Which quilt shops can I just not miss???

Deb watkins 09-01-2009 07:01 AM

Zooks is probably the largest store, but since they are all on the main drag, and within walking distance of each other - I usually visit all of them!!

kwhite 09-01-2009 07:13 AM

How many is all??

Rose Hall 09-01-2009 08:37 AM

janedennis 09-01-2009 08:41 AM

I was there just last weekend. It was great but wish I had more money to spend. I liked Zooks the bestl.

k3n 09-01-2009 08:45 AM

Oh, oh k (hopping up and down and waving hands in air!!!) you couldn't make a small detour and pick me up on your way, could you? I'd LOVE to go there! And how great does that sound 'they're all on the main drag'! Go on tell, make me really jealous, how many are there? Sounds like paradise to me! Go early k and go in all of them! :D

k3n 09-01-2009 08:46 AM

PS - just looked at your link feline, WOW I wish there were places like that round here! :D

While you are there if you have time, you should check out the farmers market. YUMMMMMMMO

mic-pa 09-01-2009 10:56 AM

If you are going East on Route 30 and pass the big mall, about 1 mile (I am a poor judge of distance) there is a place called Dutchland Quilt Patch. They have gifts on the 1st floor and fabulous fabric on the second level. It is on the left hand side of the road. There is also several other shops in the ares (not fabric) like woodworking things etc. Enjoy your trip. Also if you are up around Lititz there is a place called Weavers just outside of Litiz on Route501 north. They have excellent prices. Marge

trupeach 09-01-2009 11:48 AM

Oh if you are there on a weekend/Saturday drive the back roads for yard sales. Many years ago I was there and found a lovely vintage blue and white quilt, I didn't buy it and always wish I had.

wvdek 09-01-2009 11:53 AM

Here I am (the hitch hiker with thumb out) Please please come get me. I am only 5 hours from where you will be (I think).
Gosh this sounds like fun. Let us know all about your hop.

ROFLMAO! More than half a dozen? More than a dozen? I don't actually know, but I'm sure I saw at least half a dozen on my way to The Old Country Store in Intercourse (which is a town in Lancaster, along with Bird-in-Hand and others).

Ya know, all of you who want to go with her, we could plan this out for a couple of days next summer. We could meet each other and shop and get a group rate on a good place to stay and eat Amish food and quilt and quilt and quilt and quilt...

wvdek, I don't know where you are in WV, but I do know it's 5 hours from Parkersburg, WV to Philly, and Lancaster is at least an hour closer, so only 4 hours from Parkersburg. Quite close, really! :D

Barbm 09-01-2009 01:42 PM

I wanna go too (whining and sulking with my head down and hands behind my back, bottom lip stuck out).

Next year- a trip- that's cool. I'm about 2 or 2 1/2 hrs. from lancaster. Easy road trip for me. :)

kwhite 09-01-2009 01:52 PM

Yeah that is how far I ma from it too. DH told me he has to work on Monday so now I am not sure if I am going or not.

quilter1962 09-01-2009 02:52 PM

K

Send Marcia a PM she's just come back from Lancaster this past weekend. She will know where to advise you to go as I know she bought loads of fabrics when she went.

Oh BTW can you nip over the pond & collect me too PLEASE!!!!!!!

ENJOY

Tisha

mic-pa 09-01-2009 04:19 PM

Most of the Amish stores are closed on Sundays and since Monday is a holiday they might not be open then either. Just wondering?? You might want to call ahead and make sure. Marge

kwhite 09-01-2009 06:07 PM

Yeah I think I will call. Thanks

May in Jersey 09-01-2009 06:49 PM

Zook's is always top of my list whenever I'm in the Lancaster area. Country Store is across the road from Zook's, maybe a block or two awat, kind of right across from that big parking lot. Zook's is always less expensive but Country Store has lots of batiks at good prices.

I keep reading this thread just to make myself pout and stamp my foot because I CAN'T GO!!! If you do go K, will you show us all the lovely stuff you buy? Then I can get at least SOME vicarious pleasure!

peel

kwhite 09-05-2009 07:17 AM

I think this trip is going to be a big bust. No one is open on Sunday and that is the only full day I will be there. I am not finding too many that I can visit.

amandasgramma 09-05-2009 07:28 AM

OH HECK!!!! I got all excited when I saw this! We're going south this winter --- we'll be 85 miles from Lancaster ------Lancaster California, that is!!!! When you started mentioning highways I'd never heard of, I realized you're in Lancaster, PA!!!!!!

oh well -- HAVE FUN!

Lisanne 09-05-2009 08:33 AM

Tisha and k3n, you two kill me! If I had a choice between Lancaster, PA and England or France, I'd be on your side of the pond with not even a regret! Ah well, I suppose I can understand.

Is anyone good at planning these things? I cannot honestly commit to anything until I'm employed again.

Barbm 09-05-2009 08:39 AM

I'm with you Lisanne! Plane tickets- now!

As we get closer to spring and summer- let's watch the happenings. I have no problem calling for hotels, etc. And picking up people at airports or bus terminals. I'm 2 1/2 hrs. away and would drive down for the week end or Fri/Sat if things are closed on Sunday.

Ninnie 09-05-2009 08:41 AM

So, K, you are on your way now!!
Hope you have agreat time and buy lots of material to make us green with envy.

kwhite 09-05-2009 09:08 AM

i am leaving in an hour. I think I may only make it to two at the most since NO ONE is open tomorrow.

Dix 09-05-2009 05:58 PM

Have a great trip. We went to Bird in Hand two years ago and Rochester N.Y. We are going to Lima, Oh and to Shipshawana in 2 weeks.

SSTeacher 09-06-2009 06:05 PM

Zooks is great and good prices. If you want to get some good buys (but watch for "flaws" on the really inexpensive bolts--like $2.00/yd., go to Sauders. If you go in Zooks, they are a "sister shop" and they have directions. It is not "in Lancaster" but near an entrance to the PA Turnpike. It is worth the trip. They have some good sales and also good buys for backing material. It is just a quaint place. We are going to Lancaster in Nov. Sue

I guess the grass is always greener on the other side of the pond!

Can't wait to hear how kw got on and more importantly - see piccs of the lovely FABRIC she bought! :D

SSTeacher 09-07-2009 02:43 AM

Lisanne: Where in central PA are you? I am from Shamokin, PA (about 70 mi. N or Harrisburg). Most people here in VA kind of "smile" when I say I am from Shamokin. :D My husband walks around the quilt shops with outstretched arms, just waiting for bolts to be placed on them.

Barbm 09-07-2009 04:46 AM

SS- Shamokin PA- a hop, skip and a jump from me- just above Wilkes-Barre, in Lehman. neat.

Could you find somewhere else for him to "entertain" himself (like a hardward store, or a TV shop  )? I know how it is when DH comes into my kind of shop with me.

SSTeacher 09-07-2009 06:48 AM

Wow, Barbm--that is close. I love to hear from people close to my hometown. Sue

SSTeacher 09-07-2009 02:17 PM

Peel: The name of the other quilt shop is Sauders. It is near Burkholders.

Marcia 09-07-2009 04:22 PM

I am so sorry that I did not see this thread before K left for Lancaster this weekend. I was just there the last Thursday in August and I went to The Country Store, Zooks, Sauders, and Burkholders. And boy, did I buy a lot of fabric!!! I could have given her directions to all the shops.

K, I hope you had a great time-----let us know how your trip was.......
