilt for someone else shouldn't you take the time to find out what they like? If you don't do that, then who are you making the quilt for? Not them, yourself maybe? Giving should be about reaching out, coming along side, encouraging someone and loving them where they are. Sorry if I offended anyone but it just had to be said.
For this quilt, it just sounds like they can't see the finished product. They have shown in the past that they appreciate your quilts you just caught them off guard with an unfinished product. Quilters have the vision before the project ever gets started, non-quilters need to see the finished piece. Some have expressed throwing them under the bus, pretty hasty decision in my humble opinion. |

Maybe they were excited, hoping to get another quilt from you for Christmas and when they couldn't have it that day, they were kind of let down. I bet when you give it to them, they will be excited!

I think we who are doing the giving should ask the givee what they want. If we have a limited budget then ask them if there is something with in your means that you could give. We as the giver have no right to expect any kind of reaction from the receiver, if we do, then we are not truly giving for them but for ourselves. If your reason for giving is to make you feel good then find a place to give to for that purpose. If your reason for giving is to make the other happy then be sure what you are giving is really what they want. We really have no right to have unrealistic expectations from others, shame on us when we do. |

I just had my Christmas get together with 2 of my non quilting friends. I made one a snowman wall hanging and the other placemats and napkins.
They both loved them. When I got home I had an email from the friend I made the placemats for. She wanted to tell me her husband thought they were beautiful. I suffer from SAD and depression. That was the perfect email it made my day.I |
Please remember that we quilt for the joy of it.we give for our pleasure not theirs. In time the recipient of a quilt will appreciate it, even if not at first.
