I went out to the garage and swiped a piece of coarse sand paper from DH. Took my trusty paper punch to it and glued a few dots onto my 6 x 24 ruler. Perfect!

I like the sandpaper dots.

Have you ever tried quilter's rule ruers they are no slip and I have been pleased with them for years. I think even JoAnns carries the no slip stuff or a hardware store.

Velcro, the sticky back kind, works very well to keep rulers from slipping. You can purchase the dots.

It's pretty dangerous to let a longarm ruler/template slip - easy to sew your hand to the quilt...and you can't reach the back to raise the needle either so you're stuck until someone comes home (which is why most of us keep a phone in our pocket when longarming!). So, it's common for LA'ers to use something on the templates/rulers. The velcro works very well. The only issue is that you cannot slide the ruler, which I also like to do when sewing fast - so some have it, and some don't.

One of the longarmers has recommended the skateboarding non-slip tape you can buy - she says it works great...and is easy to swipe a piece if you have skateboarders :) I find it pricey to buy if you're just wanting it for rulers.

I think the dots work better than the "slippage film" Having use of 1 arm, cutting fabric has been a problem to overcome. I use the sandpaper dots AND a weight to hold the ruler. I cut the cord off an old iron (the older ones were heavier) and put it atop the ruler.

I use the rougher side of velcro dots and they work like a dream. No slipping and they tend to be cheaper than some of the other alternatives I've seen at my LQS.

The sandpaper dots just didn'twork for me. Just left a residue when they came off. My best trick is to just walk my hand up the ruler as I cut.

I glued a few one-inch squares of the plastic waffle-type shelf covering on my ruler. It works well for me. Cheap too.

I bought sandpaper dots at the hardware store and love them.
