Help me make this quilt bigger
 

Hi all
I started making this top and been stopped dead in my steps .
Not sure what color to put all around it to make it larger .
Was thinking black but i,m trying to stop my self from always using black.
Any ideas.
And thanks for your help.

If you put black sashing around the sides to ‘finish off’ the edges of the blocks almost any colour would work as a border.

I agree that you need black at the ends and sides of the strips before you use anything else. After that, I would put strips of green, blue, pink and gold because they seem to be the most noticeable colours ( depending on what my screen is showing me) around the black to see which one makes everything pop. But that's just me. I'm sure others would approach it differently.

do you have any bright multicolored larger print fabric? That might be interesting if you can find one that pulls out the colors from some of the fabrics....

I was thinking the same, sewingpup. A narrow black border followed by a wider bright multi colored border.

Agree with both SewingPup and CashsMom .... there are some batiks that have all those colours "shmooshed" together and could work nicely with what you have. Then finish it off with an extra extra wide black binding to frame it all up.

This quilt is very effective and dramatic ... love it!

I agree with the rest that a black stop border the same width as your sashing is what it needs first.
Then, if there's a certain color you want to emphasize, do a wide (maybe 5") border in that , and finish
with black binding. Personally the lilac is speaking to me. :)

I just finished a "brick" quilt today and enlarged the quilt by adding a piano key border on all 4 sides. I used the same size bricks and width of "mortar."
