I am mainly a lurker here, but I had to tell you all what I seen in our walmart today :-D .
They are remodeling our Super center right now, removed the fabric dept . so I thought it would be just like our other Super center, just have a few craft items.
But NO...They have a wall here with single fatquarters, 12 coordinated fatquarters in a bundle, jellyrolls charmpacks, coordinated sets where you can make a whole quilt, fabric for totes and purses.and it is pretty fabric, flannels an 108 wide muslin in 3 yard bundles. I think everybody heard me yelling yeehaw  They have all kinds of coordinated fabric, better than before, the cutest baby prints, very modern prints and everything in between.
I just wanted to let you all know that somebody did listen to us. :-D Christina

cjomomma 05-18-2010 02:21 PM

Lucky you. Ours still has fabric just down sized. That would bring me out of lurking too.

amma 05-18-2010 02:22 PM

That is awesome :D:D:D

Olivia's Grammy 05-18-2010 02:54 PM

None of the Walmarts in my area carry fabric of any size.

MoMoSews 05-18-2010 02:56 PM

Green with envy

kygirl 05-18-2010 02:59 PM

So glad for you, ours downsized and moved to the back corner.

Sharon321 05-18-2010 03:05 PM

I found a cute blue and green jelly roll for 4.97 at my Walmart.

sharon b 05-18-2010 03:07 PM

Woo Hoo for you  Did you get any ?

Just got 2 little fat quarters, brown with red and pink dots. Don't know why, just had to have them  .I have a whole closet full of fabric and finally said enough is enough(except 2 little fat quarters)...but there is a tote pattern with leopard and turquoise fabric there, which is calling my name :D ,I have never made one before.
I forgot to say earlier, they are still working on the fabric wall.I didn't see any batting but that doesn't mean they wont have any once they get done remodeling
Christina
oh and the fatquarters are from Cranston Villiage

Sharon321 05-18-2010 04:44 PM

I did buy one jelly roll.

Gramof6 05-18-2010 05:12 PM

cinnya where in SW Oklahoma is this WalMart? I may have to make a road trip. Thanks for posting this. I love the fabric you have shown.

cinnya 05-18-2010 05:19 PM

It is in Lawton, on Quanha Parker Trailways. The walmart on Sheridan road doesn't have it.
you can't beat those fat quarters for $1.00. I wish I could remember more prices. I know the jelly rolls were $10.00 and I think the bundle of coordinated fabric was $12.00

Dina 05-18-2010 05:30 PM

Oh cool, I live south of Lawton in Texas. Next time I head to Joann's, I'll have to make sure I get to this Wal-Mart too!! Thanks for the news!

cinnya 05-18-2010 05:38 PM

LOl Dina we might pass each other on the interstate. We go to Wichita Falls to go shopping ,because we don't have a Kohls or Target....YET :-(

roseOfsharon 05-18-2010 05:44 PM

aww, the material is nice :) and great news of your WalMart adding a new section and keeping fabrics!

Melinda in Tulsa 05-18-2010 05:47 PM

That is fantastic news. I wonder if any WM's in the Tulsa area will do this.

cinnya 05-18-2010 05:57 PM

Melinda, this Supercenter was build only 5 years ago. They remodeled our other Walmart last year and did not include this fabric. I talked to a clerk and she said that they remodel every 5 years and this was their newest remodel. So hopefully as your Walmarts get remodeled it will include the fabric.
I think it will all depend what the response from the shoppers will be.

cinnya 05-18-2010 06:05 PM

Sharon ,do you have the fabric in your store? I know they used to have jellyrolls for 19.97 and marked those really down when they did away with the fabric dept. I think the new jellyrolls they have are not as big as the last ones.
I need to go back and make some notes :-D

reach for the stars 2 05-18-2010 06:06 PM

That's better then our Walmart

How far are you from other fabric stores. That is fantastic for you. Our super WM did away with all fabric, but kept a few crafting supplies. But office supplies is sorely lacking as other areas. I guess they had to cut some areas to add the grocery section, but I've not heard one person here say they like the super WM. I used to go to our old WM at least several times a week and knew where everything was. Now I do my best to avoid that area. :-(

Sharon321 05-18-2010 07:36 PM

cinnya, Yes, we have some fabric. The jelly rolls were originaly 19.97. This is the Walmart in Mesquite at 80 and Beltline Rd.

cinnya 05-18-2010 07:44 PM

Betsy, we have a Joanns, Hobby Lobby and 2 quilting stores, so If I need to buy fabric from a bolt, there are places I can get it.
The only drawback I see about the fabric in walmart, you have to make sure you get enough of the precut fabric for your project.

