The lip ruler is probably the Olipfa ruler, 5x18" or 5x24" long. It has a small ledge on one end, underneath the ruler so that as you line it up along a straight table edge or the edge of your cutting mat, it acts as a barrier to keep the ruler from sliding. Gives you straighter cuts because the ruler tends not to slip when you are cutting long (such as 18-22") cut strips. It works like a t-square would for engineers. Walmart, Joannes and other chain places carry them.

Graet deal!

I can't remember ever seeing an Olfa ruler at a thrift store or a goodwill store. Maybe people don't toss them out very often. Or maybe I am always too late. LOL.

I have one too and love it! Has a small crack in it, but hard to find a replacement, so I'm gonna keep it as long as possible.

mdall: Have you ever used a large t-square? If so, you know how there is a lower ridge on the one end so that you can snug it up to whatever you are working on? Most other rulers have a completely flat surface on both sides. With this ruler, you can "hook" it to the edge of your cutting matt and then just line up your measuring lines for rotary cutting your fabric. You don't have to worry about it moving around. It's 24" long and 5" wide. Mine is about 12 years old already and I wouldn't trade it for ANYTHING!

Here's a link to the one that amazon sells. Mine is a lot older, and slightly different, but same concept for the lip to hold it snug to your cutting matt.

Lucky you! Our Goodwill doesn't have anything useful. It's like the 4th weekend of somebody's moving sale. lol

I love thrift stores, you never know what you will find. I have found several pieces of fabric that looked brand new. Another thing to look for which is not quilting related is gift bags. They are a lot cheaper than buying them brand new. I look for them every time I go. Haven't bought a gift bag in two years.

What a great buy. Where am I when these deals come around...I did pick up some quilt books when one of the churches in town had their annual indoor/outdoor sale. I always head right over to the "craft" area.

Great find. Thrift stores are so hit or miss, depending on who is donating what and who gets there first, but to me that is part of the fun. I have three thrift stores on my "beaten path" so I check in often. Most times nothing, but every once in a while there is something good and it makes the hunt worthwhile.
