Help Please. Do you think there is enough contrast?

I am starting a labyrinth walk quilt and am just not sure about the fabrics.

I thought there was enough contrast but can't decide if it will be OK or not as it grows. Here is the 1st set of blocks.

Any thoughts out there?

DOTTYMO 06-10-2013 11:14 PM

Wow. I have just started and used purple shades between black and white and contrast was my problem as well.
They look great.

nanacc 06-10-2013 11:26 PM

That looks great! Love the colors. Who is that pattern by?

ArtsyOne 06-11-2013 02:32 AM

I think they look great! Can't wait to see the finished project.

JustAbitCrazy 06-11-2013 02:45 AM

Looks like enough contrast to me.

Tartan 06-11-2013 02:53 AM

I think it works out great!

phusker5 06-11-2013 04:44 AM

The pattern was in Quilt Magazine designed by Chris Florence & Emily Sirkin. I'm not sure what month my SIL sent it to me because she knew i wanted to do one of these. So far I can't believe how simple it has been (be sure to label pieces as you cut) I am excited can't wait to get it done but I have some other projects going that have to get done so I am working on it in between. I'll post pictures as I go.

jcrow 06-11-2013 05:50 AM

I think there is a lot of contrast. Don't worry! You did very well!!!

klgls 06-11-2013 06:08 AM

I think there is plenty of contrast. Looking great!

racerh 06-11-2013 06:29 AM

I think it will be wonderful! Mine is at the LAQ now and I can't wait to get it back http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...e-t219581.html

I learned a lot about getting the depth correct with this cube quilt I did - http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...r-t221088.html and threw away many a cube that just did not pop!

Please post when done and be sure to download the corrections. I cut as I went along and the second block was much harder for me!

Good luck!

And Mary Quilting, yours is beautiful.
Thanks for the link too.

Apparently there were mistakes in the magazine pattern. I cannot find the corrections page on the Quilt mag website, nor can I find a free download of the pattern there. Thought I heard the pattern was so popular the designer is coming out with a printed pattern for it to sell.

Edit: I searched the website in a different way and DID find the correction sheet for this pattern. Here is a link to the PDF:

The corrections are in red.

racerh 06-11-2013 10:39 AM

Yours looks great Mary!

racerh 06-11-2013 01:19 PM

Quilt Magazine ran out but I found a post from June 10, 2013 that the pattern will be ready soon! http://theguiltyquilters.blogspot.com/

MadQuilter 06-11-2013 02:45 PM

Can you photocopy the block? That will show you in black and white how the contrast shows. I think it's good because you have white and black at each end of the spectrum and a light and medium grey in between.

Marilynsue 06-11-2013 03:01 PM

It is Perfect!

richardswife 06-11-2013 03:27 PM

It looks great to me.

Rose S. 06-11-2013 03:38 PM

I think the colors you chose work well together...very nice.

grammy of 6 06-11-2013 03:41 PM

Oh, I think the book is about walking an actual labyrinth. It is a form of meditation and called the labyrinth walk.

Yooper32 06-12-2013 02:54 AM

My first word out of my mouth, before I scrolled down at all was, "WOW", in awe. I see the first person to respond to this thread said the same thing. Does that give you the answer you needed?

nananurse 06-12-2013 03:15 AM

Looks great! Can't wait to see the finished product!

piepatch 06-12-2013 04:03 AM

There is plenty of contrast to my eye. You have a light, medium and dark...........can't ask for a more workable combination. It looks really nice and I hope you will post the finished picture!

Hi Mary,
The link doesn't work. :(

CJS63 06-12-2013 05:01 AM

Without a doubt, you can see the depth in this block completly

Phillyquilter 06-12-2013 06:07 AM

looks great to me

cpcarolyn 06-12-2013 06:09 AM

Looks good to me.

Stitchit123 06-12-2013 06:37 AM

Nope-- don't change any thing. My MIL done this pattern in greys and black also. She went and changed the black to red and the only one that liked it was her cat.She went and re-bought her fabrics and stuck to the original plan. Her quilt was auctioned off and brought in a whopping $500 for the Women and Children's Shelter

Friday1961 06-12-2013 07:11 AM

Very effective contrast! I love this illusion!

feffertim 06-12-2013 08:22 AM

I think it is stunning. The contrast is just right. Keep going

MargeD 06-12-2013 08:28 AM

I'd say you're off to a great start. Very nice.

Pete 06-12-2013 09:06 AM

Really great! Love it and don't change the colors.
