I am using Bonnie Hunter's Strip Twist pattern. Thought I was clever to use up scraps. I did not realize my "lights" would read as "mediums" due to the designs in them.

I am considering making more blocks using more creams and off whites, then making two quilts so that half of these blocks will be used in the second quilt. Would that cut down on the busy-ness?

Any suggestions would be welcomed!

The second pic is a close up of what I am referring to with the lights and mediums.

I like it just as it is. Love Bonnie Hunter's quilts.

I think it looks great the way it is! I don't see too many that don't read as lights, so I think you're okay.

I see what you mean. I think I would make more and then use the leftovers for a second quilt.

erstan947 07-16-2011 12:05 PM

I'm a huge fan of scrap quilts. I love it. I think when you border it all the way around that it will be stunning. I find with scrap quilts it is best to not analyze it too much:)

dreamer2009 07-16-2011 12:18 PM

what a cute pattern this is :)

raedar63 07-16-2011 12:26 PM

I love it as is, it seems to me to have great movement and a 3d appearance.

quiltmouse 07-16-2011 12:28 PM

I'm sorry you are not happy with it. I really like it, you have done a lovely job. Do you have a reducer? look at it thru that. If not, squint. I think you will find they look med to you because you are close to it.

amma 07-16-2011 12:30 PM

I really like the lighter tone of this quilt :D:D:D

I like it the way it is...agree not to over-analyze. I reduced my screen view to 50% and I think it what you have is working!

frugalfabrics 07-16-2011 12:32 PM

I like it just the way it is....

collady 07-16-2011 12:33 PM

redquilter 07-16-2011 01:17 PM

I also vote for it just the way it is.

caliquocat 07-16-2011 01:25 PM

It looks great when viewed at 50% on my screen too. I think you have a winner just the way it is. I made this quilt too a few years ago.

Fabaddict 07-16-2011 01:37 PM

Looks fine exactly as it is. That is the beauty of scrap quilts - anything goes

Buckeye Rose 07-16-2011 01:44 PM

IMHO, I wouldn't do a thing....it look great just like it is....scrappy is scrappy and you did a great job!

Barb44 07-16-2011 01:50 PM

It looks just like a scrap quilt should look. I don't think your lights look like mediums. It has a good balance. Scrap quilts are naturally busier than planned quilts unless you are using mostly solids.

blueangel 07-16-2011 02:13 PM

I like it te way it is. Beautiful

pocoellie 07-16-2011 02:33 PM

I like it fine like it is, but it's your quilt, so if you want to change it, go ahead.

Scrap Happy 07-16-2011 02:40 PM

I think it looks wonderful the way it is.

Cybrarian 07-16-2011 03:09 PM

It has almost a 3D Effect I love it. Agree the border will complete it beautifully.

pjustice63 07-16-2011 03:12 PM

I, too , think it looks great. It is a scrap quilt so use it and enjoy.

sweetpea 07-16-2011 03:13 PM

love just as it is.

QuiltnNan 07-16-2011 03:39 PM

i think it's perfect just as it is. i don't think it looks too busy.

Pinkiris 07-16-2011 03:44 PM

If you think that you would like it better with lighter "lights", then make some more blocks and go with the two quilt idea. Whatever pleases you works!

You could try a border around each block or sashing around each. Lay the blocks on a light fabric and see what you think.

wonderful! Not too busy, just enough movement in it. It is lively! I love it. I don't think your pattern fabric looks medium toned at all. There is plenty of contrast and my eye moves around the quilt well without anything jumping out. Colors are balanced through out. Wonderful quilt I would be proud of!
peace :D

edit: I really like the gold border. The green doesn't seem to relate to anything. Not much in the quilt. I would try a dark red or marroon or better yet dark purple with the gold. there seems to be a lot of lavender and purples in the quilt. Here is a sample of a purple border in a scrappy quilt.
It works with all the colors in it!

PaperPrincess 07-16-2011 06:34 PM

I love it! If you think it's too busy, audition sashing in a solid color. It will frame and separate the blocks.

jdiane318 07-16-2011 06:52 PM

You are your own worst critic. It is fine as is. End of story.

Kim Bohannon 07-16-2011 06:53 PM

Oh, I think that is very pretty as is! I don't think it needs anything!

luvnquilt 07-16-2011 07:03 PM

I think it's beautiful, I wouldn't have had an issue with the fabric choices, but if it really bugs you, you should make it something you're comfortable with! Happy quilting, and be sure to post the final product.

Juliebelle 07-17-2011 02:46 AM

I think it looks beautiful the way it is great job

JMZquilts 07-17-2011 02:50 AM

You've done a fabulous job! Looks like a real winner to me the was it is.

chickadeee55 07-17-2011 02:55 AM

I agree it looks great. Maybe you need to step away from it for a day, then come back and look at it. Sometimes when we work with a project we spend too much time looking at the same fabrics. So take a visual break from it.

LindaG 07-17-2011 02:59 AM

I love it just the way it is!

oldcottontop 07-17-2011 03:30 AM

I love it the way it is. Once you put a border on and quilt it, it will tone itself down some. You did a great job.

Shelbit30 07-17-2011 03:32 AM

Looks like a scrappy quilt to me-beautiful!
