I have started my first quilt. It is a Blue and Yellow 4-patch scrappy. It's ugly. I am trying to fix it with sashing but do not know what color to use? Is the blue to " medium" ? I tried a white sheet? a lighter blue? Would it help to put little blocks in the sashing?
blu or white sashing |
I like the white ...
and there is not such thing as an ugly quilt!! |
I love the quilt! Either of the sashings will work, but I like the blue best!!
It is a very pretty quilt. I love blue and yellow together. Either color would make good sashing, or even a darkish blue, similar to what you used in your pieces. I would love this quilt. You did a very nice job on it - NOT ugly at all!
I like the blue for sashing. I think it will turn out pretty.....not ugly!
I like the white sashing. It's not ugly either way though!
Never judge a quilt top by its individual blocks. No matter which way you go, it will be cute. The sum of all parts is what gives it character.
I like the blue sashing. It brings out the colors in the squares. You have a very pretty quilt, not ugly. You will be pleased with it when the quilt is finished and quilted.
Blue all the way for me!
And I agree, there's really no such thing as an ugly quilt. :D |
I like the blue and as ladybug said - there is no such thing as an ugly quilt!
It is NOT ugly!!!
I personally really like the blue, but the white is far from icky. No matter which way you go, I think it would be stunning if you bind it using a dark blue. |
I love your colors. I like the white sashing
Who told you it was ugly? As my brother said one time when we were very young and got my feelings hurt, "Do you want me to put a spider down her back?" I like the blue for the sashing.
I like the blue, and think it would look neat in my blue bedroom.
No quilt is ugly, maybe more "user friendly" than most, but first and foremost it is made to keep people warm. |
OMGosh! That is NOT an ugly quilt!! My entire kitchen is cobalt blue and yellow and I LOVE the combination :) The combination is actually quite popular. It really will look great once it is together I promise :D Here is a link with lots of pretty pictures of the blue/yellow comination:

Well first of all it is not ugly at all. I prefer the blue. Very nice! Post when you are done OK? If you still don't like it I will pay for shipping to my house. LOL
I like the blue sashing. It's not ugly at all! You'll be suprized at how nice it will be when finished.

It will be beautiful no matter how you make it.. |
i don't think its ugly its pretty to me, Hubby ask why we all say stuff we make is ugly, lol i told him i don't know i guess we expect it to come out differently (something we see in our heads etc) then we are dissatisfied with the out come, but ITS pretty to me

I like white for sashing, but I like your quilt no matter what you choose! Definitely not ugly.
I like the blue for sashing. Don't think this quilt is ugly at all!
Blue, white and yellow are classics!! I think your blocks are beautiful :D:D:D
I like the white, but the blue is pretty too! |
the blue softens it but the white looks good too. depends on which you like, softer or sharper.
Love the blue, and I agree no such thing as an ugly quilt.
I'm not gonna be any help because I like both. Maybe do half white and half blue in the sashing. Your blocks are very nice. I think the out come is gonna surprise you when it's all done.
It is not ugly. My choice would be the blue sashing, and maybe even a darker blue. One other thing, is there any green in the floral fabric? If there is, you might want to audition green with it. Sometimes things that you would never put together, look good when they are together.
I love the blue and yellow combination. The white background is my favorite. Looks so bright and cheerful!
I like the blue, but as a University of Michigan grad my heart leans more towards the white so the blue and yellow are the stars!
I think the quilt is far from ugly - I vote for blue sashing.
I think it will be cute and adorable! I like the blue, too. :-)

My hubby has a saying when he sees the start of my quilts.
"your take=off sucks...but the landing is fine." So don't criticize the work until it it done. Then know it is beautiful!!!!!!! |
Nothing ugly about this quilt, dear. Love Love Love the white, it gives it a clean crispness and makes it more "airy" and open in a room, kinda like extra lighting! I envy your eye for "color". Beautiful!!! :)

You are being way too hard on yourself. That is not an ugly quilt and you should be proud of such a great start on your quilting career. The blue sashing looks best to me but then I like lots of colour. Many first time quilters wouldn't even attempt sashing. My first quilt was just 8 1/2" scrappy blocks stitched together and I thought it was beautiful. Finish it up, enjoy and start quilt #2!
I would not use sashing at all. I think the blocks will look lovely together. Use the other fabrics to make narrow white inner border and a wider blue outer border, then bind with blue, white, and yellow scraps. A quilt takes on a totally new look (always for the better) when the blocks are sewn together and quilting is added. I recently quilted a 4-patch comfort quilt that another guild member put together from miscellaneous blue and red squares of donated fabrics. I didn't have too much hope for it when I first saw the top, but you wouldn't believe how pretty it was after it was finished, and I didn't do anything fancy with the quilting. (Sorry, I forgot to take pictures.)

If you are wanting to another way...
Here is a great tutorial that starts with a four patch! You could just designate all the blue as the blocks you cut (or all the non blues)..make sense? http://www.modabakeshop.com/2010/08/...aths.html#more My personal preference would be white sashing with this pattern |
I like the blue. I don't think it's going to be ugly, but maybe you don't like it because there is so little contrast? If you want more pizzazz or drama, pick a sashing color that's way darker and different--maybe a rich chocolate brown. And please post when you've finished.
I can't believe I am going to say this because I very rarely like blue anything... but I prefer the blue.
I don't know why you say it is ugly. This totally confuses me. |
I like the blue best. It is NOT ugly.
