My gripe with HL is that they so badly need to UPDATE their checkouts ... they don't have price scanning, so the poor clerks have to ring up EVERY item. It takes forever when people are buying a lot of stuff, plus they often miss the sale prices. Are HL like that all over the US ?? I've only been to ones here in TX ... just wondering  |
I love Hobby Lobby not only for quilting but decorative items as well. Don't have them in California (yet) but there's one where my daughter lives in Arizona and I always go there when I visit.
|
I like the way they close on Sunday so families can have time together.

It's great that you are getting a Hobby Lobby in your area. My husband and I frequent our nearest HL weekly and we both seem to always find what we am looking for. But don't be fooled when you receive a 40%-off coupon in a flyer or on-line. It is only for items that are at the original full price. Quilting fabrics and picture frames have been advertised as 30% and 50% off respectively for the six years that we have shopped there. So don't think that you are getting a deal. We get a kick out of walking up to the store each week and saying to each other " Wow, pictures frames are 50% off today, imagine that!"
|
You will love Hobby Lobby. My DH and I really like shopping there. It has something for everyone. It does pay to know your prices. I appreciate the competition it brought into our area for Craft Warehouse and JoAnn Fabrics. :-D

You can use your 40% off coupons for fabric that is marked down. They just use the non-sale price and take 40% off. I ususally do that if I have a 40% coupon with me as it will come out cheaper that way.
|
We just got one in Visalia Ca. so if your heading north or south on Hwy 99 just a little detour wouldn't be so bad, passed the DC on the way to an uncles home in OK a couple a years ago and antena went up, but never made it into a store. Have one close enough now to visit regular ( O Happy dance) lots a cool stuff.

Also, my DH and I have talked to some of their employees and find that they treat their employees well. They gave them a turkey and a bonus this past Christmas season. One employee we talked to said she hadn't experienced that in years from an employer. |

HL has every kind of thing for any hobby from scrapbooking to wood working. They also have a wonderful art dept. I could spend hours in there just looking. Their decor is wonderful and different too. They have some really good sales almost every week.
|
We have three Hobby Lobby stores within driving distance. The one at Hamilton Place Mall in Chattanooga is HUGE. If it's a craft item, they probably have it. I could (and have!) spend hours in there. It's probably a good thing I don't work there ... I'd buy so much that I'd end up having to pay THEM for the privelege!
The other two stores (Dalton & Hixson) are nice, but smaller. When they have the 40% off coupons, print several, and take an extra person or five (LOL!) when you go. Since it's one coupon per person, you'll have to each check out separately, but DH and I save extra money that way. ;) |

We have a couple of Hobby Lobbys close by and I go there a lot. They usually have cottons 30% off each week. I like their coupons. We get them in the newspaper or go online to print one. They have a good variety of all fabrics, patterns on sale occasionally, trim and remnants.
|
I hope your Hobby Lobby is similar to the win I go to in Wisconsic. I havent even been through the whole store yet. They have everything you can imagine as far as crafts and home decor that you can imagine.
|
We have Hobby Lobby here and it is awesome, you'll love it. Where in SW Fla? my family is in Ft. Myers. We would love to move to Venice Beach when we retire.
|
I love Hobby Lobby, as for their coupon, I wanted to purchase insulbrite, Hobby Lobby has it for 2.49 yd. and most store sel it for 4.99 and up. But I had the 40% off coupon, and as long as you buy one continous amount you get 40% off. So I bought 9 yds. and then i ordered 2 more bolts and was able to get 40% off. Boy what a deal.

Im so glad that a Hobby Lobby opened in my area this past year. It's a great store and I really like their fabric department. It's very neatly arranged and they group coordinating fabrics making it easier for the shopper to select fabrics that go well together. The quality is between JoAnns and LQS and I have found some really nice solids for backing there. Their pricing is also competitive with other stores.
|
Some good fabrics there and generally nice employees in THAT dept. Other depts, well, no so much.
Just be really careful on what you buy at HL. Their return policy is really strict. I purchased over 20 skeins of yarn for an afghan. Took me about 3 weeks to complete the afghan and I had 2 left-over skeins. they refused to take them back for a refund because I was "past the limit" and pointed to the return policy sign. No way anyone could complete this project sooner. Joann's and Michael's never ever gave me a problem returning yarn. So BEWARE! |

From personal experience not all Hobby Lobbys will do this. |

To add to my reply, I wonder if Wal Mart stores around Hobby Lobby are taking a second look at their decision to close down their fabric departments. It's also good competition for JoAnns who seem to have a monopoly in this area. Their pricing is competitive to say the least.

The way they cycle things on sale you can bet what ever you bought had been on sale during that time period. I can't remember if they make you get the refund on a gift card or not. Robin in TX |

I had one open here last fall and I went. Picked up an item that should have been 50% off so when I went to the cashier, I asked her to scan it and tell me before I decided to purchase it. If not 50% off, I didn't want it.
Their cash registers don't use scanning technology. She couldn't tell me if there was a discount of any kind until she (manually) keyed the code into the register and then would have to do a return. Because the store was new, it was crowded and she had to locate a store manager to go an check on the product. The line behind me continued to get longer and then the manager came back and said he wasn't sure so he would give it to me with the discount. Just know that they aren't as technically advanced as other places. I haven't been back since they don't carry much fabric, as others have said. I remember at the time they had a great price on Kona cotton, but then so do others on occasion. |
I bought fabric yesterday at Hobby Lobby, and felt like I bought a lot of fabric for not a lot of money. The fabric feels great and the colors are vibrant. I was very happy!

My friend Deb and I travel to Cleveland Tn. to a Hobby Lobby. They have decent batts usually on sale, and rayon acetate velvet too. I like Hot Potatoes, embossed velvet. They also have a good inexpensive yarn, Love this Yarn.

I signed up for their newsletter and automatically get the weekly flyer with the "discount" on whatever they offer that week. I love the 40% coupons; that's when I pick up notions which hardly ever go on sale. I also like that you can use one coupon per day so as long as the coupon hasn't expired you can go everyday...of course, that would be dangerous for me.
I was upset that our local HL stopped carrying embroidery thread and not very much in the Sulky line. |
we just got one in spokane wash it opened up in aug havent been there yet, sounds like i need to go soon

I have three Hobby Lobby stores near me, and the fabric selection varies widely between the three. The closest one has a very small fabric department, but the other two are twice it's size.
|
I am about 80 miles to the closest Hobby Lobby & it is probably a good thing. They have such beautiful things in that store to decorate your home plus crafts & fabric & a whole lot more. Great store!

We have a hobby lobby in orlando, not sure of the address.
