Great find of the week!!!
I found 21 blocks, hand pieced and all complete. At a flea market run by the VFW. Gave a whopping $5 for them all. Trying to figure out how to arrange them in a top. Very unusual fabrics, figure they are from the 60's by some of the fabrics. Doesn't matter to me.....I just loved them and had to have them. They are 10.5 to 11 inches each.

What a lucky day you had, show use what you make with them.

Very unusual and interesting. I love the points. Let us know how you decide to proceed.
Wonderful find!
Do you think I should sash them, and if so with what to bring them all together.... Will leave it on the wall for a couple of days and see what jumps out at me. Does anyone know what the pattern is called?
Great find!!!!!
Very nice find! The name I have seen for that pattern is Crossed Canoes.

I'd do one of two things-------------find a color to do a sash-----------maybe the pink or the black. Or separate them out into a 3 or so color groups. Then use the blocks for a center motif and add more colors around sort of like borders. I |
Nice find! I'd frame them, maybe with a neutral or a color that works well with all the fabrics. Then square all of them up to the same size and add a small sashing. Should make a really nice quilt.

Fons and Porter called this "Crossed Canoes." They did an episode on this pattern a few months ago. (Have it on the DVR) Awesome find. Have fun with them.
Somebody did a great job of hand-piecing. Lucky you!
I love the fact that they are hand sewn. I am happy for you.
They are fabulous!
Look at the link here to see how gorgeous those blocks can look without sashing as well.

crossed canoes is the pattern.

Awesome find

Very cool. I wonder who made them...and why they remained a UFO. Clearly she knew her stuff! (Note my gender bias!)
What about a narrow black sashing?
What a great find.
I made that pattern. Fons and Porter had it in their Love of Quilting magazine sept/oct 2011 called Crossed Kayaks and they had sashing between the blocks. The border also carrying the colors over. You could probably try the internet to see how they did it. Great find. I have been working on mine for awhile doing it if red/black fabric with a black sashing and border
What a find. I too would have snapped them up. Love to get old blocks at flea markets or auctions.
Very nice blocks. Have fun with them.
Lucky you, I like these blocks. Isn't this pattern called something like "Crossed Canoes" ?
Beautiful blocks... love the black and white ones!
Great find and very pretty

Great find! Lucky you!

Great find!

I 'found' blocks at Goodwill. I couldn't figure out how to use them either. Then I saw a pattern for 'on point.' So..I sashed all the blocks and put them 'on point' and they turned out great. You might consider this option. Let us see when you do get it finished.

Have fun experimenting with placement. I focused in on the fabric because of the unique originality. Some I recognize. The black and white polka dots brings back pictures in my mind of a lady in a full skirted dress with a black hat. It's like a walk down memory lane looking at those fabrics. Great pick.

I think a dark sash... and try moving the one in the lower right to one of pink canoes on the next row...there are two with abutting corners. The tan in the corner is blah.

I think sashing would really set them apart and give some balance to the blocks Nice find Be sure to share when the quilt is done, Anxious to see how you put your own twist to them.

Fantastic rescue!!! You are a lucky ducky for sure!!
They are great. :)

What a great find. Putting it on the design wall is the best way of figuring it out. . I would sash too since the fabrics are all different. And look at sashing colors you wouldn't normally think of, I have one quilt I used a navy pindot with and another that I used brown with. Neither color was really in the quilt. Its what brings it together. Try a deep green maybe or a shade of grey. or maybe a burgandy color. I make strips and hang them with the blocks . I start out with about 10 and narrow it down as I pass by. :-) Good luck it will be gorgeous

I have paper pricing pattern for this! Could see these in a great quilt!

Very pretty. J J

Wow, you are a lucky one indeed. I love the pattern and the variety of colors. Please post a "finished" picture when you decide how you want them placed.
