Do the Harbor Freight blades fit the Martelli rotary cutter

Raggiemom 01-11-2011 05:55 AM

I was wondering the same thing as I was planning to buy the Martelli cutter.

CoyoteQuilts 01-11-2011 06:06 AM

If I could find my Martelli I'd let you know..... I do know that I have had my Martelli for a couple years, use it occasionally, and have never put a new Martelli blade in it. I have only used Olfa blades (cheaper with Jo-anns coupons) in all of my cutters. The HF blades fit in my other cutters, so am assuming that they will fit the Martelli.

My cutter is a Fiskars, and wondering if they would fit it? Does anyone know?

MIne is a Sullivan's and they fit.

Tink's Mom 01-11-2011 07:50 AM

I have been wondering myself...
I should change the blade in mine, but this isn't a good day for me. I am having a droppsy day...spilled coffee while trying to make a pot, dropped and broke a dish, dropped the jar of jam...not a good day for playing with a blade

Yes they do, I use the Martelli and they fit just fine.

pennijanine 01-11-2011 12:28 PM

They also fit the Fiskar and Olfa cutters.

Deborah12687 01-11-2011 12:38 PM

I just purchased a Olfa cutter and I like there blades. I stopped buying from Harber Freight as some of the blades were dull when I purchased them and also stopped buying from Walmart for the same reason.

ncsewer 01-11-2011 01:16 PM

Yes!! I just changed my Martelli blade this morning and fit just fine.

kbs 01-11-2011 01:18 PM

Wait til tomorrow to work with a blade.

laurac 01-11-2011 05:14 PM

don't forget to pick up a magnetic dish for your pins while you're there. price is about $3 and its metal. they also have inexpensive magnetic pickups.

sewweary 01-12-2011 03:59 AM

I use them in my fiskars all the time. They are cheap enough to change if they don't cut well.

quilt3311 01-12-2011 04:33 AM

Yes they fit in the Martelli, sure lots cheaper than the company blades.

juliea9967 01-12-2011 05:11 AM

Harbor Freight blades? I just went to the Harbor Freight website and can't find rotary blades. Do they call them something else. It sounds like they are cheaper, and that is what I like!

Bonita1 01-12-2011 05:22 AM

Look for them as "carpet cutter blades" at Harbor Freight

IBQLTN 01-12-2011 05:46 AM

When I bought my Martelli cutter I was told the blade would last one year and the same for the replacement blades.

I'm still on my original blade 4 years later but don't use it all the time as I am a 'switch hitter' and bought the left handed version of Martelli because that is my dominate hand.

Now that I have the rotating rotary mat I will probably use the Martelli more often.

juliea9967 01-12-2011 06:05 AM

ibequilting1 01-12-2011 06:37 AM

Great thanks for the information.

theifner 01-12-2011 07:49 AM

I have never been able to find the "carpet cutter blades"

longlake 01-12-2011 07:56 AM

What is the part number for the ratary blade from HF?
I have been looking at the local HF and cannot find them there or online.

They are called rotary carpet cutters...I bought a whole bunch and have only changed them once...very inexpensive even with the postage.

sandraphippard 01-12-2011 08:10 AM

Does anyone know how to clean the Martelli cutter? I get a lot of dirt inside the plastic and can't get it out

Go into the search and type rotary blade carpet cutters...

inletjerry 01-12-2011 08:24 AM

Fits perfectly, if you can find them in stock. At last purchase, bought 10 pkgs. should have taken them all. Love them!

Delilah 01-12-2011 09:28 AM

I just put one of Harbor Freight's blades in my Martelli cutter last night and it works okay but it sure is not the same quality blade as one made for a rotary cutter. It would not cut eight layers of thin white muslin, had to use the Olfa for that. I think I'll stay with Friskar's or Olfa's blades.

You're right, I have to get a pin and clean it. I was told the new ones are supposed to have a way to clean but I haven't seen them. Is yours new?

I cut 3 layers of fleece and haven't had any problems except with a couple of blades that were defective from the package. Have you ever noticed that finer fabric is sometimes harder to cut than thicker fabric.

ssagomez 01-12-2011 10:47 AM

Yes the Harbor Freight blades fit the Friskers 45mm.

almostfree 01-12-2011 10:55 AM

Wow! I just found them and they are only $1.99 for a set of 2. Sooooo much cheaper than at my LQS!
