Love the quilt and I also use gutermann thread and love it.

VERY BEAUTIFUL QUILT!!! LOTS OF WORK, BUT WELL WORTH IT. I'VE USED THE GUTERMANN BRAND OF THREAD AND LIKE IT MUCH!!!
Beautiful quilt. I have used Gutterman thread in my bobbin and on top of both my regular sewing machine and my HQ and had no problems Works good.

Gutterman thread is one of the highest quality threads out there. I wait for the 50% off sales to purchase. I have used it for over 10 years and have never had a problem. I am sure you will be pleased with the results.
It is the only thread that I use. I love the colors and so nice to quilt with as I hand quilt.
I love Gutermann thread esepecially the large spools. A much better bargain when you can get them for half price. I hate running out of thread. My machine likes it too.
Love the colors, love the thread. I always like to quilt with varigates when I can. You can use a thread in your bobbin that better matches your backing, just be sure the weight is the same as the top thread or you might have problems.
I am using Gutterman thread for hand quilting right now. It is great and doesn't tangle.
Have you ever used BOTTOM LINE for the bobbin thread? It is a very fine thread and just seems to melt into the fabric. I have used a neutral color on several machine quilted quilts and it blends in so well. Since it is so fine your bobbin holds LOTS and requires less stops for refilling. |
Love Gutterman, just use the same wt thread in the bobbin, your good to go.
I've used Guttermann with good results. I would think your bobbin thread should be the same weight, and I would use a color close to your variegated (maybe ivory or pale gold) so you don't have "polka dots" where you quilt.
Here is a link to your thread on Amazon.com. They say:
"Variegated Natural Cotton Thread. 100% mercerized natural cotton in fabulous variegated shades to coordinate with the solid range of natural cotton thread. This jumbo spool is perfect for bigger projects and can be used in hand and machine sewing projects. 876 yd spool."-They don't list the weight. I would assume it is a 50 wt. I don't think I would hand quilt with it unless I used beeswax. Good Luck http://www.amazon.com/Natural-Cotton.../dp/B00275V9MY |
Gutterman has been around a long time. It's one of the better quality threads.
Sorry for the double-- lagging post time!
i use it like it...
I like the varigagated one... i have a few.. kinda of expensive... though... |
I use Gutermann thread and love it. Not sure if I would try another thread at this point. Love your quilt.
Great Quilt! LOl as I picked up the same color yesterday at Hancocks with the sale. we use a different thread in the bobbin but depends on your machine. Love gutteernans variegated threads.

Awesome quilt!!! I just bought a spool of Gutermann thread to try and will be doing that this weekend. I have usually used Mettler, but that has become hard to find in my area.
I too have always used Gutermans andI love it i don't use anything else. I also buy from JoAnns when on sale for 1/2 off or use 1/2 off coupon. I love your quilt, its absolutley beautiful
I have a Janome machine on a frame for quilting and a Viking for my tabletop piecing and I use Guterman thread for both. I use it for both top and bobbin. I clean the bobbin of lint after each bobbin change just to make sure it doesn't build up. I like it (and your quilt is gorgeous!!).
I have tried Gutterman using it on two different models of Bernia sewing machines and I was unhappy with the result so discontinued using it. I like Prescenia (spelling)when I can afford it. I use Aurifil, Mettler, and King Tut which my two machines seem to like also. Just my opinion. Kelela

OK I just had a problem with a thread and for piecing you need a 60wt 2 ply cotton. I have found all threads are not the same and can be pricey too! This type of thread is the best of the best for piecing!
Your quilt is beautiful. I use Mettler,Gutterman and Maderia thread. I use the same thread in my bobbin that I sew with. My sewing machine dealer, says never buy Coats and Clark as it is cheap thread. That is their opinion.I do use Coats and Clark sewing machine quilting thread. I think it is a matter of what your machine does with each kind. If the thread keeps breaking then change it to something a little heavier. My opinion, Matter of preference.
Have not use the Gutterman thread but your quilt is just beautiful!!
Beautiful quilt. You did a marvelous job.
I use a lot off gutterman it is a very good tread, love your
beautiful quilt. |

I'VE NEVER USED GUTTERMAN THREAD. I DO LIKE THE STAR THREAD. YOU QUILT IS STUNNING AND THE COLORS ARE GLORIOUS. YOU SHOULD MAKE A MASTER PATTERN AND SHARE OR SELL IT. I FOR ONE WOULD BE INTERESTED IN MAKING THAT DESIGN........
I am OK with Guttermann, but my sewing repair shop (for my Viking) says that it flakes off and gets into the machine and isn't good for it. I still use what I have but unless I can't get a color I want I buy other brands.
I love this thread. it is all I use. My machine repairman said never use C&C. Its what keeps them in buisness
Hi, I just had a problem with Guterman variegated thread on my Bailey quilting machine. Apparently variegated thread has a twist to it and if you have a stitching problem with it, turn the spool over and see if that works. For me, I had to use a size 18 needle to get it to work and I found it very linty.
I like Guterman thread.

Beautiful quilt.I use Rassant.
I use Gutterman thread all the time and love it. I also have used Connecting Threads and it is also good thread. Your quilt is beautiful
Gutterman works great. It is recommended to use with my Viking. I also use connecting Thread and have not had any problem with it on the Kenmore.

I am gonna use it in the top shown as I think it will blend well. Soo, I have a few questions..
1) Can I use my normal quilting thread for the bobbins? 2) What is everyones experience with this brand? Any problems I should be aware of? |
I generally use Gutterman. Or King Tut, and Mettler. C&C gums up and not good on the machine. When you spend all the time and money on your quilt, you need to use good thread. Luv your quilt.

No problems on my Brother machine nor with making yo-yo's, less coming apart
