.....quilt with single or double thread? I've looked at some Amish quilts and I can't tell if they use a single thread or a double thread.

Single, I always use quilting thread.
Single thread.
Yep, single Hand quilting thread. Check to see, there is machine quilting thread too. You can use it, just harder to use.
I always use single hand quilting thread.
Single, hand quilting thread.
single.

I want to say single. I used hand quilting thread for Hancock fabric or Wal-Mart, which is durable.
Single thread. Hand quilting thread is heavier weight. Usually 40 (as opposed to standard piecing thread which is usually 50 or 60) but I have a handquilting thread that is 35. This may be why you think some of these Amish quilts may be double thread but traditional is a single strand.

I use a single thread when I am sewing the binding on quilts. I used to do double until I was told that I could use single. I hadn't a clue.
Isn't it always single thread?

Single thread...I use hand quilting thread and still have trouble with tangles. I have tried using bee's wax on the thread and that helps some. Any other suggestions?

Single thread cut 18 to 20 inches long Get Thread Heaven it comes in a little blue box you can find it at JoAnns with the quilting notions. I helps to keep the tread from tangeling.
I have been a hand quilter for about 4 years. I use handquilting thread from Joann's. Also the bees wax......I am very pleased
Happy Quilting to everyone. |
Single. I've never heard of anyone using double?
yes single.
Single, hand quilting thread, and I usually use Thread Heaven or beeswax to keep the tangling problem at a minimum and I think it makes the thread easier to pull through.
Single hand quilting thread also.

I used double on my first and only quilt (to date) but only because I was going for a specific look - large, childish, cartoony. Everything everywhere I've ever found indicates single thread is appropriate and preferred.