cinnya 05-18-2010 07:51 PM

Sharon it sounds like they are getting ready to remodel your store. That's how it started here ,they marked down the fabric and it seems it was no time, before the dept was empty.
the clerks all said that once the fabric is gone that they wouldn't carry it anymore. That is why I was so surprised when I walked into the store this afternoon

raptureready 05-18-2010 08:22 PM

CAUTION!!!! Jelly rolls at Walmart aren't like jelly rolls at the fabric store. Sometimes the cut is off and the fabrics selections are weirder. A friend of mine bought some and found that she'd have one strip of one fabric and maybe 3 or 4 of the next one. Not that I wouldn't use them, just saying "buyer beware", know what you're getting. I will add that my friend made a beautiful quilt top from hers it just took a bit more thought.

1quilt_gma 05-19-2010 12:48 AM

Could this be a coming trend? Or maybe a trial run for future possibilities? Great news.

mimee4 05-19-2010 05:14 AM

That is reassuring news. Our WalMart still has nice fabric and lots of it.

mrsalshhadeh 05-19-2010 05:21 AM

the walmart near m e has done away with their favric section,,, needless to say I m very sad by this,, now it is so hard t get fabric here in Puerto Rico. I guess the warm weather makes people wonder if they need quilts,,, I am hoping I can sweet talking my mother to send me care packages!!!lol.. Like when I was deployed,, but not food,, but QUILTING SUPPLIES!!!! lol..

Jingle 05-19-2010 05:22 AM

I don't need anymore fabrics either but, wouldn't stop me. I would have bought a bunch to let them know I would be buying more of it.

racnquilter 05-19-2010 06:48 AM

Cinnya, I too am from the area, Walters, work at FS. Go to Duncan WM to shop occasionally, yesterday in fact, and they still have the fabric dept. Was glad since WM has some interfacing that I love to use in purses and wallets that Joann's doesn't have. I bought 5 yards yesterday. And couldn't resist a few other fabrics, LOL.

cinnya 05-19-2010 06:58 AM

What a small world.I have friends in Walters.I live just north of Lawton, by Lake Lawtonka, and I work in the Tire industry LOL, you know what that is ,I think.
You have to excuse my english ,I was born and raised in Germany and even after all those years I still type with an accent. :D
you have to go and check out those purse pattern ad fabric in this walmart. really pretty. I am thinking about getting the leopard and turquoise fabric to make one.....I like to live on the wild side LOL

cinnya 05-19-2010 07:23 AM

I thought I should change my avatar. I know some of you Ladies from Facebook.

sahm4605 05-19-2010 07:55 AM

I am really jelious. I was at mine yesterday and they said that they were all getting rid of the fabric departments. I think that the older lady doesn't know the whole truth. but that is just me. I would make an effort to keep buying from them.

racnquilter 05-19-2010 08:02 AM

Cinnya, that is cool!! No matter, my MIL is German, although she has been a US Citizen for probably 52 years now, she still has the accent and I sometimes have to figure out what she is trying to say. My husband's BIL works at the same tire industry you speak of.

stitchinwitch 05-19-2010 08:38 AM

WHAT???????????????????????Are they bringing fabric back to your store??? What a surprise!!! Great!!

cinnya 05-19-2010 09:42 AM

well not the fabric on the bolt.It is all precut, but it really is nice :-)

Unfortunatly, they are still in the process of removing the fabric dept here in the Tulsa area. The one on Kenosha and 145th has gotten the ax. All the Wal Marts near me have long discontinued fabric. I was in Hancocks on Monday, been a couple months since I was in there and was shocked at how high the prices had gone up. WM has removed any competative pricing.

cinnya 05-19-2010 09:48 AM

this is what happened here ,they removed the fabric and than about 1 month later they started the remodel and than yesterday here it was :-D
I wish I could go and take some pictures for you all, but I am afraid they would arrest me.LOL

CarrieAnne 05-19-2010 11:50 AM

Oh, NICE! I was just in ours and there wasnt much!

ekbuckeye 05-19-2010 01:15 PM

Our WM is remodeling and I did see the precuts. Some are really cute, not too bad fabric, and reasonably prices. The charms and jelly rolls only have several cuts of the same few prints, tho. I have been thinking about trying one of the bag kits.

MrsAlshadah, when we were stationed at Roosevelt Roads, I remember how hard it was to buy quilting fabric! There was one small shop in Caguas that had a few cottons, and Walmart, but most of the shops only had fancy stuff.

CajunQuilter2 05-19-2010 03:16 PM

From my understanding that is what they were suppose to do when they took out the fabric departments but most of the wal-marts did not do that. Just concerned about the quality of the fabric. How is it?
