Has anyone ever...ordered from Fabric.com

Has anyone every ordered from Fabric.com? I am looking for double wide backing fabrics and they seem to be good prices but I wondered about the quality. please let me know your opinions

Jane Quilter 04-03-2017 07:13 AM

Yes, I have ordered from them and been very pleased with their quality.

nativetexan 04-03-2017 07:18 AM

I just ordered Kona jet black. Haven't gotten it yet though. never heard anything bad about them.

sewingitalltogether 04-03-2017 07:25 AM

Yes, I seem to order a LOT from Fabric.com. Great wide backing.

Austinite 04-03-2017 08:13 AM

They had better service before Amazon bought them out imo. They have an amazing selection. Took forever to ship my order and I got a giant hole in the middle of yardage that customer services didn't take seriously. Another order took over a week to ship and was missing an item... I gave up. My experiences on fabric.com seem to have been the exception rather than the rule. Several people have never had an issue, maybe I have bad luck LOL. I've heard good things about equilters and thousands of bolts.

laughingquilter 04-03-2017 08:25 AM

I order from Fabric.com all the time and I've always been pleased with the quality and the service. I've always received my product within a week.

gshalom 04-03-2017 08:42 AM

I have and find them to be fine. Their measurement is generous and the fabric is of high quality (that I ordered). And, they're pretty quick in fulfilling the order.

Kitsie 04-03-2017 08:48 AM

A favorite place to order from! One of my first places to look.

marge954 04-03-2017 08:52 AM

I have ordered lots of backing fabric from them. I had only one problem. The backing was advertised as quilter's flannel backing. When I received it I was disgusted to find that it was thick stiff flannel with a heavy, white, stiff backing. It was what I would use if making a man's heavy hunting coat. Since then I have stuck with Missouri Star, Christian Lane Quilters, and Yoder Department Store.

rusty quilter 04-03-2017 08:52 AM

Have to say, I have only had good fabric and good service from fabric.com

Jennifer23 04-03-2017 09:11 AM

I like to get wide backings from Connecting Threads - I've never been able to get free shipping to Canada from Fabric.com, but Connecting Threads ships free at $75. Their quality is good, but the selection is more limited.

Hamel's Fabrics in BC has a good selection of wide backings: http://store.hamelsfabrics.com/store...&categ_id=2477

I also buy wide backing at my LQS. Even without shipping, a Canadian store price of $20/metre is equivalent to $13.50 US/yard, so the online prices aren't as good as they seem. It depends what's available where you live/shop, though. If your fabric stores are charging $40/m, then online is definitely worthwhile.

Edit: Not that there's anything wrong with fabric.com... I just find that they don't have the best deals once you factor in shipping and exchange.

Ripped on Scotch 04-03-2017 09:30 AM

i'm actually in Canada as well but I'm on the US borders so I can go either way thankfully

SherriB 04-03-2017 09:40 AM

I have always had a good experience when I have ordered from Fabric.com. I just don't like that they upped the amount for free shipping from $35 to $49 but that is just life. We also have Amazon Prime and I can order fabric from Amazon (from Fabric.com) and get free shipping on some fabrics. Crazy how it works.

MissSongbird 04-03-2017 10:19 AM

I've shopped there a lot lately and I have yet to have a problem

luvspaper 04-03-2017 10:26 AM

First and only order went terribly wrong... They shipped me the wrong package (my order number was 1948 and they shipped me 1498's). When I called to let them know that I got the wrong package, the person was rude. And in the end, refused to refund my CC until they received the wrong package back in their warehouse and then they were now out of the special fabric that I had ordered. I immediately disputed the charge and got a permanent credit from Citibank that day after I sent the pic of what I received vs the receipt from my order. I honestly would have expected fabric.com to do something (even just a coupon for free shipping on my next order or something)

Oh and they would check the contact info on the order I received to see if they accidentally got mine. But of that and the refusal to immediately refund my CC because they know the fabric I wanted was now out of stock, I won't order from them again. There are too many other great places (Marshalls, Connecting Threads, etc)

Doggramma 04-03-2017 10:34 AM

I order a lot from them. The fabrics I get are "normal" quilt shop quality fabrics, like Kona, Moda, Riley Blake, etc. and the wide backings are nice quality also.

joe'smom 04-03-2017 11:43 AM

I order from them if no one else has what I'm looking for. I've had damaged fabric a couple of times, yardage not sent in continuous piece, wrong item shipped, and extremely sloppy cutting.

soccertxi 04-03-2017 12:02 PM

I have ordered from them from time to time. No issues with orders. My first choice is Thousands of Bolts! I love to poke around there and find JUST what I am looking for. Great prices and timely delivery. I have an order in my cart from there now!

Thousandsofbolts.com

I've been shopping fabric.com for almost 20 years! They are my go- to on line fabric shop. I've never been disappointed. i purchase 98% of my wide backings from them and a lot of my aurifil thread.

dunster 04-03-2017 12:07 PM

I'm surprised to hear of so many problems with them, and especially surprised about the customer service attitude. I haven't had problems so far, but will be more wary in the future.

Jeanne S 04-03-2017 12:23 PM

I have ordered from them many times and never had a problem. I do dislike the policy they adopted about a year ago of charging more per yard if the cut is less than a full yard.

