I am teaching myself how to bind, I just did my first quilt, tried to top stitch and catch it on the back side, failed big time, so I tried another quilt top stitching, easier for me except my corners are pretty sad and ugly, I dont mind binding if I can just get it down perfect.

This is true and it looks so different when you get the binding on.

I actually love the binding - sewn by machine on the front and by hand to the back. It calms me and I usually do it while in the car during a trip.

It appears that there are many in each camp, perhaps evenly split. Binding is that satisfying finish of a quilt for me. I machine sew it on, usually onto the front, trim it quite precisely, and then hand-sew it to the back because I like the neatness of hidden stitches and the near-perfection finish. I do the hand-sewing usually in my recliner with my feet up, a nice change from sitting at the machine.

Watch the "Glue Baste It" video on Utube. You will never again worry with binding. I enjoy it now - No pins, no clips, and perfect 45's on the corners. I feel so professional its scary

I guess I'm weird because I like this little bit of handwork!!

Also check our Sharon Schambers she has a video on you tube about binding and it is really a neat way to do it. I have binding too. I HATE handwork and if I machine stitch it, one side is always off and doesn't look good so I end up hand stitvhing.

A friend of mine once told me that I hated binding because it meant the end of a project!!! I do try to remember this when binding - not quite convinced though lol

Woohoo!!! I saw the easy method for connecting the binding at my fave LQS [now gone] several years ago and then promptly forgot how. I like to have handwork on hand as well as machine stuff. Makes me feel "not guilty" about sitting in front of the tele watching movies to have handwork going. Make any sense? My Mom used to ask "Don't you have something constructive to do?" when I would sit and watch cartoons.
