This is somewhat expensive, but here is a site where they sell a tool that has the extra amount figured into your cutting for you.
http://www.guidelines4quilting.com/ Lots of the other suggestions sound good too. Cindy |
I do a lot of screaming then they sit in a box til I have enough scraps to do a Scrap Quilt --Problem solved But I have noticed if the HST starts as 7 1/2x7 1/2 or larger I don't have the screaming memes and 99% of them little buggers turn out perfect

I thought I would just cut them a bit smaller with a template, but it gets stuck on the join of all four centers and moves all around and I can't cut accurately around it.
What in the world am I doing wrong? I have done them over and over and they just don't turn out the right size. Suggestions? Hope this is what you were asking for. :-) |
I too agree with the scissor queen. I just chain them and cut them in half. No aggravation, no crazy squares.

I use Thangles.

The rule is to add 7/8ths of an inch but you can add an inch or even an inch and a quarter and the square them up to perfect.

I use Triangulations and no headaches. Also have some Thangles around the house somewhere that are also useful. TIP: if you need to trim HST's don't open them up first, that way you only have two sides to cut.

I also have the June Taylor ruler, and love it for drawing the lines. |
That is even better than my way. Larger squares.