Boston1954 04-03-2017 01:51 PM

Yes, I have, and I have always been happy with what I got from them.

maminstl 04-03-2017 02:14 PM

It's a huge on line store with many different brands, so if you know your brand, no problem with quality. They don't have nearly the good sales that they used to, and with the 1 yard pricing policy I really don't shop there. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them if they had something I wanted.

suern3 04-03-2017 03:27 PM

I order from them routinely, especially when I can't find what I want at LQS. I haven't had any problems with them at all. In fact, I recently ordered a patriotic panel and it wasn't quite the color I wanted in person. All I had to do to return it was go to their customer service on the website and brief message and email address. The next morning they had emailed me a return label that I printed off, stuck on the front of original package and off to UPS. It was credited back to me within a week. I don't think you need to worry about ordering from them. Fast shipping too.

zozee 04-03-2017 03:39 PM

A few times. Always satisfied.

moonrise 04-03-2017 03:47 PM

I've spent hundreds (probably thousands!) of dollars there, and have had only one minor problem. The wrong fabric was sent. I contacted them, and they sent the correct one, and told me to keep the other. :) They used to send 37" for every yard ordered. Not sure if they still do. The quality has always been great.

I agree that they don't seem to have as many sales as they used to, and I can't seem to find any coupon codes for them these days. I also don't like the extra charge for ordering less than a yard, but I do like that they sometimes have discounts for ordering multiple yards.

meyert 04-03-2017 03:52 PM

I order alot from Fabric.com and have never been disappointed. The only thing that I can say is watch Amazon because Fabric.com sells on Amazon and sometimes you can get the same fabric without shipping costs.. and not spending the $50 minimum

pewa88 04-03-2017 04:43 PM

I have ordered from them many times. The only problem I have had is that they occasionally short me on fabric after I tear on the grain for straight cuts. They do not consistently cut straight of grain. I have complained about this and they do send me a credit coupon for future orders. I also think the service is not as good since they affliated with Amazon.

I ordered from them one time. I was looking for a specific fabric and they had it in stock, but it was more than I wanted to pay. I watched it for a while, and it went on sale, and had free shipping! They said they had 15 yards in stock. I ordered the whole bolt. Waited for a while and it didn't come. Thought about calling them, but I got an email saying the fabric was no longer available and my order was cancelled. I tried to see if a smaller quantity was available, but got no response. Sent several emails, still no response. Finally gave up. When I started searching for the fabric again, you guessed it - there were 15 yards available at fabric.com! I haven't tried them again.

This is the fabric I ordered. I finally found it on EBay for a price I was willing to pay.

I have ordered from them for quilting cotton with good results. My daughter orders from them for home dec and outdoor fabric with great results. They were excellent on a return that she had as well. Their prices are good. We recently went shopping at JoAnn's with a 70% off coupon on some outdoor fabric that she wanted to recover some cushions. Fabric.com's regular price beat JoAnn's with the 70% off coupon. We placed the order yesterday. They do give quantity discounts - per yard is one price up to a point and less after that. Do the math when you are ordering. For example my daughter needed 4 1/4 yd for her project but the break point on price was at 5 yards. It was actually less expensive to buy 5 yards of the fabric than it was 4 1/4 so now she has some room to play with her project or make a pillow cover etc with the extra. I would not hesitate to order from them.

I didn't know they had been bought by Amazon. I have had good luck with them in the past...

This is my go to company for all my NFL fabric. It's the only company that stock all the team. Great company. Never have I been disappointed.

JENNR8R 04-04-2017 04:38 AM

I recently ordered one yard each of two sale fabrics from them for the first time. I received the order in less than a week. Both packages had a sticker on it that said that they were from the end of the bolt. When I measured them, one fabric had an extra 11 inches, and the other fabric had an extra 33 inches for free!!! I felt like buying a lottery ticket. :)

luvstoquilt 04-04-2017 04:46 AM

Love them. Great service and great quality fabric. Also love Hancocks of Paducah!

sherneff44 04-04-2017 06:24 AM

I buy from them and have never had a problem with the quality of the fabric and have received my orders in less than a week.

SewingSew 04-04-2017 06:44 AM

I have ordered fabric from them multiple times. The last time I purchased 3 fabric panels. One of the panels looked as though the scissors chewed up the cut edge, and it destroyed the edge of the panel, making it useless. The fact that a salesperson knowingly sent me a ruined panel bothered me and I haven't shopped there again.

Sewnoma 04-04-2017 06:59 AM

I've ordered from them for years - more than a decade, and seldom had any issues. I don't notice service changing now that Amazon is involved - for me it's always been hassle-free. I love it when I get those end of bolt "jackpot!" stickers - as JENNR8R describes, I've occasionally gotten almost a full yard for free!

One order, I ordered a yard of a certain fabric and received an email saying it was out of stock but they had everything else. When I got my package, they'd found two half-yard cuts of the fabric I wanted and included them in my order, but did not charge me for that fabric at all. I thought that was really good service, and I was able to use the two half-yard cuts just fine for my project.

They are often the best price I can find for Auriful thread.

Prices have gone up over the years, and the free shipping has gotten less generous over the years too, but I think that's pretty much true everywhere.

I really try to avoid going onto that site, to be honest. Too many tempting goodies, and I already have enough fabric on hand to last the rest of my life. Sometimes I can't resist browsing the New Arrivals, though...

Sneed 04-04-2017 07:44 AM

I have ordered Minky from them. Very satisfied.

fivepaws 04-04-2017 08:50 AM

I have ordered many times and always been pleased.

ArtsyOne 04-04-2017 09:47 AM

I ordered two 2-yard pieces of quilting fabric. Received two 2-yard pieces of dressmaker fabric - black lurex and black satin. Sent a quick email and they apologized, said they would send the correct items immediately and please keep the incorrect order. The correct items arrived within 3 days. Now what I'm going to do with black lurex, I have no idea.
