Not ugly. I like the white
I agree with everyone this is a very pretty pattern and I feel
like the blue would be a very good color , it has so many possibility's just and I'm sure it will look fabulous once you have it finished..Can't wait to see it :D :D  |
I like the white - It is not ugly - the sashing will help, but remember you are your harshed critic
I think your quilt is lovely. I like the blue, but the white gives it a whole new feeling.
As you make quilts, you will find when you lay them out, as you are doing, you will often say - Yuk.. this is not pretty at all. However, when you sew it together it will take on a lovely life of its own and will become very lovely. By the time you are finished, you will really love it. Trust me and I am sure others will say the same thing, or maybe they already have, I haven't read all the responses. Julie Florida (3 cats) |
I like the white as it makes the blocks stand out more. a little applique in the borders would be a nice addition to these 4-patch blocks
I love your quilt. I love the blue.
The blue looks more tailored, the white more feminine. So either way you win. I love it!
Kinda looks like Univ of Michigan colors :) I bet a fan would to buy it . I think perhaps the dark blue or navy trim would make the interior colors pop out more. Just a thought. I am no expert at quilting but I do pretty well w/color matching.
I like the blue no quilt is ugly.
I like either & I agree there's no such thing as an ugly quilt. Blue & yellow work great together.
I like the blue.
There is nothing ugly about your quilt. I would use the white between the blocks and maybe put a blue and a yellow border. I think it will look lovely when you finish.
I like the white better, but either will work.
Oh- you sound like me! I laughed when you said you wanted it to look like the ones your grandmother made- how much experience did she have when she made them? Give her some credit for having learned something through her life, so therefore you have to be starting in a different place!
And the place you are starting is a good place. I have to say, when I read your title I thought I was going to be looking at something far far far FAR more of a challenge than this! I love blue and yellow and I think you have done well - try out those darks you mentioned and see how it looks- playing with it is part of the process. And, of course, don't forget to show it to us when it is done..... And tell your husband hi from my husband- the brotherhood of quilting widowers........ |
I just love blues & yellows. It's very cute & a far cry from ugly!
Both sashings are pretty. |
First of all it is not ugly. Second, Sharon Craig came and spoke at our guild, twice in fact. her theory is, use for sashing, whatever color you want the quilt to be. So, if you are interested in blue, use blue, if you like the lighter softer look, go with the white. i didn't look, but do you have any other colors in your fabrics, like maybe green? Lay the blocks on green, and see what happens.
Either the blue or white will work well. It is a beautiful quilt. Be proud of it.
The blue brings out the beauty of the blocks. It is definately not ugly. :>)

Ugly?? I don't think it is ugly. It is very pretty. I do like the squares on the blue better though
I think a Navy blue might make all the blocks stand out more and maybe some yellow for a border. Otherwise, I prefer the blue to the white
I don't think that your quilt is ugly either. I do like the blue sashing. It gives it a softer look. Ever thought about doing the disappearing 4 patch with your blocks? You wouldn't have to worry with the sashing. I am for easy!!!! Good Luck
If you want to mix it up a little, you could do a disappearing 4patch. just google D4p and it will show you how to do it. It turns out really pretty.
But what you have there is not ugly. I like the blue bg with the corner stones. |
I think the blue is the better choice. If you are disappointed that your quilt looks 'ugly', why not be a bit more brave in your background choice and put red as the sashing or some other background that will make the colours pop. Try a whole lot of different colours before you decide on a safe or conservative choice - you may be surprised as to how nice your quilt does look after that.

I think a darker blue would work nice.
Nothing wrong with your blocks, I like them. |
Blue sashing would look great with the blocks. Maybe you could find a little bit darker blue material with some wild dark blue, white and yellow pattern in it (just an idea).
I like your colors and I like your blocks. It will be a nice quilt, you'll see! |
I like the blue, and like most of the others on the board it is not ugly. Can't wait to see it finished, it will look great ether color
Nothing ugly about that quilt!! I like the blue...
I love the blue sashing with the white for corner blocks. I also find your blocks quite lovely and not ugly at all. Here's another volunteer home for it if you still don't like it when it's done. LOL.I know you will love it tho. It's going to be even more beautiful when it done.
the reason the blocks look so different is case it never felt
"right" and so I kept buying more fat quarters lol. I am going to do the" Irish chain" or try and match the blocks up. Then put dk blue and a yellow border around it. not sure with order till I get my crayons out....I finally got some graph paper to try and plot this thing. Lots of lessons have been learned on this adventure. The most important ! Have a Plan!!! and don't buy 10 yds of blue fabric that u don't need. |
I vote for the white and I thik your quilt is lovely. so there :-D
my favorite color combination; it will be beautiful.
I like the blue. White is nice, too. But, I vote for blue.
And it's definitely not Ugly! You've done a good job. It is very Spingy. |
You are a very sweet person to give the ugly quilt person a link to such a nice blue/yellow site . Not everyone would think to do that. And of course the quilt is not ugly.
first of all it is not ugly !! it just is not done yet !! my first choice would be the white maybe because i like white but both would look good
i think once you get it all done you will change your mond on how it looks |
How about very pale yellow sashing and a dark blue binding?
I LIKE THE BLUE. MAKES IT LOOK WARM AND COZY AND IT WILL BE BEAUTIFUL WHEN YOU ARE FINISHED....YOU'LL SEE AND BE SURPRISED!

A quilt takes on a totally new look (always for the better) when the blocks are sewn together and quilting is added. I recently quilted a 4-patch comfort quilt that another guild member put together from miscellaneous blue and red squares of donated fabrics. I didn't have too much hope for it when I first saw the top, but you wouldn't believe how pretty it was after it was finished, and I didn't do anything fancy with the quilting. (Sorry, I forgot to take pictures.)

NO definitely NOT ugly!!!
I prefer the blue- but you should just go with your own gut feeling!! |
