My hubby has a saying when he sees the start of my quilts.
"your take=off sucks...but the landing is fine." So don't criticize the work until it it done. Then know it is beautiful!!!!!!!

Nothing ugly about this quilt, dear. Love Love Love the white, it gives it a clean crispness and makes it more "airy" and open in a room, kinda like extra lighting! I envy your eye for "color". Beautiful!!! :)

I don't think it is ugly at all. I like the blue sashing. When it is finished and if you still don't like it then donate it.

I like the blue. It is a very pretty quilt. It is not ugly.

You are being way too hard on yourself. That is not an ugly quilt and you should be proud of such a great start on your quilting career. The blue sashing looks best to me but then I like lots of colour. Many first time quilters wouldn't even attempt sashing. My first quilt was just 8 1/2" scrappy blocks stitched together and I thought it was beautiful. Finish it up, enjoy and start quilt #2!

I would not use sashing at all. I think the blocks will look lovely together. Use the other fabrics to make narrow white inner border and a wider blue outer border, then bind with blue, white, and yellow scraps. A quilt takes on a totally new look (always for the better) when the blocks are sewn together and quilting is added. I recently quilted a 4-patch comfort quilt that another guild member put together from miscellaneous blue and red squares of donated fabrics. I didn't have too much hope for it when I first saw the top, but you wouldn't believe how pretty it was after it was finished, and I didn't do anything fancy with the quilting. (Sorry, I forgot to take pictures.)

If you are wanting to another way...

Here is a great tutorial that starts with a four patch! You could just designate all the blue as the blocks you cut (or all the non blues)..make sense?

My personal preference would be white sashing with this pattern

I like the blue. I don't think it's going to be ugly, but maybe you don't like it because there is so little contrast? If you want more pizzazz or drama, pick a sashing color that's way darker and different--maybe a rich chocolate brown. And please post when you've finished.

I can't believe I am going to say this because I very rarely like blue anything... but I prefer the blue.

I don't know why you say it is ugly. This totally confuses me.

I like the blue best. It is NOT ugly.
