I love to handquilt - it is very relaxing. I do some machine quilting as well, but really enjoy the hand quilting more.

I hand quilt too. I wouldn't mind trying machine quilting, but I've never had a machine capable of it. Here are some pics of some hand quilting that I posted on the QB awhile back. (I have a different avatar since I posted it)

I use to hand quilt all of my quilts and then wanted to learn FMQ. Haven't hand quilted in awhile but am doing that with my 1930's print quilt. For some reason I just couldn't get the machine to do what I wanted so decided this one needed that extra attention. You're right that hand quilting adds that special touch no machine can give.

I prefer hand quilting, but due to a neck and shoulder injury several years ago am unable to do so. Can do small quilts but takes a long time. Very glad to have a quilter and sometimes takes me longer on the quilter because I have to stop and start often.
Enjoy your hand quilting! Wish I could. delma |
I love to hand quilt and have not done any machine quilting unless you consider doing decorative stitching on mug rugs machine quilting. I did a queen size whole cloth for my daughter as a wedding present, not sure if I would tackle that big of a project again.

Hand Quilting is my one anti-stress thing I do, I can't wait to get it to that point. But one thing is to make
sure you have a comfortable thimble, and when you put the needle in make sure it is straight up and down each time you go in and out, that will help make small stitches. Just think of it as a small running stitch.. then you won't feel so intimidated by doing it yourself. |
I hand quilt, look up my

I also handquilt, and have for over 40 years. That is the thing I love the most about making a
quilt. The only thing is , it takes time!! so inevitabily I have a backlog of quilt tops, basted in and waiting. But that's okay. I doabout 5 or 6 lg bed size a year, depending on how many baby quilts, wall hangings etc I squeeze in there. I am retired tho and can spend about as much time as I want..on what I want. I realize many have other obligations. |
