gatha here. I always quilt with a double thread. I think that it makes a stronger quilt.

The thread has a tendency to twist as we stitch. Every once in a while I grasp the thead near the quilt and let the thread and needle dangle. It will untwist itself. I use the beeswax too. Won't quilt without it.

And I always use a single thread. I was told by a seamstress years ago that double thread is not stronger. Just more visible and more apt to catch and be broken. A single thread melds with the fabric more.

I always use only single thread when I hand quilt...

You use a single thread just be sure it is hand quilting thread not machine quilting thread because hand quilting is stronger.

Quilting thread is stronger and has a waxed coating to keep it from fraying. I think mettler has one of the best.
Only one strand.

single for me.

Supposedly, double thread will rub aggainst itself and wear -- maybe just an old wives tale, but I always use single.
