Jut finished piecing this baby quilt top. Notice the green border side....made with batik that I had to piece together to get it long enough. I did not give ANY thought to this not matching the shades of green when I pieced it. I just sewed two pieces together and went on my merry way. What do you think....is it awful? It sort of made me cringe. Not sure if I can make it any better if I take it apart, but can try if you think it is necessary. UGH! I was so pleased with all my quarter inch seams, and I was doing so well!
My sweet husband says the baby is not going to care and to leave it as is. But of course he loves me! 😍 |
Honestly, I would leave as is. Looks fine to me, and baby will *love* it!
I too would leave it...... I don't think you need it to match!
To me it blends very well. I like various shades of green together because you see them in nature all the time. I looked closely and nothing makes me cringe. I'd tell you if I thought otherwise. The quilt is darling!
In fact, the batiks look inspired by your background. Is that your own private stream? Beautiful!
I work with batiks a lot!! There are always variations in shades. Leave it as is. It is gorgeous
The quilt is wonderful just as it is! I would not change a thing. It is cute, interesting and has wonderful colors. You did a great job and it will be well loved!

I like how you bordered it. It is a very bright and cheery quilt.
If it REALLY bothers you -you could try flipping the ends around to see if you like that look better. Right now you have ends B and C next to each other. You could try A and D, A and C, or B and D. You can just sort of hold the fabric in those various combinations to see if any of them please you more. I did not particularly notice the seam line until you mentioned it. |
i think that once you get it quilted, it won't show that much. i'd leave it.
It's wonderful in every way!
I would run a quilting line right down the ditch and quilt all the other borders in a pretend piano key pattern also. Cute top!

Thanks to everyone who gave their opinion. I am going to leave it as is!
I would do something because as it is the two greens looked patched together and the other borders do not.
It looks fine but you might turn that border upside down of the way it is. That way the yellower portion would be nearer the yellow border and the darker would be nearer the blue and it would look more like the progression of color was intentional.
I think I would take the upper piece off and flip it around. It's got more yellow at the top, which looks closer to your bottom piece.
Stuff like this always bothers me too! ;) |
I think it's fine the way it is. Hubby is right, the baby won't notice.
As you just said Penster, I would leave it as it is. So many cute things to look at in this quilt and pretty colors. You will be the only one to notice, especially after it is quilted.

*** Nice quilt - Leave it alone. *** |
I think it is wonderful! I sometimes do something like this and then later say,"Hey, that is nice. What was I so critical about?" If it really bothers you, applique a stray butterfly or bird over the area and it will hardly even be noticeable.
Can I just say where ever you are standing showing the quilt is beautiful. |
It blends very well. Adorable quilt!
What a darling quilt. I say leave it like it is. It's so colorful & bright & happy.
love it and the baby will too.
leave it alone. looks great. You wont see it when you quit itl
I think it is so cute and baby will never know it didn't match. I think it looks great, don't say anything to anyone and no one will notice ..Beautiful quilt

I think it looks good as is. If it keeps bothering you, you could tone it done one of two ways when you quilt it by either (1) picking either a 28 or 40wt solid colored thread in that yellow-green hue behind the lion so you increase the amount of solid color in those sections, or (2) pick a 40 or 50wt red thread; since red & green are direct complements, the green will end up looking a bit greyish, thus toning it down (literally).
The other option would be to quilt it with a pale yellow thread so the yellow steals the attention & draws the viewer's eye to everywhere there is pale yellow in the quilt, rather than resting on the yellow-green batiks. But regardless, it's a children's quilt & people aren't going to be focusing on the batiks anyways -- they're going to be looking at all the adorable animals & reading the cutesy sayings. So you really could do pretty much whatever you want with it & people will love it. :) |
I would change it.
Ithink it is fine and when it is quited it should be hardly noticible. I say leave it. By the way - Great job!
I would not change it. It is a nice quilt!
Quilt and move on. No one will notice.
Since it is not a solid color but a blend of green and yellow, I'd leave it as is. It looks good.
I'm with the "leave it alone" bunch! It is perfect, cuter than cute, and will be cherished by baby and mom!
Leave it. It will be fine.
Cute quilt. I would leave, it looks great!
I really don't think it is that noticeable. If you didn't notice it in the beginning then it won't be noticed by anyone else. Very cute quilt and once it is quilted I think it will be fantastic.
I don't see a problem. It looks great. I agree with Nancy; once its quilted it will be fine.
go with your gut. If it were me and made me cringe, it would continue to make me cringe. That's me.
I like it the way it is, but if it makes you cringe it makes you cringe.
My recommendation would be to rotate all of the outside borders counter-clockwise one time. That way all of the borders would be perpendicular to the same fabric in the blocks. There's something about the yellow being on top that I don't like. The balance isn't right. I think the red on top might work better. I don't like the balance of the yellow and blue borders being opposite each other nor the balance of the yellow border next to the green border. What about swapping the blue with the yellow? Or swapping the yellow and the red? I also was wondering if you took apart the green border and swapped the ends. The longer piece looks like it might be lighter on the top. If so, you could try sewing that lighter end to the shorter piece. Good luck with it! Love the quilt and how colorful and cute it is! |
Another idea....take a picture of the quilt in black and white. See how the borders look balance-wise. Swap them around until you like the balance better and take another black & white picture to see if you like it better.
