I agree about the knit picker...I have several, even carry one in my purse. You will love it.
I like the idea of applique as well. They would really be cute if you place them so they look like they are coming out of the (frame).
Depending on the fabric (if you have any left over) you could use that and maybe put a small button on the appliques for a bit more interest.
Another suggestion I did not see anyone post, is if you have some more of the binding material left, cut the snagged part out and sew the new piece in. Of course you would want a pretty long piece to keep it from looking like you are covering up an error.
You are so sweet to take on this task for her.
Maybe you can post a picture when you are finished.

From the front side...insert a needle half way through..where the eye is just showing...thread the needle with the end of the snag and pull to the back side.
No one will ever know it was there.

That would take care of the loop on top of the fabric but there's a snag line in the fabric. It's pretty noticeable in person but this picture kind of dulls the snag. It looks more like a manufacturing error than a human error. There's a hard, raised bump on the fabric that you can kind of see in the picture. That's what I'm trying to cover up. She had the thought that if I did some kind of quilting, then it would cover it up.

Sometimes a bit of thread gets caught in the weaving during the manufacturing process. If that happened, try cutting the "Tail of thread off closely" and stitch a line of quilting stitches right over the worst "bump" to distract the eyes of the viewer. It is about all you can do....

Thanks! This is what I ended up doing. I did echo stitching every 1/2" in this border and while it wasn't totally even, the multiple straight lines distract enough so that I had to look closely to find it.

It's a flaw in the weave, like what CoventryUK said. I'm trying to think of a way and looking for suggestions on the best way to quilt over it. Really not sure.

Could the flaw become the body of a butterfly? That should look nice on a kids quilt, along with some swirls of the butterflies movement... just a thought...

Well.. one very radical solution would be to trim the border so that the flaw is concealed within the very edge of the binding. (I did say radical.)

However, I like the idea of pulling the snag to the inside and getting creative with cute bug/flower quilting.

Show us a pic of the fix!

Here it is!

Here's a pic with a pin right where the snag is.

Here is the finished border without the pin.

I think the needle and thread it back either inside or underneith and you can probably gently quilt over it. Make sure you secure the end of it so it can't come undone again. Sue

I'm not sure if I'm still seeing the thread come up a little. Sue

Yeah, that's part of the snag on top of the fabric. I've trimmed it but it's still a bit evident.
