Help! Please! Yardage for Warm Wishes Quilt
I really feel like a dummy - I used to be a bookkeeper and now I have a real problem wrapping my brain around numbers. I have never made a Warm Wishes quilt but need a quick quilt now. I have looked at lots of pictures on this board of the pattern and don't know why I've never tried one. I would like to go out today to buy fabric but the only instructions I can find are on the Quilt Makers web site and the yardage directions seem confusing and just don't seem to click with me - duh!
I want to use a purple/lavendar 6" blocks and use three strip colors - maybe a tone on tone dark purple and the second one light orchid for the 2" strips and white for the 3" strip. I am not looking forward to quilting it so I'm only planning to make it about 60' X 80" - just enough to cover the top of a queen sized bed. Can someone please help me with the math on this. I would appreciate it soooo very much! Thanks in advance. Everyone on this board is so helpful - don't think I could quilt without your help. |

here is a warm wishes with 6" blocks. it is 62x80 with the 4" border. the purple strips are cut at 2" which makes the white strips cut at 3.5", not 3". and here is the yardage suggested by EQ5.

Love the Warm Wishes pattern!

I love your color choices! Can't go wrong with shades of purple. Of course, I am a certified purple freak!! But a Warm Wishes with shades of purple will be great!

Now I'm really confused - I read somewhere that if you make the strips 2 + 3 + 2 the strip set will be 7" minus the 4 - quarter inch seams - making the strip set come out at 6". The instructions on Quilt Maker says to make the focus block 6" and the strips 2 + 3+ 2. Maybe I'm reading this all wrong. My biggest question was/is "how much yardage I need to buy and Nancy you answered that for me. Thanks a bunch! I knew someone would come to the rescue

if you cut the strips at 2", they finish at 1.5". the 3.5" strip will finish at 3". so 1.5+1.5+3=6.

Only scraps left of the print so binding will be the blue floral, blue flowers are in the main print, got real lucky to find it in the stash. Do not know why it has taken me so long to actually use this pattern. Can't wait to do the camo one, I recommend putting this pattern to the top of everyone's list to make. Thanks, the thing I liked about the 6" cuts was the strip blocks were cut at 3" and 2"--all easily cut with my 6" wide ruler. |

Like I said - I am totally confused when it comes to numbers. I will just go buy the fabrics with QuiltnNan's fabric calculations (maybe a little extra) and do my best. Thanks again!
